When the batteries need replacing the remote control will stop work-ing and will require two (2) new "AA" alkaline batteries for continuedoperation. Once you remove the old batteries, program settings andcodes will be saved for 10 minutes, allowing adequate time to insertnew ones.

However, if you do not replace the batteries within the allotted time(e.g., 10 minutes), you will have to reprogram the remote control.

The remote control can control up to three different components andis already pre-programmed for use with newer Philips/Magnavoxaudio/video equipment. Unless you want to change a factory setting, skip the programming instructions and simply start using your newremote control.

Programming Other Components

To control component brands other than Philips/Magnavox, you’ll needto perform the following steps to manually program the remote withcodes listed under Manufacturer’s Codes on pages 28 through 37. Oras an alternative, you can use the Auto Scan feature, on page 5, to pro-gram your component codes.

The following chart lists the remote component keys and what type ofdevice each key will control:

Key Programmed to Control

VCR VCR or DVD

CBL Cable Box

AUD Amplifier/Receiver

NOTE: If you want the component keys to control other types ofdevices, you’ll need to reassign the component keys. See page 5.

IMPORTANT: Please completely read and review the followingsteps before proceeding. We recommend highlighting the codes (start-ing on page 28), for the brands you wish to program or writing themdown in the supplied chart.

Red Indicator Light does notblink when you press a key.

Replace the batteries with two(2) "AA" alkaline batteries (seePage 3).

The VOL+,VOL- and MUTEkeys are not functional.

Make sure that the volume con-trol is locked to a componentthat has volume capabilities and isprogrammed into the remotecontrol.

Red Indicator Light blinks whenyou press a key, but home enter-tainment component does notrespond.

Make sure you are aiming theremote control at your homeentertainment component andthat you are within 15 feet of thecomponent you are trying tocontrol.

The remote control does notcontrol home entertainmentcomponents or commands arenot working properly.

Try all listed codes for the com-ponent brand being set up. Makesure all components can be oper-ated with an infrared remotecontrol.

CH+, CH- and LAST do notwork for your RCA TV.

Due to an RCA design (1983-1987), only the original remotecontrol will operate these func-tions.

Changing channels does notwork properly.

If original remote controlrequired pressing ENTER tochange channels, to change chan-nels, press ENTER on theremote after entering a channelnumber.

Tried Auto Scan and still couldnot find a working code.

Try Auto Scan again after clearingout the component key as fol-lows: Press and hold SET untilRed Light blinks twice, thenrelease. Next enter 9-9-2. Thenpress and release the componentkey to be cleared twice.
