4-H Gazette Hopkins County, TX July/August 2015 Wow! What a great time we had with our guests from Smyth County, Virginia! 28 4- H’ers and adults spent four days with Hopkins County host homes. While here, they received real southern hospitality from the Infinity 4-H Club, who provided the welcome meal. The rest of their visit included Dairy Festival activities, such as the Hot Air Balloon Rally, parade, Cow Milking Contest, and the Ice Cream Freeze-off. They took time to visit our downtown square, spend time outdoors at the home of Billy & Marsha Branch for zip-line and archery, swimming at Bobby McDonald’s, visit the AT&T Stadium and Ft. Worth Stock Yards, tour a local dairy, and dine on our local cuisine. Johanna hosted the “Farewell” meal at her home, and on the day of their departure, the Extension staff treated them to breakfast. A HUGE thanks to our 4-H Host homes!! A group of 8 4-H members and 4 adults traveled to Eau Claire, summer, 2014. Those participating were: Jake and Josh Couch Ki and Kassie Northcutt Katelyn and Wesley McDonald Morgan and Jace Mayers Adults traveling with the group were Mario Villarino, Margarett McDonald, Ruthie Mayers, and Bobby McDonald. Hopkins County 4-H members, 6th grade and up will have the opportunity to travel to Smyth County, Virginia in 2016. Tentative dates are June 19-29, 2016. We will be holding several planning meetings and all involved will be expected to participate in fund-raisers. Applications will be due July 17th. As the new 4-H year approaches, it’s time to think about re-enrollment, re-

cruiting new members, and officer elections! When planning your September

4-H meetings, add officer elections to your agenda. Each club needs:

Multi-County 4-H Camp

By the time you receive this newsletter, fifteen 4-H’ers and 5 adults will be preparing for the 2015 Multi-county 4-

H camp in Lone Star. Camp activities include: Geocaching, Pillow Workshop, Electricity, Human Foosball, Ropes

course, Master Gardeners, and Canoeing/Kayaking. Participants from Hopkins County are:

Mariana Aguilar, Eric Bridges, Honesty Bridges, Braden Lennon, Wesley McDonald, Jace Mayers, Morgan Mayers,

Brayden Morris, Kassie Northcutt, Ki Northcutt, Haylee Schultz, Geoffrey Stewart, Kiara Stowater, Alexis Vil-

larino, and Joel Villarino. Adults are: Jeremy Bridges, Ruthie Mayers, Leah Larson, Johanna, & Mario. Have fun!!

Judged October 9, on display to public October 12 & 13 Entry categories: Art, baked goods, crafts, holiday, miniatures, canned goods, sewing/clothing, woodworking, photography, jewelry, horticulture, needlework, poetry, leather crafts, exhibit boards, scrapbooks, metal work, decorated clothing, dolls.

The Hopkins County 4-H Program will be holding the annual 4-H Achieve-ment Banquet on Saturday, August 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the League Street Church of Christ. The theme is: “Green Carpet Gala” Members will be recognized for their achievements throughout the year in-cluding record book and project form submission, Clover Kid participation

and graduation ceremony, Rookie of the Year, Outstanding Junior/Intermediate/Senior, project completion awards, leader recognition, Clover pin awards and 2015/2016 County Council officer installation. A dinner and slide show of the previous year’s activities will also be presented. Youth enrolled in the foods/nutrition projects will be preparing desserts at the Church at 10:00 a.m. The County Council officers and decoration committee will be setting up the day of the event at 12:00 p.m., if you wish to help.

Please come join us for this special night to recognize the efforts of our program’s youth and volunteers! Watch your mailbox for more information!

Creative Arts Contest—Fall Festival If you wish to enter items in the 2015 Creative Arts Contest held in Conjunction with Fall Festival , there are a couple of changes. Here are the details with changes: Where: Sulphur Springs High School Conference Center Enter items: Thursday, October 22, 4:00—6:00 p.m., Friday, Oc-

tober 23, 7:30-9:30 a.m. Judging will take place Friday morning, October 23

Items on display: Friday, October 243 1:00—5:00 p.m., and Satur-day, October 24, 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Best of Show pictures will be taken at 1:30 on Saturday. Items may be picked up start-ing at 1:45 p.m.

No charge for 4-H members! Contact the Extension Office for guidelines, list of entry classes and age divisions.

Our county 4-H Council President, Morgan Mayers, is requesting photos for the slide show

to be presented at the 4-H Achievement Banquet. If you have photos from camps, live-
