BLESSED FATHER’S DAY (FROM THE ARCHIVES)
...And the tall, handsome young man looked into the eyes of his princess and asked,
"May I have this dance?" To which the princess squealed and giggled with delight, "Sure, Daddy!" And the dance began. Of all the paintings in the world, none are more famous or prolific than that of the Madonna and child, the Mother and her Son. By comparison, you can hardly name a famous portrait of a father and daughter and yet I dare to say that the Father/Daughter relationship is as easily important and in some ways more important than the Father/Son or Mother/Daughter relationship. I will go so far as to say that it is almost impossible for a little girl to reach healthy psycho-sexual-spiritual maturity without the presence of a father or at least a father figure. It's that important. Several weeks ago, Kathy and Judy on their radio talk show were talking about the Daddy/Daughter relationship. They were wondering out loud why little girls who had fathers involved in their lives seemed to be so much more healthy and secure in adulthood than little girls who did not. I raised my hand and announced to the radio speaker, "I know the answer to that one." I knew the answer because for the past several years I have been observing a father raise his little daughter. I have been watching very closely and with great interest my son Luis, father his daughter Azucena. And it has been a wonder to behold. In case you haven't noticed, Mommies and Daddies are different. Not only are they physically different, but they are psychologically and even spiritually different. Because of the way they were raised, because of their emotional makeup, they see the world through different sets of eyes. And it is a known fact that one cannot see the world with any depth with just one eye, you need them both. And so do children. Mothers and Fathers have very different roles in the raising of children and both are essential. Mothers are unconditional love. The closest love to God's love is a Mother's. Mommy loves us when we are good, mommy loves us when we are bad. Mommy loves us, period. It is a love without strings, it is a love without condition and it is a love that is absolutely necessary for a child to grow and thrive. The upside of that kind of love is that it never says, "No." The downside is that it never says, "No." And that's were Daddy's love comes in. Fathers love their children without condition as well, but by their nature and by their psyche they are concerned with boundaries. For a woman all things and people are important. For men there are hierarchies. For a woman all are welcome. For man there are lines of
demarcation, right and wrong, yes and no, and sometimes black and white. This may not be a great place to finish life, but it is a wonderful place to start. And it gives children a tremendous sense of security. If they know the parameters of life, within the circle they are free. Outside the circle, they are out of bounds, in trouble. To teach this is the sacred job of the father. When Azucena was a toddler, her job was to stretch the limits of her world and push her boundaries as far out as she could. Nothing is more ironclad than the will of a two year-old (they don't call them the terrible twos for nothing). And sometimes, no matter how hard Momma tries, they just don't listen. And so it was with Azucena...until Daddy got home. Now, I have watched the scene a hundred times and still find it a marvel to behold. The two year-old begins to cross a line of behavior, an inappropriate action for a two year-old and Daddy takes her gently in his arms and says to her, "Azucena, no." She doesn't want to hear this but Daddy won't let her go, "I said, no." And then the lip starts to quiver and the tears start to form, and she wants to rebel but she knows that she can't because this isn't Mommy’s energy that's coming out, this is Daddy energy and it is strong and just as ironclad as hers. And he is going to win. And so is she because in a short time she collapses into his arms knowing the security of being surrounded by the boundaries of love. And that's what Daddies do best. (By the way, this works for little boys, too. Just ask her little brother Abraham.) Now, what this little girl is learning in the arms of her father will last her forever. Several years ago, I had a young woman in my office who was coming off her fifth or sixth failed relationship. She told me there was no father in her life and every time a young man told her he loved her, she hopped into bed with him hoping that he could give her what she desperately needed from her father...security, respect, dignity and love. The shame was, that the boys whose arms she continually ran into were never fathered themselves. They too did not know the meaning of the word, "no". She was desperate for a way out of her dilemma and knew that if something didn't change she would repeat the cycle all over again. I encouraged her to find a father. "I'm twenty-six years old. My father has been out of my life all of my life." "Then find another one," I encouraged her. "It's never too late". And it isn't. It's never too late to be fathered. Whatever we missed in childhood, we can pick up as an adult. Oh, it's a lot harder, and it takes a lot longer but it can be done. The problem is finding the right father. But they are there. Actually, they are here. Oh, how I would love to have a cadre of fathers who could father the fatherless boys and girls all around us. There is no wound more severe than the father wound and there is no salve more effective than the salvation that comes from the Father.

Note from the Pastor (cont.)
Three weeks ago I walked into our Ministry Center and my heart was overjoyed. There before me was a whole house full of fathers and daughters. With their very best dresses and their hair all coiffured, the little girls knew what it meant to be a real lady for they were escorted in the arms of real men, their daddies. God bless these daddies! God bless their unconditional love, God bless their sacred no. God bless their willingness to be with and father their daughters. There is no greater sacred duty and nothing more important than dancing with their daughters. Here they surround them with the security of their own loving arms and protect them in the boundaries of that love. It is said that God the Father is the dancer and we are the dance. The dance cannot be separated from or exist from the dancer or neither could or should little girls be separated from their daddies. May I have this dance?

RE Registrations. Please note the following classes are closed: Kindergarten and Grade 2 is closed at 3:15 pm. At 5:15 pm Grades 3 and 5 are closed. Right now we ask that you consider home schooling your children if there is no room in your desired session. This option is available in all grades except Gr. 2 and 8, our sacrament years. FYI: registration in the RE program is limited to participating members of Mary Queen Parish. If you are new to the parish, please register in the parish prior to registration in the RE program.
We are in need of catechists for the 2011/2012 RE year. 3:15 pm - Grade 1 – 1 co-catechist Grade 2 – 4 catechists
As reflected above we have a very urgent need for catechists at the second grade level at 3:15 pm. This is the year we prepare the children for the reception of First Communion. This is a very important time in our little one’s lives. If you would be willing to work with our little Communicants or know someone who is able, please let us know. We may have other needs as summer progresses. We will keep you posted. If you have not as yet returned your yellow volunteer form, please do so. We are counting on you. September seems very far away, but it will be here before you know it. If you are someone who loves your Faith and would enjoy sharing it with our children, we would love to talk to you.
For more info on any of the above, please contact Mary Ann Woods at the REO: (630) 832-8962 or
email: [email protected].
Please call (630) 279-5700 to have a name added to our list. A new listing will appear in bold face. Names will remain on the prayer list for four weeks. Contact the parish office to renew the individual’s name on our prayer list.
We hope that you will pray for these persons every day.

Diocesan News
THEY HAVE MINISTERED TO US FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS..
Our Diocesan priests have given so much to all of us. Now we can show them how much we care. On this Father’s Day weekend, a second collection will be held during all the Masses for the Diocese of Joliet Priests’ Retirement Fund. This collection helps to strengthen the pension for our retired diocesan priests. Their Social Security checks are not large, and so their pension helps provide for their living expenses. Please help to take care of them like they have taken care of us during their years of ministering. Our generosity is a way to say "Thank You Father".
