ARE YOU A GOOD NEIGHBOR?
It has come to our attention that several people
in our community would love to come to Mass on the weekend, but they either can’t drive or don’t have transportation.
Is there someone in your neighborhood who could use a ride to Mass? Perhaps you can give them a ride when you come to Mass. You may even be passing right by their house on your way to Church.
Look around! Get to know your fellow Catholics who live by you, and perhaps you can do a good deed by bringing them to Mass with you. Be a good neighbor, and we’re sure God will Bless You abundantly!

Breaking Open The Word
December 25, 2016
The Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)
First Reading: Isaiah 52:7-10 Isaiah rejoices that God is bringing his exiled people home to Jerusalem. He calls out to the people to be glad because God will restore Jerusalem. Second Reading: Hebrews 1:1-6 Paul explains to the Hebrews that although God had spoken through the prophets, people could not always completely understand the message. Now God has spoken to us by sending Jesus, the Son, a reflection of God’s glory and forgiver of our sins. Gospel: John 1:1-18 John describes how the Word came into the world in the form of Jesus. All those who accept Jesus become children of God by sharing in Jesus’ love. No one has seen God, but through Jesus, God was revealed to us. Consider/Reflect: Christmas celebrates the light of God’s Word-made-flesh. Light comes in many forms. Some light is direct. Others are a mere reflection of another source. The glow of a candle, lights on a highway, motion detectors, and lamps in our homes lessen darkness, offer comfort, provide guidance, calm fears and help us see. Lights in church tell us God is here. Jesus, the Word, is the light that no darkness can overcome; but at times it seems as though darkness is overcoming the light. While these words on this page were being written, a series of terrorist attacks changed the lives of many and more senseless shootings took place in our cities. News reports often pay more attention to darkness than the lights of people who hold a dying stranger, welcome others into their homes and protest the violence. These sisters and brothers testify to the power of light, like John the Baptist .They help us see glimpses of God-with-us. Their actions announce glad tidings and bear the good news that the light of Christ is stronger. Let us celebrate Christmas as people of hope who give praise and thanks for Jesus Christ. Restore peace by offering comfort and hope in actions that make God’s glory known. Let the light of our lives match the lights that decorate our trees and to lessen darkness, offer comfort, give guidance, calm fears, and help all see that God is here. That’s how all the ends of the earth can see the saving power of God, even where darkness seems stronger on any given day. When have you experienced the Light of Christ as stronger than darkness in your life?

HEALTH “TIP” OF THE MONTH
Learn the Facts: Be An Organ Donor!
Anyone can be a potential donor regardless of age, race or medical history.
All major religions in the U.S. support organ, eye and tissue donation.
If you are admitted to a hospital, the primary priority is to save your life.
An open casket funeral is possible for organ donors.
There is no cost to the donor or family for organ/ tissue donation.
There are 3527 patients waiting for transplants in NJ.
Due to the shortage of donors, 21 people die each day waiting for an organ.
One donor can save 8 lives and change the lives of 50 people.
Your decision to be an organ donor can make a difference in many lives.
Identifying yourself as an organ/tissue donor is simple: Declare your intentions on your driver’s license. Contact NJ Sharing Network at 1-800-SHARE-NJ. Inform your family about your wishes to be a donor.

HEARING LOOP SYSTEM
For those of us living with hearing loss, it is often difficult to understand the words spoken during Mass due to the challenging acoustical listening environment. In an effort to improve clarity and understanding, we have received a donation and installed an induction loop listening system. To benefit from this system, you will need to select a seat in the 2 sections of pews (when facing the Altar), to the left of the Baptismal Font and switch your hearing aid, cochlear implant or other listening device to the “T-Coil” or “telephone” position.
ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY The Altar Rosary Society will attend Mass on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 9:00 AM. All members are
asked to attend. MEETING: We will have our next meeting on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 1:30 PM
