Each week in Power Sweep, we cover the front page with our News and Notes Section. We recap last week’s misleading final scores and provide hard to find information on the previous week’s games. We are writing this issue earlier than usual so, in place of News and Notes, we will provide you with some updated information on our 2007 College Football Scorebook. As many of you are aware Northcoast Sports does not release a Late Phone Play on every single game being played. In fact, on any given Saturday with 40-50 games to choose from, usually there are between 5-7 ! rated Late Phone Selections released. Isolated games such as the games now being played on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday Nights are generally released, not as a Late Phone Selection, but as a Marquee Play on Northcoast's Private Play Hotline (for just $15 each play). The Private Play Hotline Marquee Plays are updated on game day and are available at 1-900-438-9467 for $15 or online at www.ncsports.com at the NCstore for $9. These plays are also available on your Northcoast Debit Card and all Private Play Hotline Plays, except the Marquee Plays, are two for the price of one. In 2004 the Marquee Plays were on fi re, fi nishing #3 in the country with a 63-33 66% combined record! Our NFL Marquee releases fi nished #3 in the country going 24-14 63% and #6 in the country in College going 39-19 67%!!!! We offer a Season Pass for the Marquee releases for those of you who enjoy getting these plays and also enjoy the discount the package offers. Sanford is 2-9-1 ATS on the road and has been upset both times in the AF role. In the Aggies’ 31-24 win at home in ‘05 UNLV had 26-17 FD and 387-283 yd edges. UNLV’s biggest edges are on offense (#61 vs #114) and ST’s (#36 vs #84). The Rebels’ Rocky Hinds should be one of the most improved QB’s in the country this year. OREGON ST 30 Utah 23 - Thursday - Oregon St fi nished last year ranked #21 in the polls and has 16 returning starters. They had one of the best home edges in the country but since they expanded Reser Stadium to 46,000 seats they have had fewer sellouts. This national TV game should be sold out though so the crowd should be at its best. Utah last visited here in 1991. Since OSU turned into a winning team (7 yrs) they have only faced two IA foes in their home opener and are 0-2 ATS. Utah is one of the few teams that have won four straight bowl games but LY opened their season at a Pac-10 foe (+3 vs UCLA) and were clobbered 31-10. The Utes have 9 starters back on offense and have the edge there (#18 vs #36) and both have excellent ST’s (#5 vs #8) edge for OSU.

