4-H CLOVER CONNECTIONS Volume 18, Issue 5 — September/October 2016
Dear 4-H Families, 2017 Enrollment, October 1st —January 15th Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make this 4-H year a great one! A special thank you goes especially to 4-H Club Leaders, livestock superintendents, Junior Leaders, and 4-H volunteers for the countless hours you contributed to the youth of Jackson County. Whether you volunteered at club meetings, helped with projects, planned a SPARK Club, worked project check-in, hosted workshops, cleaned the 4-H Building, worked in the 4-H Building, or spent countless hours in the livestock barns—I appreciate your help! Our 4-H program is successful because of our dedicated and selfless volunteers. Once again, Indiana 4-H online enrollment will open October 1, 2016 for the 2017 4-H program year. All 4-H’ers must enroll online by January 15, 2017. We will be sending out more information as these dates approach. Watch your mail and email closely for these important instructions. Be sure to read through the whole newsletter, as there are a lot of new opportunities for both youth and adults. If you are interested in becoming a 4-H volunteer, please email or call me to talk about filling out an application. Our program would not be possible without our dedicated 4-H volunteers. You might have noticed a name change. I married my 2003 4-H King, Grant VonDielingen, on July 30th. It’s still the same Heather here, just a new name! Sincerely,
Heather VonDielingen Extension Educator 4-H Youth Development

Did You Know?
VOLUME 18, ISSUE 5
Interesting Facts About 4-H
Did you know 4-H was formed because adults in the farming community (late 1800s) were reluctant to accept new agricultural developments? Researchers found that young people were open to new
thinking, would experiment with new ideas, and share their experiences with adults. Did you know the first 4-H club was formed in 1902 when A.B. Graham started a youth program in Clark
County, Ohio? The first club was called “The Tomato Club” or the “Corn Growing Club.” Did you know the Cooperative Extension System was created in 1914?
Did you know the words “Our World” weren’t added to the 4-H Pledge until the 1970s? Find out more about the history of 4-H by visiting www.4-H.org!
———————————————————————————————————————————————— Did you know we have an Expansion and Review Committee that looks for ways to expand 4-H
Programming in Jackson County? Did you know each 4-H club elects youth officers to run the meetings?
Did you know Jackson County 4-H offers over 70 projects youth can take? Did you know there are over 700 youth in Jackson County 4-H?
