PRESIDENT’S NOTE I would like to use this month’s “President’s Note” to introduce our newly appointed Board Member

Craig was born and raised in Pamlico County. He obtained both a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from East Carolina University. He is married to Melissa (Limpach) Holton, the daughter of Ralph and Joan Limpach, long-time members of the Club. Craig and Melissa have three children—Cameron (21), Luke (19), and Molly (14). Craig has been a Club member since 1996. He currently serves as the Director of Operations at CarolinaEast Internal Medicine (formerly ECIM).
Two new Board Members will be nominated prior to the end of the current fiscal year, May 31, 2013. If you would like to recommend a Club Member to the Board, please call or email Tyler Harris, the current Chairman of the Nominating Committee. Mr. Harris’ email address is [email protected]. FROM THE MANAGER
PATRICK DILL
Things are really busy at NBG&CC. The kids “Easter Egg Hunt” brought out many kids to look for over 1,000 eggs and the “Easter Buffet” brought out a record crowd. Now moving into May means the pool will be opening on Memorial Day Weekend and capped off with the Memorial Day Pool Party. We also now have “Boot Camp” going on every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30am. Men and women of all ages are more than welcome. “Live Music on the Patio” is now back and more successful than ever. We have several different artists that are scheduled to play
in May, so come out, have some drinks, dinner and a lot of fun.
Fathers and children — don’t forget that “Mother’s Day” is May 12th and ALL mothers need a very special gift, as well as a great
brunch at the Club!
With wedding season right around the corner, please make note
of special closings in the dining room.
Please remember to be courteous to others and pick up after your
pets.
Walkers - please be aware of golfers at all times on the golf
course. Golfers have the right-of-way at all times and getting hit
by a golf ball can be extremely dangerous and painful. So please
remember that walking on a golf course is done at your own risk.
Golfers - please be aware of the dress code while playing golf.
Shirt tails must be tucked in at all times.
Just a reminder that the main kitchen is closed on Tuesday
nights, but the Bar is open with food service from the Snack Bar
until 8:00pm.
Les’ We Forget By Bill Street
While visiting my family at Christmas in Winston Salem, I caught my foot and went down hard enough to break the femur bone in my upper leg near the hip. Following the surgery, I spent three and a half months at Silas Creek Rehab. Thank you, my friends, for all your kind cards and hugs...IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK!!! Onto our President for 1978, David Cordes. He worked in the Pro Shop in the early ‘50s when I joined. His wife was Nellie and they had a daughter named Debbie. Margaret Weatherly was our Ladies Champion that year. She and Abbott had two sons, Abbott Jr. and John. Hubby Abbott, by the way, is a past president as well as an accomplished golfer and card player—still getting by the card room in his mid 90s. If I make it to my 90s and as active and alert as Abbott, I’ll be a very happy man! Eric Minschew took the Men’s Championship in 1978. He was married to Pat (Arant) and had two children, Pam and Jeffrey. Eric later considered the Senior Tour, but I understand did not follow through on this. NOTE OF INTEREST: Josh Taylor just accepted a “preferred walk on offer” at NC State. Good Luck Josh!

Tennis Court Dress Code
As warmer temperatures are quickly approaching, I would like to remind you of
the dress code while on or around the tennis courts. Shirts must be worn at all
times when on or around the tennis courts. Men are not allowed to wear tank tops
or shirts with cut off sleeves. Please remember to wear proper tennis footwear
while playing tennis. Improper footwear such as running shoes not only
damages the playing surfaces but they also increase your chances of falling or
getting hurt. Thank you for your cooperation with this policy.

With the absence of our tennis pro-invitational since 2008, I am excited to announce that I am
bringing it back for 2013. The pro-invitational will consist of 16 pros (8 teams) of fast action

along with many of the old staff and with some
new faces as well. We are scheduling many
exciting events for all ages.
We are bringing back the week long Summer Fun
Day Camp, with activities like arts and crafts,
daily swim time, and various sports and games
and fun on the RIVER. The first dates will be the
week of June 24th-June 27th. It’s first come, first

out your upcoming newsletters for all events like
poolside cookouts, buffets, and pool parties.
Pool Hours will remain the same:
Monday-Sunday 11:00am - 7:00pm
Late closing days will still be Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday nights until 9:00pm
We will be offering swim lessons again
this year. Veteran guard, Lisa Harshman is
heading up our swim lessons again this
summer. There will be registration forms
available at the lifeguard station with dates and
times for group lessons. Private one-on-one
lessons are also available. Just get in touch with
Lisa and check for availability. Swim lessons
are taught in the mornings before the pool
opens to insure privacy and safety for all of our
swimmers. Many members’ children have
learned to swim and feel comfortable around
the water from our qualified guards and
instructors.
NBG&CC also has a summer league swim team, THE
STINGRAYS. The swim team is open to all members’
children from ages 6 to 16. The swim team will
practice several mornings each week and compete
against other local pools in meets during the
summer. The final event is the city meet, held at the
YMCA and is an all-day event. NBG&CC swimmers
still hold records at the city meet and broke some
last year. Watch for an email about a parent meeting
and sign-up. Veteran Guards and Swim Team
Coach, Matt Burns, are looking forward to another
great season for the Stingrays! (Matt just finished his
second year as a Varsity Swimmer at Phiefer
College)
The fee will remain $55 per child.
STAY COOL AND WE’LL SEE YA BY THE POOL!
There are many special events scheduled for the
pool this summer. We always have a huge July 4th
celebration along with Member-Guest and
Member-Member tournament weekends. Golf,
Tennis, and Swim Camp is always popular so sign
up fast, as those slots fill quickly. Check with the
Pro Shops for dates and sign-ups. There will also
be special poolside buffets and dinners for
members throughout the season.
Private parties are offered also and must be scheduled in advance only after regular pool hours. These are
made through the events coordinator and Club Manager, Patrick Dill. We are going to continue the special fee schedule for pool rental this year. A flat fee of $75.00 per hour reserves the pool for you and your guests. This includes the
lifeguards, servers, tables, and everything you need for a great party by the pool. Your favorite food and beverages can
