Greetings,

The Community Development (CD) program of PT Kitadin Embalut (KTD EMB) from the last couple of years have gained positive response from various parties such as the government and the company’s fostered community groups. This does not just happened, the full support of the CDO team, community and also the role of the Community Consultative Committee (CCC) become important part of program. There are 4 pillars that has become the CD priority program they are community, economic, education, public health, and infrastructure developments. The efforts should be able to communicate clearly to the community about the company’s long term objectives. It surely needs hard work in achieving the objectives, knowing that KTD EMB mining operates so near the multi ethnic residential that also has different educational levels. But KTD EMB has developed and continued to improvise their leading program such as Integrated Agriculture, Fisheries, Cattle, and Oyster Mushroom. Many parties such as the government, college students from Indonesia and around the world, companies, students, farmers, and researchers have come to do a study comparison and analysis of the place. Everything that has been done by KTD EMB nowadays is based on the efforts to embody Banpu Spirit values, Vision and Mission of the company’s CSR. The KTD EMB CD programs are expected to increase knowledge, good work ethic, and also improving sustainable economic outcome for the community surrounds the mining area. The CD activities on each site were published in a magazine and distributed to the community. We hope through this Bubuhan magazine every party would be able to gain information about the development of the programs and gain many benefits from the activities that have been done on each of PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk. subsidiaries sites.

The IMM commitment in preserving the coastal environment should set an example towards the others. For the last 4 years, the mining company that operated in 3 areas (Bontang, East Kukar and Kukar) had already started participating in the tree plantation. “We have begun planting trees since 2009, and now the trees have come up to 197.000 trees,” said the IMM External Relations,

Vice President Assistant, H.M. Nasution, after the mangrove plantation in Pagung Bontang Lestari by Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan, last Friday (13/4). By that, the community would also be empowered,” he said. In 2012, IMM will plant 40.000 mangroves in Bontang Lestari Village. Mangrove will be planted on a 40 ha involving the community’s participation from seeding, planting to post-planting care process.

Free medication is a routine activity implemented for the fostered villages surround the mining area. The previous event on April 24th 2012 implemented in the Separi Village

one of the fostered village of PT Kitadin Embalut. The activity was attended by 184 people, from children, adult to elderly, women and men. Most of the people complained about their high blood pressure or hypertension, these kinds of diseases commonly affects many adult patients, and intestinal worms and flu to children. The community positively welcomed this activity remembering how hard it is to access healthcare, because there is only 1 sub health facility and 1 midwife as for the access to the nearest hospital is very far. The community expected that this kind of activity would continue to be conducted in the area not only by giving free medical care but also giving supplementary food for children and health education also providing knowledge about women’s health given the lack information received by the community.

Health for All

WATER REFILLIn Damai Seberang Village

Started in 2008 and 2009, Pokja Damai Seberang Village together with the community proposed a clean water with gravitation system located about 2 km from the

Village, a small hill named Tolakng Solo became the source of clean water for Damai Seberang Village. And in the 2011 Pokja meeting program, the community proposed 3 priority programs:Economy:1. Cage and Seed Fish Procurement2. Rubber Seed ProcurementHealth:Water Refill Procurement. Having this water refill procurement was the main priority of

the program because it would bring great help for the community located in Damai Seberang Village to have clean water by using gravity system of clean water through the Community Development program in 2008 and 2009. An idea rises from the community regarding the clean water program; it just feels incomplete to have clean water if it could not be used as a sterile drinking water. And so that is how the water refill program was proposed and the community feels that it has been very helpful especially during special occasions. For water, normally the community has to cross the river and went to the Kampung Damai City, especially in events such as funerals, weddings, traditional events and others, but not anymore. This program has managed to help the local community that has 92 households and 330 people living there. Now more than half of the residents depend their clean water on the water refill and their burden become lighter. To help the operational cost of electricity and ultraviolet, the water refill is charged 3000 IDR per gallon. Before the water refill exists, the community has to buy clean water from the neighbor village with the price 6000 IDR this includes crossing the water using ces / ketinting. The community finds the water refill existence very useful to them, it can help reduce their burden and it is safe to drink without any special treatment (Such as water medication or drug/ Alum).

Fostered News Opinion

Can you tell us about yourself? I was a traveler and then stayed in Asam-Asam Village in 2004. I was born in Kebumen, Middle Java, 55 years ago, June 9th 1957 to be exact. I am a farmer and a breeder.

What do you think about the Comdev program especially in agriculture and animal husbandry? Thank God, there are many benefits we can take since the existence of JBG’s ComDev program, and the community also feels very thankful, as if we have received help. Especially in economy. Our economical stage has begun to increase and everyone received its benefit. We will continue to fight in increasing the economy through the ComDev Program, because we have felt its benefit for the last 2 years for the goat husbandry.

Even though we still face many obstacles, but we consider it as the beginning of success.

Can you tell us about the situation before the peanut planting and goat husbandry program exist? Not many of us planted peanut before and goat farming. Maybe it was because the lack of information about it, everytime we try to plant peanut, the result did not go very well. But with this program, the community started to feel the results. Because the program does not only give seed and asks the people to manage it but it started with training. So the community understands how to maintain, noticed any obstacles that they will be facing and how to handle it. The people manage to do it well with satisfying result.

What are the obstacles that you feel now? The obstacle would be, for peanut there are whie spots on the leafs, borek and when it starts to grow the challenges add on with pig and rat pest. Besides pests’ problem, we have other obstacle which is no workman. Implementing manual development is very hard for us to do. For that, we really hope in the future we will receive help such as heavy equipments for the cultivation.

What do you think about Comdev JBG? Thank The Lord, right now we are greatly helped by the existence of ComDev programs, because we have received great knowledge in agriculture and animal husbandry and we also have started to feel the result.

What about the community’s response about ComDev? So far so good, they feel much helped.

Any input for Comdev or what you expected in the future? We really hope that ComDev in the future would give help to us such as heavy equipment to develop the land. And as the people’s representative I hope that the help would be increased, because there are still many of us that need help like this to gain our knowledge and experience for the future.