Navy 35 TEMPLE 21 - Friday - Temple has an unusual home edge as their small home crowds in a large stadium tend to lull opponents to sleep. They won’t have that here as this game could be a sellout at Lincoln Financial Field (68,532) with Navy fans dominating the crowd. Navy also faces Army every year at this stadium so they have familiarity. LY Navy ran for 420 yards vs the Owls’ D in a 42-6 win but that was late in the year. Navy avg’s 40+ ppg at the end of the year with its option in full sync and teams having just one week to prepare. They have avg just 25 ppg in openers with teams having all of August to prepare for them. Temple played a lot of youngsters in Golden’s fi rst season and should be much stronger. Temple was 3-1 ATS as a HD LY with an upset of BG and a cover vs MAC Champ C Mich. With the new KO rules a player like Temple’s Travis Shelton could have a bigger impact on the game. Washington 24 SYRACUSE 23 - Friday - First meeting S/’77. Syracuse is 8-16 in home open-ers but 28-8 ATS vs non-conf foes including 6-0 at home and UW is 0-3-1 ATS on the road vs non-conf. UW has a freshman QB making his fi rst start across the country and in a dome. The Huskies are the stronger team but SU has the situational edge and the ST edge (#73-#115). UW is a poor 0-4 ATS as an AF and has not been one in 4 years so you can’t lay too many points.-Saturday Games-WEST VIRGINIA 37 W Michigan 20 - Coach Cubit took his WM team into Florida St LY and if not for a couple of late calls that went against them they could have won! WV has QB White and RB Slaton both healthy and in their last 6 home openers vs non-BCS teams they are 4-0 ATS with their avg win by 29.2 ppg (two IAA opp). These teams last met in 1996. WM has 8 starters back on each side of the ball and may be the most talented of the MAC teams. While they did not take on a rush attack like WV’s LY they still only allowed 76 ypg rush (2.6). WM has won 4 in a row ATS as a 7+ pt non-conf AD including their upset of Virginia LY. WV is just 6-12-1 as a HF. The defenses are even but WV has our #4 rated offense and ST’s and WM is #53 & #60 in those categories. VIRGINIA TECH 27 East Carolina 6 - EC is 10-2 ATS on the road and 7-2 vs the ACC. VT is 7-2 ATS in home openers and while they should have a pumped up crowd (ESPN Gameday) in their fi rst game since the tragedy on campus they do have a huge game vs LSU on deck. VT is 16-8 ATS as a HF and won the last 5 vs EC by an avg of 20 ppg (last met 2000). EC did upset both S Miss and NCSt on the road LY and almost upset W Virg in 2005 in Morgantown. Skip Holtz is an amazing 9-1 ATS as an AD. The situation and that solid AD angle could have us leaning with EC but they have a 1st time starting QB making his fi rst road start vs a team with the #3 defense in the country and the NCAA’s best home fi eld edge. MIAMI (FLA) 34 Marshall 13 - The Randy Shannon era begins for Miami and he has been the DC here the last 6 years with his D allowing just 256 ypg LY. That is not what you would expect from a 6-6 team. While he will want to get a solid win in his home opener, they do have a big game at Oklahoma next week. Marshall is 2-5 ATS in road openers and have in-state rival West Virginia on deck. MU is also 2-13 ATS on the road. Marshall allowed 29.3 ppg LY but have 6 starters back on defense. Marshall’s D-line avg just 252 lbs and lost preseason CUSA Def POY DE McClellan (11.5 sk LY) to a knee injury in Aug. Miami’s O-line avg 310 lbs and with a thin LB corps the Thundering Herd may wear down in the 2H opening holes for Miami’s bevy of VHT RB’s to run through. Miami is just 11-20 as a HF but there is a new sheriff in town for a program that needs to regain its swagger. UM’s most experienced returning LB, Glenn Cook, will miss this game with injury. Connecticut 33 DUKE 24 - The Blue Devils are 3-8 SU & 1-7 ATS in home openers. Duke has lost 20 games in a row SU and is 7-17 ATS vs non-conf. In the last meeting in 2004 Duke led 20-6 late 3Q (on the road) but lost 22-20 after missing a game winning 34 yd FG. The Blue Devils have all 11 starters back on offense and lose just 4 lettermen. UC has 25 lettermen lost and while breaking in a new QB, this is hardly an intimidating setting. Duke is just 2-10 ATS as a HD but Roof has recorded upsets of Clemson & GTech and LY nearly upset a suspension ravaged Miami (Fl). This is the most returning starters that Roof has had and is a huge game to give them hope for the season. Edsall is 7-2 ATS as an AF at UC. Duke has a slight offensive edge but UC has a large edge on defense (#65 vs #117).Virginia 17 WYOMING 16 - Wyoming has the added edge of practicing in the high altitude all August and opening at home while playing a team from the low lying East Coast. LY Wyoming was robbed as they traveled to Virginia and dominated with a 17-11 FD edge (see Past History) but lost on a missed xp in OT. The Cowboys have an excellent QB in Karsten Sween (PS#28) but must replace their entire D-line which is their biggest question mark. Laramie is a tough place to get to and WY is 11-5 ATS at home and upset their last BCS foe here (Ole Miss in 2004). The Cavs are one of the most improved teams in the NCAA and have our #12 rated defense with 10 starters back from LY’s unit which allowed just 17.8 ppg. Virginia is only 10-23 SU away under Groh and 8-20 ATS. Virginia has its biggest edges at the line of scrimmage with our #20 O-line and #10 D-line while WY has just 2 of 8 starters returning up front. Both teams should be in bowls and we’ll side with the dog.

KEY SELECTIONS4! MICHIGAN ST over Uab - 1st meeting. UAB is 12-5 ATS in Sept AG’s but does have a new HC, is learning new schemes and has just 8 starters back and 35 lettermen lost. Mich St also has a new head man in Dantonio but he is a proven HC and his discipline should be the perfect elixir for a team that has previously underperformed. While Dantonio will want to change a lot of things about MSU one thing he will not want to mess with is their fast starts as they have avg 44 ppg in their fi rst 4 gms the last 2 yrs. They do have to break in a new QB but Hoyer started LY’s fi nale (schl rec 61 passes vs Penn St) and the takes on our #115 defense. UAB has suffered a lot of attrition this offseason and has less than 50% of their lettermen returning. New coaches need early season success for the players to buy into their programs and this is a nice setup for Dantonio to get a feel good blowout win. FORECAST: MICHIGAN ST 38 Uab 10 3! STANFORD (+) over Ucla - The home team is 8-1 SU and 6-1-2 ATS. LY UCLA rolled to a 31-0 shutout win at home but they are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 trips to Palo Alto with 3 outright upset losses. UCLA is the most experienced bowl team from ‘06 with 20 returning starters and while the Cards have 16 ret starters they have their 3rd HC in 4 years and are learning new schemes. Harbaugh had great success at San Diego but only started out 2-4. Dorrell is 0-6 ATS as an AF of 3 or more vs BCS schools with 3 outright upset losses and 2 SU wins in OT. In UCLA’s last trip here they were #8 in the country and trailed 24-3 mid 4Q but escaped with an OT win. Harbaugh will have his team believing they can win. After going 0-5 ATS in their downsized home stadium LY SU should have an excited crowd. For the fi rst time they will benefi t from not playing in a half fi lled 80,000 seat stadium and could play in front of a packed house. Stanford does have a lot of VHT’s on the roster with a brand new attitude and an outright upset would not surprise us. FORECAST: STANFORD (+) 17 Ucla 24 3! OREGON over Houston - UO is 10-1 SU but only 5-6 ATS at home vs non-conf. In their last meeting in 2005 the Cougars looked to be on their way to a blowout win with 3 TD’s on their fi rst 4 poss including 70 & 62 yd passes but UO rallied and had 30-19 FD and 554-412 yd edges in a 38-14 win at Houston. UH has a young QB making his fi rst road start in rowdy Autzen Stadium BUT UO does have a huge game at Michigan on deck. UO is 6-1 ATS as a DD HF since their upset loss to Indiana. UH is 1-4 ATS if their road opener is vs a BCS school with the avg loss by 31.2 ppg. They are the defending CUSA Champ which will have the Ducks attention after UO was just 7-6 last year but UH does not have 4 year starting QB Kolb anymore. UO lost 4 straight to end last season including their embarrassing bowl loss to BYU (38-8) and needs to get the bad taste out of their mouths and regain their old swagger. FORECAST: OREGON 38 Houston 13

