CONCEPT OF POSITIONAL DEFENCE

Positional defence is used when it isnecessary to prevent a particular feature

or area, falling into enemy hands.

Form a tactical combination capable ofdenying the ground and destroying attackupon it.

confined to the operation of screens orguards aggressive patrolling

Positional Defence Positional defence reliesupon the use of prepared positions on commandingground, mutually supporting firepower and obstacles toprevent the enemy penetrating the framework of the

defence.

Mobile Defence &n mobile defence the aim is todefeat an enemy within an area of considerable depth byfighting from a series of alternative pre( reconnoiteredand if possible prepared battle positions in preference toan attempt to defeat him on a specifically definedposition. This form of defence is enforced either when

Vital Groun %ital ground is ground the

possession of which by an enemy will make the occupationof the area by friendly forces impossible. &t is of suchsignificance that if it is lost and the defence is tocontinue it must be recaptured. &t is normally selected bya formation commander.

Deliberate Defence ) deliberate defensiveposition is one selected and prepared when out of contactwith an enemy. There should be time for detailed

reconnaissance and planning on chosen ground and forconstruction and concealment of positions without enemyground interference.
