41st A OCS Fall Meeting Attendance Surpasses Predictions Three New Symposia Heard; 125 Papers Presented Registration Passes 1000 Mark tW~he prediction made at the time of J. the AOCS New Orleans Meeting was that its momentum and enthusiasm would carry over to the Fall Meeting and that attendance in Chicago would very likely surpass the 1.000 mark. The record shows that the prediction was assuringly correct: the final tally indicates a registration of 1,067, a record for AOCS meetings. The tech- nical program was excellent, with three symposia conducted on topics never before scheduled for AOCS sessions. and a total of 125 papers presented in all. Sunday~Meetings and Mixer The meeting really began on Satur- day afternoon. October 14. with an early committee meeting on Biochem- ical Methods. The "early bird" scheduling continued on Sunday, with a Lipids Advisory Board convening early Sunday morning, and the Gover- ning Board convening Sunday after- noon. Committee members and noncom- mittee members arriving early were on hand for the opening cocktail hour. Members are always eager for the Sunday ]~vening Mixer to begin--the chance to talk of "shoes and ships and oils and wax" is an opportunity no one wants to miss, and the occasion of the Chicago Mixer was no exception. A. Reiners, General Chair man of the 41st Fall Meeting, and representative of Chicago's Mayo Richard Daley relayed the ~Iayor' welcome to the Society at its convening Bond Award Presented by C. D. Evans Chairman of the Bond Award Corn mittee. C. D. Evans, announced tha J. P. Jordan, Oklahoma University had won the Bond Award Gold Meda and Certificate for his paper, "Avidil Sensitivity and Elongation of Fatt: Acids by Rat Liver Mitochondria,: given at the Spring Meeting in Nex Orleans. Certificates were presented t, co-authors of the paper, E. B. Harri and Carolyn W. Musser. Honorabl Mention Certificates were presented t E. S. Rothman for his paper, "Re actions of the Stearoylated Enoli Form of Acetone Involving Hexade cylketene as the Reactive Inte~ mediate," and to T. It. Applewhite fo presentation of the paper, "Rate o Reaction of Hexahalocyclopentadiene with Long Chain Monoencs."