OTHER SELECTIONS2! Kent St (+) over IOWA ST - Thursday - Last year Iowa St had a stronger team with 10 starters back on offense but struggled to get past Toledo at home needing 3 OT’s to beat the MAC school which fi nished with a losing record. Last year Kent St was the star of our Comp Line (1-347-677-1700) as they were often the Comp Line Underdog Play of the Week winning almost every time. The Cyclones have won their L/8 Ames openers by the avg score of 33-12. The Golden Flashes are 1-10 SU & 3-8 ATS in road openers. The offenses are close as both have veteran QB’s with Edelman and Meyer close in terms of talent. The Flashes have a large edge on defense with 8 starters back from a unit that allowed just 298 ypg and Iowa St has 7 back from one that allowed 393 ypg. Kent went on the road LY and beat both Miami, Oh and BG and with Iowa St breaking in a new coaching staff and learning new schemes the Flashes bag a win in Big XII country. FORECAST: Kent St (+) 20 IOWA ST 16 2! Bowling Green (+) over MINNESOTA - The Falcons are 11-6 ATS in road openers and upset #16 Purdue in ‘03. They have 15 starters back and should be one of the most improved teams in the country. They are 7-5 ATS as an AD and have a veteran QB. Minny is in their 1st game under HC Brewster who has never even been a coordinator. They do have 14 starters back including 8 on defense and have won their past 12 home openers by an avg of 44-13. These teams last met in ‘96. BG rates a slight edge on offense as Minny is changing from Mason’s dominating rush schemes to a spread and have an untested QB. Minny does rate the edge on D and has a large edge on ST’s (#33 vs #119). An outright upset for the MAC would not surprise us here. FORECAST: Bowling Green (+) 21 MINNESOTA 24 2! ULM (+) over Tulsa - Thursday - ULM is 4-33 SU vs non-conf while Tulsa is 10-18-2 ATS vs non-conf. ULM fi gures to have a good crowd for this espn2 matchup. Tulsa has lost 12 straight road openers including a 21-19 loss at SBC member Ark St in ‘02. ULM also won their last meeting in 1999, 37-34 at Tulsa. As Rice’s HC last year, Todd Graham was only a favorite once and lost that game by 14. Tulsa has just 10 returning starters, and is learning new schemes on offense. ULM has 17 returning starters and is one of the most improved teams in the NCAA. FORECAST: ULM (+) 24 Tulsa 23

OTHER GAMESMiami, Oh 25 BALL ST 24 - Thursday - The visitor is 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS since 1995 in the series. Ball St is 13-6 ATS hosting MAC teams. Miami is 10-5-1 ATS in away openers and 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in MAC road openers avg 35 ppg. In LY’s 3 pt home loss Miami was int’d at the Ball St 11 with :28 left. Both teams have 14 returning starters and Ball St fi nished 5-7 while Miami was 2-10. Ball St is 10-4 ATS at home. Two improved teams makes this one look like a toss-up so take the points. RUTGERS 34 Buffalo 6 - Thursday - Buffalo is 3-2 ATS in its fi rst game on the road with two at Rutgers including a 34-11 upset win in 2002 (+7) and only losing 24-10 in ‘03 (+12). Rutgers has a big game vs Navy on deck but should have an excited crowd as they enter the year with BCS expectations after LY’s 11-2 mark. The Knights are 5-2 ATS as a HF and LY outscored foes at home by a 34-10 avg allowing just 188 ypg. In their last meeting (‘05) Buffalo had a 21-13 FD edge but lost 17-3 at home (+21) as they were SOD 3 times deep in RU territory. The history of the series should have Rutgers focused even as a large favorite. Buffalo does have 18 returning starters with RU only having 13, but Ray Rice gets to take on a D that allowed 4.8 & 4.7 ypc rush the last 2 yrs. Lsu 34 MISS ST 13 - Thursday - LSU has won the last 6 by an avg of 42-7. MSU gained 153 of their 226 total yds after halftime LY vs LSU’s 2nd & 3rd string defense. The Bulldogs have lost their last 7 SEC openers SU & ATS. MSU is 1-14 SU & 2-13 ATS in this series. An LSU win is almost an automatic, no matter how much you think Miss St has improved but they got a rare cover LY losing by 31 as a 33’ pt dog. LSU scored TD’s on its fi rst 5 poss in that game and a weather delay of about an hour took away their enthusiasm in the 2H. LSU is 9-2-1 ATS as an AF and Miss St is just 6-15 ATS as a HD. LSU does have a huge game vs VTech on deck. Unlv 26 UTAH ST 20 - Thursday - UNLV has dropped 15 straight road games (avg loss 23 ppg). The Aggies are 3-0 SU & 1-1 ATS & have outscored the Rebels 104-45 in the L3 gms (‘95, ‘04 & ‘05). Utah St has won 9 of the last 10 meetings but has lost 9 straight season openers and LY at Wyoming was outFD’d 31-5. The Aggies have 19 returning starters to UNLV’s 14. Rebs HC

