40th Anniversary Season

40 Years in the Community

• First concert was held on August 5, 1979. Now 40, we are one of the oldest music festivals in Canada.

• Until 2002, concerts were held in the “Festival Hall”, also known as one of the gyms at Parry Sound High School.

• In 1985, James Campbell became the artistic director, and continues in that role to the present day.

• In 2003, the Festival of the Sound moved from PSHS and into the new Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts.

Festival of the Sound Core Goals

• To be a renowned, intimate celebration of chamber music

• All performances to be exemplary and world class

• Provide innovative, creative and thematic programming

• Deepen the audience’s experience, understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of music

• Provide emerging performers and composers with opportunities for exposure and recognition

• Fostering local interest in the arts
