In our regular meeting on May 11, 2018 President Rtn. Dr. Rita
Kalra was pleased to welcome the Chief Guest, H/Rtn. Deepak
Dhiman, Vice President, Dainik Bhaskar Group, Chandigarh. The
President also welcomed another guest Mr. R.K. Malhotra, Chief
Commissioner of Income Tax from Delhi, a friend of PP Rtn. Dr.
Kesho Ram Gupta. She also showed a video to commemorate the
Mother’s Day which is on May 13, 2018.
Deepak Dhiman
Mr. Deepak Dhiman who has done
MA in history from Annamalai
University, was formally introduced
by his friend, Rtn. Dr. Sanjay Kalra.
Deepak Dhiman is a very jovial
person. He is having 22 years of
professional experience as journalist.
He started his career from Dainik
Tribune. He also had his own paper
in Chandigarh, and then joined
Jansatta, a leading Hindi daily
newspaper of Indian Express Group.
He joined Dainik Bhaskar when it was launched in Chandigarh in
May 2000 and has held various responsible positions in this
leading newspaper group of India. Dainik Bhaskar has large
readership in this part of the country, with its circulation growing
at a rapid pace.
H/Rtn. Deepak Dhiman described newspaper or media as
developing a product involving many people to make the news.
He also narrated some funny results of their joint effort.
He referred to the recently reported forecast about heavy storm in
Chandigarh with high alert all over north India creating
unnecessary panic, including closure of schools for 2 days. The
storm which did not happen, was actually shown on the social
media, well doctored by some youth of today who has easy
excess to media through internet, facebook, twitter and whatsapp.
The developments in communications technology has presented
the media to youth as never before, and their involvement with
the media has risen to a great extent.
Mr. Dhiman quite candidly stated that ‘breaking news’, creating
sensation, large scale competition within the media groups,
political influence and financial pressures are responsible for mis-
reporting and degradation of both print and electronic media.
Being a honorary Rotarian of our club, Mr. Deepak Dhiman was
pleased to advice the media to follow Rotary’s Four Way Test of
the things we think, say or do;
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