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES CONT FROM PAGE 3Saturday, September 1stNEBRASKA 35 Nevada 10 - Nevada is 5-14 ATS in road games and play in Big XII country for the 1st time since 1950. Last year they lost to Ariz St 52-21 on the road (only BCS AG under Ault). Nevada has been to a bowl 2 straight yrs so the Huskers will be focused and had all of August to break down their unique Pistol offense. Since being upset by SMiss at home, Callahan has won his last 6 non-conf HG’s by 31.8 ppg. The Wolf Pack have a young QB go-ing up vs our #21 rated defense. The Huskers also have an edge on ST’s (#30 vs #72). Neb avg 488 ypg at home in ‘06. With defending ACC Champ Wake Forest and USC on deck the Huskers need to get the kinks worked out. MEMPHIS (+) 34 Mississippi 27 - Ole Miss will have a decent following on hand as the rivals are just 60 miles apart. The Tigers are 14-7 ATS as a HD. After beating Ole Miss by 10 & 7 Memphis has dropped the last two by 4 & 3. We think Memphis will be the most improved team in the NCAA TY and QB Hankins now has had a year of experience. Ole Miss does have a good sized ST edge (#7 vs #96). Ole Miss may have more athletic talent in this but Memphis should be full of confi dence and when they lost at home to Ole Miss in ‘05 they had lost their starting QB on the 3rd play of game and should have no such misfortune here. The Tigers get their big turnaround season off to a good start with a win. Iowa 31 N Illinois 17 - This is technically an NI HG but it is in Chicago’s Soldier Field and Iowa fans will have the crowd edge. NI is 17-9 ATS vs non-conf and 9-2 ATS as DD dogs with 2 outright upsets. Hawks QB Christensen made his starting debut in LY’s 24-14 win over NI throwing for 256 yds. Iowa had 14-1 FD and 271-43 yd edges at the half but led just 17-0 with 2 missed FG’s and 2 TO’s. NI is w/o RB Wolfe TY but the power ratings only give moderate edges on both offense and defense vs what should be a much improved Iowa team. WISCONSIN 31 Wash St 17 - Last met ‘76. The Cougars had a similar opener LY at #4 Auburn and lost that 40-14 (+14). Wisky is 11-5-1 ATS at home and 7-1-1 ATS vs Pac 10. While the Badgers were 4-2 ATS at home LY they outgained foes by a 389-204 avg although just 1 of the 6 IA teams fi nished with a winning record. Wisky was 12-1 LY and has 16 returning starters while Wash St was just 6-6 and only has 12 starters returning. Wash St has a big edge at QB with veteran Alex Brink while UW has a new starter.Georgia Tech 23 NOTRE DAME 20 - LY GT had one of its biggest ever home games and led 10-0 in the 2Q (see Past History) but lost with ND having a 384-259 yd edge. They were ND’s opponent in the famous “Rudy” game in their last trip here. GT is 9-4-1 ATS as an AD and has our #16 defense with 15 starters back overall. ND has a young QB going up against Jon Tenuta’s blitzing defense and this is similar to 2005’s situation when GT ended Auburn’s 14 game win streak with a 23-14 win AT Auburn as a 7’ pt dog. Weis is just 4-8 ATS as a HF. GT QB Bennett is making his 1st road start but played a great bowl game vs a blitzing WV defense. GT is 7-3 on the road vs ranked teams the last 3 years so they are well tested in this type of matchup and only lose 12 lettermen while the Irish must replace 28. Missouri 35 Illinois 31 - This game is in St Louis. Columbia is 124 miles away and Campaign is 181 but give a slight crowd edge to Missouri in this battle. This is their 3rd straight meeting in St Louis with the Tigers 2-0 SU with wins of 33-20 (+7’) in ‘02 and 22-15 (-3’) in ‘03. We rate Illinois as one of the most improved teams in the country and they were far better than last year’s 2-10 record (outgained opp by 36 ypg) as they had a 358-184 yd edge AT Penn St but lost and led #17 Wisconsin 24-10 at the half but lost by 6. They have a much improved Juice Williams at QB and the offense is upgraded with PS#1 WR Arrelious Benn who was in for the spring. Missouri is our pick to win the Big XII North and has super Chase Daniels at QB guiding our #6 offense (Ill #27). MO also has the ST edge at #57 vs #109 and with the new rules change on KO’s that could be big. Illinois does rate the edge on defense (#27 vs #52). Tough to go vs either of these “Play On” teams but call for the Tigers to get the SU win in a shootout.

