420 Class World Championships 2015
Castle-Bay Karatsu, Saga Pref. Japan
The proposed venue is the Saga Pref. Yacht Harbor in Karatsu-City.
Saga Pref. Yacht Harbor is one of the JOC’s Sailing Training Center
and many sailors have grown up through this Sailing Training Center,
and achieved successful results, such as sliver at Atlanta Olympic,
2×silver ISAF Youth World 420 Boy, 2nd and 3rd 420 Ladies World,18th
place London Olympic 470 Men, etc.
This training center has been promoting for 420s since 1987.
The 420 fleet in Karatsu-City is the largest in Japan, and running several
420 training camps and regattas every year.
General Details
In 2012, the Japan Sailing Federation took a big step forward to take up
420 after a long period with effort to establish strong fleet of FJ which did not grow up
as expected. JSAF financially supported all high schools around Japan to purchase
their first 420. So, 420 is “booming DREAM class” in Japan at the moment, together with
Laser Radial. Therefore, all youth sailors will have an opportunity to take part to
challenge ISAF Youth Worlds.
By 2015, Japan will have 130 boats of post ISAF Youth Charter boats and tow local
builders just starting to build locally…we are expecting a big fleet of 420 all over Japan.
Moreover, since Karatsu is located close to Asian countries. Karatsu has been making
good exchange of youth sailors with East Asian countries and developed youth sailing
and their friendship. This World Championships shall strengthen the connection among
Asia.
So…it will be a great honor to host 420 World Championships in 2015 in Japan at the
venue, where 420s have been actively sailed.
Reasons why organise the event
The bid for 420 Class World Championships in 2015 is based on our study of the
International 420 Class Championship Guidelines (version2013).
Here we confirm that we have read, understood and agreed to comply with all the
requirements of the documents provided.

Recommendation from Jean-Luc MICHON
Karatsu 420 Worlds
No doubt the Team Karatsu Will organize a Wonderful 420 worlds.
I was there in 2009 for the Laser Radial Worlds. It was perfectly organized and
every sailor enjoyed the championship very much.
The whole city and their inhabitants were involved in the event and
showed their sense of hospitality. The sailing was great and the social side
also. A nice Laser café was organized at the venue.
I strongly recommend all the 420 sailors to attend the event because
it will be a life time experience.
