    Lent is a period that begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes the Saturday before Easter. Historically, Lent was a time of preparation for those who were to be baptized. Today,Christians use this time to prepare their hearts for Easter. It is a time of repentance, Bible study, prayer and fasting before the Resurrection of the Lord on Easter Sunday. Since Sun-days celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, the six Sundays that occur during Lent are not counted as part of the 40 days of Lent. There are many ways that Christians can use this peri-od of time for introspection, self-examination, and repentance. As we seek to grow closer to God, following are some ways in which we can focus dur ing this Lenten season.

    Day 1: Pray for your enemies

    Day 2: Walk, carpool, bike or take a bus somewhereDay 3: Invite someone to church

    Day 4: Give something to a non-profit of your choosing

    Day 5: Spend 5 minutes of silence at noon in prayer

    Day 6: Look out the window until you find something of beauty you hadnot noticed before

    Day 7: Give 5 items of clothing to a non-profit of your choice.

    Day 8: Make this a day of no complaining

    Day 9: Do someone elses chores

    Day 10: Buy a few $5 fast food gift cards to give to a homeless personthat you encounter

    Day 12: Pray for people and situations in todays news

    Day 13: Read Psalm 139

    Day 14: Pay a few sincere compliments

    Day 15: Invite someone to church

    Day 16: Educate yourself about human trafficking

    Day 18: Media diet (cut back on internet)

    Day 19: Introduce yourself to a neighbor

    Day 20: Pray and meditate the Lords Prayer throughout the day