2006 NFL TEAM RANKINGS (REG. SEASON)

To Read rankings - YPC is yards per carry for each team's offense and defense. Turnover edge is the amount of turnovers that team is + or -. OFF YPP is offensive yds per point. This shows the avg amount of yds a team travelled per point scored. The lower the number the more effi cient the off. DEF YPP is defensive yds per point. The higher the number here, the better the def is at making their opponents work at scoring points. The remaining columns show the team's rank in that category. Next to the passing ratings there may be a ! or an X. On the offensive side a ! means they are completing over 59% of their passes while the X shows that their QB's are completing less than 53%. Defensively, the opposite holds true as the ! has that team's def holding its opp under 53% completions and the X shows that they allow over 59% completions.

PRO STAT PLAYSUsing a strictly statistical analysis on the information above, our resident statisti-cian releases a top play of the week during the NFL regular season each week in the Power Sweep Newsletter. This gives you a play based strictly on their ranking offensively and defensively against their opponent. Quite often this ends up being one of the higher lined games.

WEEK 4 PRESEASON + WEEK ONE COLLEGE REGULAR SEASON

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES (cont from pg 4)BYU 23 Arizona 16 - BYU was held to season lows on offense last year by the Wildcat D. Their 13 pts was 35% of their season avg of 36.8 ppg. Teams that open the season at home have their altitude edge amplifi ed and BYU is 6-2 in season home openers with FIVE SU wins over BCS schools. Last year Arizona won on a FG on the last play (see Past History). AZ is just 6-13 in their fi rst road game. In their last 5 they are 1-4 ATS with the avg loss by 27.6 ppg (avg spread +13.2). This is the Cats fi rst test of their new spread offense and they take on our #21 rated secondary. While BYU has a young QB making his fi rst start, their #2 all-time leading passer John Beck (departed) threw for 310 yards in his fi rst start (‘03 vs Stanford) so young QB’s can do well in this offense. The Cats are the more veteran team with 17 starters back and QB Tuitama is 4-0 in road starts when he plays the entire game. The Cats have our #8 rated defense (#10 secondary) and are a bowl caliber team from a BCS conf getting points but Provo is a tough opening venue.AKRON 20 Army 16 - Army is 12-5 SU & 9-5 ATS vs current MAC members but is 1-13 SU and 4-9-1 ATS in road openers. This game is in Cleveland (Browns Stadium). They last met in 2005 and even though Akron was in a bowl and won the MAC and Army was just 4-7, the Knights won 20-0 with a 296-232 yd edge. Akron has 13 starters back and this is in Brookhart’s 4th year while Army has 12 starters back and Stan Brock is in his fi rst game as a HC. Army does have a big edge with one of its best D-lines ever vs an Akron O-line that has just one returning starter. Army should have a decent following so give only a slight home edge to Akron. NC STATE 30 Ucf 20 - 1st meeting. UCF is 1-10 SU but 7-3 ATS in road openers. Tom O’Brien steps into a good situation taking over a talented team that needed discipline which he will provide. George O’Leary has had his ups and downs at UCF and this should be an up year with 17 returning starters from a team that had a losing season (injury ravaged) in ‘06 just one year after winning the CUSA. O’Brien was 19-11-2 ATS as a HF at BC. State’s biggest edges are their RB’s vs UCF’s LB’s and on ST’s (#26-#64) as the situation favors UCF. The Wolfpack has their ACC opener on deck vs O’Brien’s old team while UCF has a bye. Another concern is O’Brien’s penchant for starting slow (3-7 ATS in openers). TCU 34 Baylor 10 - Both teams used to be in the SWC and the Big XII chose Baylor over TCU! LY was their 1st meeting S/‘95 and TCU was LUCKY to escape with the road win (see Past History). Even with Texas on deck TCU fi gures to have put a lot into this as their main rival in the MWC is BYU and Baylor runs a similar Texas Tech style offense. Last year at home TCU held TTech to a season low 204 yards passing (avg 369!). TCU has a new starting QB but Marcus Jackson led their 2H comeback LY hitting 11-13 in the 2H vs the Bears. Baylor looks to be in a rebuilding year with 32 lettermen lost while the Frogs have our #5 rated D which can be downright nasty with the pressure they get on opposing QB’s. BU HC Morriss is a TCU alum and preached the importance of this game giving dog tags inscribed with Beat the Frogs” to the team. Baylor had a 24-16 FD edge vs TCU LY and even though the Frogs may be peeking ahead to Texas but they still get a comfortable win here.

