c. Route to Coaata
94th "A" CBW was a little late at Division assembly line so we turlted wide at the :first point and 94th "A" out short to mow in ahead. The F.nglish Coast wa1 depar~d on course, one minute late. We were in eaetwe~ correct Division formation, being last.
4 . Attacks
a. Flight to Targets
Inside the Ennr,y Coast high clouds were evident so the climb waa continued above the bri:f'ed 20,000 feet, level. 'l'he DiTision Leader reported he w1u in it but could ma.ntain :formation without too 11111oh difficulty. We entered the thin cloud formation at about 2~,600 and climbed to 25,000 but still remained in it . At times the other two boxes were not visible but ships in the Lead Group in general remained visible. Additonal di:f':f'iculty was encountered since the preceding Wings lett heavy contrail for.mations . Finally the Division Leader determined to turn back and strike targets of opportunity. All other Will.bB which heard him on VHF follored suit. WI received autlientication and :followed suit. We turned back in the vicinity of. control point H S(Zweibuchen, Germany). 94th "A" CBN had been deecending during the conversation with the Division Leader in an et:f'ort to obtain visibility for bombing. Prior to descent the High Box pulled away :f'roa formation, etarted descent and was broken up. Six airoratt from the H1gh Box joined the Tfing :formation, making 18 ships. e made a run at 20,000 feet on the rail yards at Neunbircken, Germany. Visibility was so bad a successful ai~hting could not be made and no bombs were dropped. 1he Wing Leader then told the navi ator to tnke the Wing t o the marshalling yards at Luxembourg which wae )morn to be a very good target. Visibility was not good but we hamed on the target with PJF and the bombardier picked up the yards when about ten miles out. Good reaul ta were obtained by both Lead and Law Boxe1. The six aircraft f'rOIIl the High dropped on the Wing Lead bombardier.

Upon receiving t he recall me1eage telling ue not to bomb the priary ani to return to the Ba1e, we decided, since we were over Gena.ny, to look for a Tar et of Opportunity. We were heading about 1100 at the time and sighted the city of Neubriche~. ITe made abe turn, now heading about 300°, ani 11Ulde a bamb run on the city but because of the very heavy haze and the ahort bomb run, synchronizat ion was not perfected so the bombs were not dropped.

We followed in Wing formation until the Wing Leader called to eay they were going to bomb t he mar1halling yard• at Luxenbourg. Then we did in trail a.nd made our own run. ll&ving been to the target about ~ aonths previoualy ,. the target wa1 very familiar to us. e ttayed a reaaonabl e diatance behind the Lead Box so that we could see wha.t they cboN for an MPI and 10 tha.t we cauld chooae a.nout her point. They hit the junction of t he S branches of tracke and we knew t he 2 big ro dhou.aea were damaged oonaiderably the laat time we were t here eo we aimed at t he branch of tracka on tbt right eide becauae it looked like there .. re a lot of oil and regular railroad cars t here. The bombu were dropped wit h excellent retult t, the entire pattern coverinG the a.rea very well.
