In France and generally in Europe, appellations are used to protect the origin the quality and the image of a product.

It overall protects its price.

Appellations are controlled in France by the INAO (institute national des appellations d’origine) and by the ministry of Agriculture. It is a serious matter with which nobody wants to come into conflict.
