The course addresses developments in research, clinical trials, techniques, and treatments, providing GI clinicians the opportunity to stay abreast of the information and interpret its impact on clinical practices, thus improving the quality of patient care. Target Audience This course is designed for practicing physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in gastroenterology, internal medicine, family practice, and gastrointestinal surgery. Learning Objectives After completing this educational activity, the participant will be able to do the following: • Review the most current evidence on liver diseases including management of portal vein thrombosis and emerging therapies for biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis; • Discuss nutritional concerns and other areas of care in pregnant patients with GI tract disorders with a focus on liver disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); • Describe the most up to date medical approaches to obesity and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH); • Compare pros and cons of endoscopy uses for treating upper GI bleeding, evaluating pancreatic cysts, and managing difficult cases of polypectomy; • Describe optimal practices for using endoscopic therapy for IBD and minimizing toxicity from IBD therapy; • Summarize recent evidence on eosinophilic esophagitis, achalasia therapy, and treatments of Barrett’s esophagus; • Describe an evidence-based approach to the early diagnosis and treatment of neoplasia, including polyposis syndromes and hepatocellular cancer. Course Overview
