FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome back to another exciting year at KPS! I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families this year. I hope that you find Kurrajong to be a caring and supportive community for you and your child.
There are many notes being sent out over the next week, with Stage 3 Camp, Swimming Carnival and various permissions notes heading your way. Be on the lookout! We have tried a ‘paperless’ approach to notes which worked well for the majority but quite a few slipped through the gap. It is vital to know what is going on at our school, that you install the eNews App on your device. It will give you quick links to everything you need.
THANK YOU
A big thank you to Year 6 of 2020 who donated this striking flag to our school as a farewell gift! We love it. We also love the early stage of our new outdoor learning area. The sandstone looks great!

MEET THE TEACHER’ SESSIONS
We are planning to hold our annual ‘Meet the Teacher’ Session on Thursday 11 February. The details of this evening are still being confirmed based on the current (COVID) situation. We will endeavour to get further information out to families as soon as possible. Sadly this year we cannot have our usual Welcome BBQ. If COVID restrictions change we will have a ‘get together’ later in the year
After much ado we are essentially back to the business of teaching and learning here at Kurrajong PS. You may or may not be aware that the number of classes we can form is based directly on the number of students who are enrolled from day one. We have about a week of ‘wiggle room’ before the numbers are confirmed with the Department of Education. This means that until the date our numbers are submitted class structures are ‘fluid’ and may possibly change from day to day.
I can assure you that a great deal of thought has gone into class placements and matching teachers with students based on current knowledge of our students.
STAFF & CLASSES
At Kurrajong Public School we are thankful for our staff team who work together to support our students. We are pleased to be welcoming one new staff member to our team; Miss Georgia Kennedy will be leading 1/2 Green. Mr Luke Brandjes has returned on a part time basis as a ‘Release from Face to Face’ teacher and Mrs Kerrie Stapleton joins our office staff full time, replacing Mrs Jenny Cook. Another warm welcome back to Mrs Lyn Ashton who will be a teacher support in classrooms and the office.
Managing stage-based classes requires skilled teachers. Teachers at Kurrajong Public School are well-versed and experienced in conducting programs in stage-based classes. Working in teams has certainly enhanced the opportunities provided to our students. Teachers ensure that our 21st Century students can develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to be life long learners.
If you would like any more information on our classes, class structures, or other aspects of school life at Kurrajong, please call the school and make an appointment to see me or one of our Assistant Principals:
Early Stage 1 & Stage 2: Mrs Franks Stage 1: Mrs Stirzaker Stage 3: Mr Wegg
STUDENT ABSENCES LATE ARRIVALS / EARLY LEAVERS
The school requires a written note from parents if a child is absent from school or is planning to be late or to leave early. This is to satisfy the NSW Department of Education regulations. To fulfil this obligation, please send an email to: [email protected] advising the reason for the absence or late arrival / early leaver OR use our School eNews App. COVID
A quick reminder to our new Kinder and Stage 1 parents and caregivers that it is a requirement for you to check in at the office using the QR code as well as signing the visitor book. We know it’s a nuisance but it is important for your child’s safety.
COMMUNICATING WITH TEACHERS
A classroom teacher’s priority is to be present while teaching students in class. In order for teachers to manage communication with families, the following expectations will assist us to ensure appropriate correspondence is answered in a timely manner. In the meantime, queries can be sent to [email protected]
Parents may email their child’s class teacher with a query about academic, behavioural or social concerns or to request an appointment. If the query is complex, the teacher will give you a call or request a meeting. Please note, emails are not checked or responded to during school hours (they will be addressed within 48 hours). KINDER 2021 Today I was lucky enough to have our 2021 Kindergarten students visit me in my office. They are an amazing group of boys and girls.

SOCIAL MEDIA EXPECTATIONS
As a school we utilise our Social Media in the following way.
Our Facebook Page is used to quickly relay information and celebrate the success stories around the school. It provides families with a little insight into the school life.
Our school Facebook page is not a forum for community members to post gripes, insults or defamatory messages. The school will happily answer any concerns from our community and explain the reason behind decisions. Any inappropriate comments will be deleted and the user risks banning from the platform.
The school App (eNews) is used for push notifications to get information quickly to parents. Parents must be subscribed! (Permission notes and Absence Notes can also be found here)
The See Saw App used by some classroom teachers to communicate class and stage specific information. SeeSaw is NOT used as a two-way communication tool at our school.
Please be responsible and respectful on school social media platforms.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP ARRANGEMENTS
Please ensure your child knows their pick-up arrangements for each day and contact the office in the event of an unforeseen change in plans. This should not be a regular occurrence. Please email the office at [email protected] to inform them about your child’s absence on a particular day. The message function on Dojo and SeeSaw is not to be used.
General information and updates can be found on our school newsletter and website. We look forward to a wonderful year ahead, celebrating learning and having fun along the way!
On behalf of the KPS Staff we look forward to a happy and positive 2021.
Warm regards,
Miss R

A huge thank you to the Emmerich family who took care of our school chickens over the holidays. We are so grateful that the girls were in such caring hands. An extra thank you for the new nesting boxes and roosts that Mr Emmerich built for them to be more comfortable in Cluckingham Palace.

SCHOOL BANKING
School banking day is
THURSDAY
Get involved in the School Banking program. Kurrajong Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way to help teach your child about money. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School
Banking deposit in the prior year. For more information about contribution payments, visit commbank.com.au/sbinfo.
The rewards available during 2021 are:
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is THURSDAY. Each week you need to give your banking to your class teacher.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2021 School Banking program parent guide from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