GEORGIA 33 Okla St 24 - Three years ago OSU opened on the road vs UCLA and dominated with a 31-20 win rushing for 424 yards. OSU just beat an SEC team (Alabama) in the bowl game and has their big 3 back this year in QB Reid, RB Savage and WR Bowman. They are 2-6 ATS as an AD under Gundy with 1 SU win in that role (Kansas +2’). The situation favors the Pokes as they only have Fla Atlantic on deck while Georgia has a huge game vs Steve Spurrier and South Carolina. The Dawgs were in this spot in 2005 and waxed #18 Boise St 48-13 as there was a lot of talk of Boise winning. GA is 5-10-1 ATS as a HF. This is a great non-conf matchup but we side with the SEC team that is our favorite to win the SEC East. KANSAS 33 C Michigan 20 - The Jayhawks are 8-4 ATS vs non-BCS schools. While CMich is 4-8-1 ATS in season openers. Chippewas are 2-20 SU & 5-16-1 ATS in non-conf AG’s. The Jayhawks are looking for a breakthrough year and after losing on the road vs Toledo LY will not take the defending MAC Champs and Motor City Bowl winner lightly. At 6-6 they were home for the holidays and missed out on being matched up with CM. They only have SE Louisiana on deck and Mangino is 8-5 ATS as a HF and on a current run of 12-5 ATS at home. Kansas actually dominated Toledo LY with a 23-14 FD edge yet lost so they may want to put the hammer down if they can. CMich returns QB LeFevour and WR Anderson who combined for 73 connections as frosh and overall has 14 starters back. They do have a fi rst time HC in Butch Jones who was the OC at CM in ‘02-’03 and was the QB coach at WV the last 3 yrs. CM did win in the Glass Bowl LY (same place Kansas lost) and almost upset Kentucky on the road. After losing to a MAC team at home (BG 39-16) in his fi rst year Mangino waxed Toledo 63-14 in his only other opportunity (‘04). Colorado 21 Colorado St 20 - †Denver. The dog is 9-2 ATS in this in-state rivalry with the last 5 being decided by 4.4 ppg. LY CU scored a TD on its 1st poss (see Past History) but lost 14-10 with CSU QB Hanie hitting 20-23 for 233 yds. The offenses are even with the Buffs having the edge on defense (#37 vs #67) and CSU the ST edge (#40-#81). This game is in Denver with a split crowd. Hawkins opened his 1st year at CU 0-6 and with Ariz St and Fla St on deck will make this game a high priority. Colo St is one of the most improved teams in the NCAA and has 81.3% lettermen returning while CU has just 60.2%. CSU offense will greatly improve on their 2.5 ypc with RB Kyle Bell returning from injury. This looks like another intra-state toss-up so take the points. cont on pg 10

UNDERDOG PLAY OF THE WEEKOver the past 23 years this play has been a reader favorite hitting 173-113-3 60%! Over the last 7 years the Underdog Play of the Week has recorded 25 OUTRIGHT UPSET WINNERS to the incredible record! Here is the rst Underdog Play for the 2007 season:

Wake is 4-0 ATS vs Boston College with THREE outright upsets! They are the defending ACC Champs and coach Grobe is in his 7th year. BC has a brand-new HC in Jagodzinski who was with the Packers last year. BC was 7-0 SU and 3-2-1 ATS at home last year but that was with departed HC O'Brien who they face NEXT week. Grobe meanwhile is 20-8 ATS as a dog. You would think that teams would have the edge when facing WF in the opener with a month to prep for their confusing alignments, but WF is 3-3 ATS in openers and has avg 27.3 ppg. In BC’s loss LY they did have a 430-280 yd edge with QB Ryan having career highs of 40-57 for 402. Wake is 9-1 ATS vs the ACC Atlantic Division that started 2 years ago. They also won all 6 SU on the road LY (beat Florida St 30-0), have a veteran QB and could pull another upset. FORECAST: Wake Forest (+) 24 BOSTON COLLEGE 23

