Oil Palm cultivation is gaining momentum under irrigated and rainfed areas in India and at present
it is cultivated in an area of 3.00 lakh hectares. Oil Palm Area Expansion programme is implemented to
motivate the farmers and assist them to cultivate the crop successfully. In order to harness the production
potenti<ll of oil palm to the maxim um exte'1t possible, it is es~er.t:21 that the brmers are moti'Jated and
equipped to adopt the recommended technologies. Technical knowledge and skills among farmers and
extension functionaries are essential pre-requisite for oil palm development in the country.
I am happy to inform you that ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research is organizing different
subject matter training programmes to the officials and field staff of the Department of Agriculture /
Horticulture / Oil Palm Entrepreneurs / State Agricultural Universities / ICAR Institutes / Krishi Vigyan
Kendras and to the farmers based on the requirement from different organizations involved in oil palm
development.
Please find enclosed the "Training Schedule 2016-17" of Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research. It is
requested to nominate one or two officials from your organization to each of the training programmes
given in the Training Schedule, in the enclosed format at the earliest. Selected personnel will be informed
well in advance to enable them to arrange for the required logistics. You are also requested to send us your
requirement of farmers training programmes in advance, to enable us to organise the same in a befitting
manner.

ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, a constituent body of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is the only Institute exclusively devoted to oil palm research in India. It serves as a lead institute for conducting and coordinating the research on all aspects of Oil Palm including germ plasm conservation, improvement, production, protection, post harvest technology and technology transfer.
Training programmes are being organised at regular intervals to the officials of state department of Agriculture / Horticulture,entrepreneurs,scientists ofSAU's and ICAR institutes. Training programmes are also conducted to farmers on different subject matter areas of oil palm. Contractual training programmes are conducted on the following courses.

1.01L PALM PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY
Course content: Oil palm scenario in the world and India, botany, nursery management, Planting, management of plantations, breeding, seed production, water management, fertilizer management, cropping system, role of pollinators, pest & disease management in plantations, quarantine requirements, management of nutrient deficiency and disorders, maturity standards and harvesting of oil palm fresh fruit bunches, quality analysis and value addition, by product utilization, transfer of appropriate technology forsustainable production and visits to experimental fields, Oil Palm nurseries, plantations, seed garden and processing units etc.
