Order by patent number for Pergamon Orbit InfoLine only. 4966920 SMOKE AND TOXIC GAS SUPPRESSANT COMPOSITION James Gainer, Robert Bentley, Worsley, United Kingdom assigned to Ciba-Geigy Corporation The present invention provides a composition comprising a combustible material containing urethane linkages; and as a smoke and toxic gas suppressant, a polyester which has an acid value below 30 mg KOH/g, preferably below 10 mg KOH/g, and which is derived from: Ia.(A) a component which contains 4 carboxyl groups or anhydride thereof, and which is preferably an aromatic component, or Ib. a mixture of (A) and (B): (B) one or more components which contain 2 to 12, preferably 2 to 4, carboxyl groups or 1 to 6, preferably 1 or 2, carboxylic anhydride groups, selected from: (B1) an aliphatic carbox- ylic acid compnent containing 2-16 carbon atoms; ((B2) a cyclic non-aromatic carboxylic acid containing 7-17 carbon atoms; and (B3) an aromatic carboxylic acid containing 8-16 carbon atoms; and II.(C) at least one aliphatic, cyclo- aliphatic or aromatic polyhydroxyl component containing 2 to 8 hydroxyl groups, and the amount of polyester is from to 50 100% based on the weight of polyol used to make the com- bustible material. 4968488 INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR POLLUTION ABATEMENT AND ENERGY DERIVATION FROM STEAM Jerome S Spevack An integrated system for the derivation of useful energy from impure steam and/or use in connec- tion therewith, said steam containing both hydrogen sulfide and an alkaline acting compo- nent, such as ammonia, while producing liquid- phase and gaseous-phase effluents from condensation of the impure steam and substan- tially reducing the emission of sulfur-containing compounds to the environment. Treatment of such effluents to selectively react or bind alkaline acting components in the liquid-phase results in an augmented concentration of hydrogen sulfide in the gaseous-phase and its depletion in the liquid-phase.