OTHER COLLEGE GAMES CONT PITT 34 E Michigan 13 - EM is 6-24 ATS vs non-conf, 5-18 ATS on grass and 2-15 SU in road openers with the avg loss by 26 ppg (6-10 ATS). Pitt only has Grambling on deck while EMich has a MAC West game vs Ball St. EM has 16 returning starters and just 9 lettermen lost and fi gures to be much stronger. At one point LY Pitt was 6-1 and thinking BCS but lost their last 5 and also lose QB Palko. LY EM allowed 370 ypg on the road and Pitt allowed 372 ypg at home. Wannstedt lost his 1st game vs a MAC member (Ohio in 2005) and LY crushed Toledo 45-3 at home. Pitt also beat Virginia by 25 in LY’s home opener. E Mich has played well away as Genyk is 11-7 ATS on the road and LY only lost on the road by 13 ppg despite their 1-11 fi nish. Purdue 31 TOLEDO 27 - Toledo is 26-10 ATS in the Glass Bowl and 36-4 SU! They have beaten the last 3 BCS teams who braved the trip in Minnesota (38-7 ‘01), #9 Pitt (35-31 ‘03) and Kansas (37-31 OT ‘06). Toledo is actually 2-1 SU vs Purdue and beat Joe Tiller is his Purdue coaching debut in ‘97. Purdue only has a IAA foe on deck while Toledo has a MAC West game vs defending MAC Champ C Mich (only West gms count for them in MAC standings). Amstutz is 5-0 ATS as a HD! Both teams are much improved but Purdue has our #15 offense and Toledo’s is only #81. Last year Toledo beat Kansas but was lucky to do so as KU had 24-13 FD and 391-237 yd edges. AUBURN 30 Kansas St 13 - The Wildcats are 6-19 ATS in their road openers. Auburn has lost 3 of its last 5 openers SU but 2 were vs USC and LY they whipped Wash St 40-14. Kan St usually plays a cupcake non-conf schedule so this is their fi rst road gm vs a non-conf BCS team in 6 years. LY they struggled on the road allowing 389.8 ypg and were 1-4 ATS with their 4 losses by 20 ppg. That includes their pathetic bowl effort vs Rutgers where they were outgained 479-162 and managed 6 FD’s. They do have 15 returning starters and are in the 2nd year of Ron Prince’s schemes. Auburn has a veteran QB in Cox and 7 starters back on defense from a unit that allowed just 292 ypg. The key could be the heat and humidity of the South which Auburn has practiced in all year and wore Wash St down last season. While we expect a big improvement in Cats QB Freeman, he has yet to prove he can get it done on the road vs a tough defense. CALIFORNIA 31 Tennessee 27 - Cal is 10-3 SU but 5-7 ATS in home openers S/'94. UT dominated Cal in rushing LY 216-64 and led 35-0 at home vs the #9 Bears before allowing garbage points. Tedford is 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS at home vs BCS non-conf with the avg win by 29.3 ppg. UT has won 12 straight season openers but the last one on the road was in '98. The Vols have delivered outright upsets in 2 of their last 3 road openers as AD. Tenn piled up 514 yds vs Cal’s D LY and Cal has just 5 starters back on that side. Cal rates the edge on offense and Tennessee on D. Cal has a good sized ST edge and UT is on their fi rst trip West of the Mississippi since visiting UCLA in '97.UTEP 24 New Mexico 21 - UTEP is 7-3 ATS in home openers and 6-2 ATS hosting former WAC rival NM. LY the Miners fell behind 19-0 w/just 4 FD & 83 total yards at the half and lost 26-13 on the road. While UTEP has a solid home edge the Lobos are an outstanding 15-7 as an AD. The Lobos have a large advantage on defense with our #39 rated unit vs a young Miner group (#108). Even breaking in a new QB UTEP has the offensive edge with all 5 OL’s back and 3 VHT skill players. UTEP has been an underachieving team the last 2 years while New Mexico has been an overachiever. The talent on the fi eld says UTEP but all of the other power ratings point to NM. The bottom line here is that Long’s teams are just 14-30-1 ATS in the 1H of the year and 38-21 in the 2H of the year so call for the Miners to start fresh with a win. Keep in mind they should have beaten #24 Texas Tech at home LY losing in OT.

