48-R-26 1 2 A Resolution to Support a Columbus Campus Safety Town Hall 3 4 Varsha Challapally (for herself, Braden Poe, Caroline Gonzalez, and Mikayla Bodey) introduced 5 the following resolution to the Steering Committee where it passed. 6 7 * * * 8 9 Whereas the Undergraduate Student Government represents all undergraduate students at The 10 Ohio State University, and 11 12 Whereas student safety is a primary concern at The Ohio State University, and 13 14 Whereas The Ohio State University has experienced many safety concerns in the 2015 Autumn 15 Semester, including numerous robberies, 1 as well as campus wide threats, 2 and 16 17 Whereas the Undergraduate Student Government cares about and actively strives to better the 18 safety of students through investing in resources such as a Lifeline Response App, 3 as well as 19 off-campus student safety packs, 4 and, 20 21 Whereas former Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee conducted an Off-Campus 22 Safety Town Hall in March 2012, 5 and 23 24 Whereas many Big Ten universities such as Rutgers University, 6 the University of Minnesota, 7 25 and the University of Maryland 8 regularly hold town halls designed to address student safety, 26 and 27 28 Whereas holding a Campus Safety Town Hall will allow students, Ohio State administrators, 29 and members of the Columbus community to address safety concerns in an organized and 30 productive setting; 31 32 Therefore Let it Be Resolved that the Undergraduate Student Government supports the 33 implementation of a Columbus Campus Safety Town Hall, and 34 35 Let it Further Be Resolved that the Undergraduate Student Government shows support in 36 inviting President Michael V. Columbus City Council including Hon. Jaiza N. Page, Hon. Michael Stinziano, and Hon. 39Elizabeth Brown, Hon. Priscilla Tyson, and Hon. Shannon Hardin, as well as the newly-elected 40Mayor of Columbus, Hon. Andrew Ginther, to be guests at the event, and 41 42Let it Further Be Resolved that USG work in conjunction with major campus organizations and 43the Office of Student Life to initiate, plan, and promote the event, and 44 45Let it Further Be Resolved that the Undergraduate Student Government acknowledges the 46work of Deputy Director of Health & Safety, Sunder Sai, in researching and drafting this 47Town Hall resolution. 48
