This complete two-day course provides a robust prepara-tory curriculum for the high level pharmacy professional planning to take the examination, or those seeking recerti-fication or a refresh in therapeutics. Designed based on the domains, tasks, and knowledge statements developed by BPS for the examination, the course will help you prepare for the exam by identifying areas needed for in-depth review of pharmacotherapy issues by:

n Reviewing pertinent clinical topics and practice skills

n Providing exam practice questions

n Listing valuable resources for further self-study

The AShP difference: why we are the best choice for BPS prep and recertificationDeveloped by the leading continuing education provider in the country, and the leading preparatory content experts and faculty, this course is different than your average review course. Our complex case-based, interactive approach goes against the didactic learning norm, and engages the attendee in a way that is sure to have a meaningful and last-ing impact on their practice.

Review course participants follow “patients” in real life scenarios from initial presentation, medical history, risk factors, and complications throughout their treatments and outcomes. Participants learn as they apply various treatment options based on national standards and guide-lines. Strong emphasis is placed on the thought processes needed to solve patient care problems in each therapeutic area. As patient cases are discussed, faculty members are there to present the best answer to questions that illustrate key concepts.

Prepare for the BPS Pharmacotherapy Specialty Certifica-tion Examination with this cutting-edge educational program! Highlights of the ASHP review course include:

n Interesting, application-based review course approach using complex, case-based interactive learning for high level practitioners and specialists

n Includes regulatory and population health issues not covered in other review courses, which accounts for 20% of the BPS exam

n Every topic area contains public health and patient advocacy information

n Participants are given a workbook containing 100+ practice questions with explained answers and links to original references

n Complete coverage needed to confidently prepare for the exam in only 2 days! Saving you time away from work and home, and drastically reducing travel expenses

keynote AddressGEN. ColiN l. PowEll, uSA (rEt.) U.S. Secretary of state (2001–2005)

One of the most admired and respected leaders in America today, General Colin Powell offers his thoughts on domestic and world affairs, leadership and a vision for tomorrow.

A man of supreme intel-ligence, versatility and presence, General Colin Powell served as the first African-American chair-man of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was appointed secretary of state by Presi-dent George W. Bush—becoming, at that time, the most powerful African-American ever to hold office. A four-star general, Powell’s numerous awards include two Presidential Medals of Freedom, and he is the author of his best-selling autobiography, My Ameri-can Journey. His second book, an instant New York Times best seller titled It Worked For Me (May 2012), reveals the lessons that shaped his life and career. As someone who crafted and articulated the U.S. position on the world stage, Powell provides insight on efforts to stabilize a troubled world and the diplomatic and leadership skills needed to transform unstable regions into areas where societies and cultures flourish.

More information and Learning objectives are available at www.ashp.org/Midyear2013.

This includes those practicing in large and small hospitals, managed care facilities, inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, and homecare settings, as well as in aca-demia and the pharmaceutical industry. Knowledge-based sessions are designed primarily for acquiring factual knowledge; application-based sessions, primarily to apply the information learned in the time allotted.

Fundamental Strategies to Secure a residency: Getting a Head Start as P1-P3

In the tough competition for post graduate positions, how can you stand out? After this presentation you will have fundamental tips, a timeline, and answers to some of the questions you may have, including: When do I start planning my residency search strategy? How can I set up a plan and task list to keep myself on target for success as early as a P1 student? How can I excel in the interview process? You will receive candid advice, and guid-ance that will be directly applicable to your hunt for a post gradu-ate residency or fellowship. You will be able to follow an outline of what you will need to do as a student during the P1 to P3 years in order to successfully prepare yourself for the residency or fellowship application process. There is no ultimate guarantee of securing a post graduate training program. However, session presenter Joshua Caballero, Pharm.D., BCPP, Associate Profes-sor at Nova Southeastern University is one of the faculty that put together a course that helped their students achieve an 83% residency acceptance rate, compared to the national average of 60% in the most recent match, making this one of the most suc-cessful residency preparation programs in the nation!