ARIZONA ST 41 San Jose St 13 - ASU is 12-4 ATS at home vs non-conf and these two last met in '01. ASU won 53-15 (-15’). The Sun Devils are 5-0 ATS in lined home openers (avg cover by 11.7). Dennis Erickson has the great advantage of facing SJSt in his season fi nale at Idaho LY and preps for the same team in this year’s opener. Erickson was 13-2 as a HF when he coached at another Pac-10 school Oregon St. ASU will be motivated as not only is this Erickson’s fi rst HG but they were 7-6 LY with a bowl loss while SJSt was 9-4 with a bowl win. SJSt is 1-3 ATS in road openers with the avg SU loss by 41 ppg. SJSt HC Tomey is 3-6 as an AD at SJSt and 8-3-1 in all other roles. USC 55 Idaho 0 - Last met in 1929. An interesting subplot is that USC DC Nick Holt was Idaho’s HC in ‘04-’05 and surprisingly left the team for USC last year. He is very familiar with the players but the Vandals may also have a little extra emotion because of it. USC has a bye on deck and their 3rd string would be favored over Idaho. Pete Carroll is 21-9 as a HF and 11-4 vs non-conf so he does put the hammer down. The Vandals were 29 pt dogs to start off each of the last 2 years but only lost by 8 and 10. Robb Akey is their new HC and last year his D (Wash St) held USC to 28 points. Idaho has a young QB and just 12 starters back learning new schemes on both sides of the ball. Pete Carroll is 4-0 when favored by 24 or more in Sept with wins by an avg of 56-11. This is Carroll’s best D yet and they may want to start the year with a shutout. PENN ST 41 Florida Int’l 0 - Paterno has opened vs non-BCS conf schools each of the last 5 years and is 2-3 ATS with wins by only 3, 13, 10 and 18 among the 5. He will have to do a great coaching job this week to get his team not to look past an 0-12 FIU team as NOTRE DAME is on deck! The Panthers are breaking in a new QB on the road in front of 100,000+ and our #7 rated defense. After LY’s Lion team only avg 22.3 ppg JoePa may want to give that unit some confi dence and it should be a top 40 unit this year. Power Plays calls for a 46 pt win but with a lack of focus in the 2H it may be tough to hit that high a number. TEXAS 45 Ark St 3 - 1st meeting. Ark St has lost 16 straight road openers by a 42-13 avg! Texas has won 7 straight season openers by an avg of 52-5! The Horns do have TCU on deck but last year beat both Sun Belt opponents by an avg of 62-4 even though they had Ohio St and Arkansas on deck. ASU has lost by 40 ppg in their last 5 on the road vs ranked tms. Texas ranks in our top 15 on both off and def and ASU in the bottom 15 in both and both have shown the propensity to get blown out in this situation. OKLAHOMA 49 N Texas 0 - OU is 9-0 SU & 6-1 ATS vs current SBC tms (48-6 avg score). Including LY’s 59-0 win vs SBC Champ Middle Tenn, Oklahoma has 9 shutouts in 8 yrs. Since their National Title Stoops is just 1-4-1 ATS in season openers and they have a huge game vs Miami (Fl) on deck. NT is rebuilding under a new HC and moving to the Texas Tech type offense which the Sooners do well against every year. OU also has perhaps the best secondary in the NCAA so we will call for a shutout and give OU a good chance of holding NT to UNDER 100 TOTAL yards! OU has a young QB needing to gain confi dence and when he sits down other challengers for the job will come in meaning they should continue to score in the 2H. SOUTH CAROLINA 45 Louisiana-Lft 3 - While ULL has lost their last two road openers to Texas and LSU by an avg of 53-3 they were 6-1 ATS prior including 2003 when they only lost here 14-7 as a 24 pt dog. In ULL’s 6 meetings vs BCS schools since then they have lost by an avg of 41.6 ppg. Spurrier is on a 7-1 run as a favorite and LY beat SBC champ MTSt 52-7 (but MT had their SBC title game on deck). SC does have a huge game vs Georgia on deck but also has our #13 rated D which will be thinking shutout and a large edge on ST’s (#25 vs #95). ARKANSAS 37 Troy 17 - Troy is 5-1 ATS in road openers and almost upset Florida St last year. Their only meeting was in ‘02, a 23-0 Ark win (-24). Ark has had 5 TO’s in each of their last 2 season openers. They are 9-3 ATS prior to a bye but 5-9 ATS vs SBC teams. The Hogs had the #11 pass D LY and basically return 3 starters to that unit so they match up well vs Troy’s pass offense. Troy allowed 300+ yards rushing to GT and Neb LY and while they have 5 of their defensive front 7 back, they are still vulnerable to a powerful rush attack like the Hogs. QB Haugabook does give Troy some backdoor potential. FLORIDA ATLANTIC 20 Mid Tenn 13 - MT is a perfect 8-0 ATS in road openers and was 4-0 in SBC AG LY, winning by 23 ppg. The Owls are 4-6 SU & 2-5 ATS at home and 0-2 ATS in home openers. Angle players will love MT here especially since they were in a bowl LY and the Owls are just 7-16 SU the last 2 yrs. Last year’s matchup was a misleading fi nal as FAU had a 23-13 FD edge but MT got a 94 yd KR TD, a 50 yd FR TD, a 28 yd TD drive after a TO and while running out the clock with :46 left the RB broke thru and raced 56 yds for a garbage TD and a 35-14 win. FAU has 18 starters back and 51 lettermen (just 9 lost) while MT is not as experienced as LY with 12 starters back and 17 lettermen lost (just 33 ret). The Owls are underrated and showed they could stand toe-to-toe with MT LY, are improved and at home this year. Texas Tech 34 SMU 24 - Monday. SMU is 12-5 ATS at home but 1-5 ATS in home openers. The only time they faced TT in a home opener was '04 and they lost by 14 as a 24' pt dog. TT is 11-0 SU vs SMU S/’89 winning every gm by DD (avg win by 27). SMU only had our #83 pass D LY and has two starting DB’s back (both CB’s). They have allowed 488 total yds (24 pts), 437 yds (58 pts), 537 yds (27 pts) and 501 yds (35 pts) in Bennett’s 4 matchups vs Leach. TT is just 2-8 ATS as an AF and SMU is 7-4 as a HD. SMU outgained foes by 47 ypg at home LY (-34 ypg on road) with 373 ypg offense. TT only outgained foes by 14 ypg on the road (+115 at home). Florida St 24 CLEMSON 17 - Monday. The home team is 9-2-1 ATS. This is the 9th Bowden Bowl. LY CU scored w/:08 left as father Bobby lost to son Tommy for the 3rd time in 4 yrs. In the last two trips to Death Valley Bobby has lost by 16 & 21 pts. Tommy is 3-4 ATS in road openers. Florida St is one of the most improved teams in the country and could be this year’s surprise team while Clemson only has 12 starters back and must replace 28 lettermen (FSU loses just 16). BOWL HANGOVERFor a team to get to a bowl game, they had to have been success-ful the previous year. Teams off a 14 pt loss did lose a bit of their swagger. Now going on the road in their opening game the next year or facing a superior foe, this team which lost con dence, is perhaps unable to regain it in a much tougher situation. We have found that since 2000, teams that have lost by 14 points or more that are either an underdog or away from home are a poor 7-18 28% ATS. Therefore, Play AGAINST a team that lost by 14 points or more in a bowl game and opens up the following season away from home or as an underdog.
