Collection Steps

1) PREPARATIONHold the plastic tube with both hands while wearing gloves; twist the black handle counterclockwise to break the seal, then remove the swab from the tube.

3) STORAGEPlace the 4N6FLOQSwab inside the plastic storage tube. Avoid touching the inner sides of the tube with the swab. Seal the tube with a tampering control label and label the sample.

2) COLLECTIONWet samples: collect the sample by swabbing the area using the tip the 4N6FLOQSwabDry samples: place one drop of sterile water (or phosphate buffer solution) on the side of the swab tip. Then swab the area by rotating the swab so that the entire surface of the swab is used. Reswab the area with a dry sterile swab.

Tips for Improving DNA Sample Collection

SWABBING THE AREA • Excessive rolling may result in sample loss. • Avoid touching any other surface after the sample has been collected.• Maximize swab coverage: one swab for every 15 square centimeters of surface area

IRREGULAR GRAINY SURFACE• Swab with the grain • Swab back and forth, rotating the swab surface to ensure that the sample area is not reused
