COMMUN I T I E S F OR TH E BE T T ER .
Regardless of the specif ics , every candidate enters into the
pol it ical r ing with the determination to enact change . In
our current gossip - laden pol it ical culture , i t ’s often al l too
easy to forget the determination and bravery pushing an
agenda to a skeptical public requires ; the task can seem
more than a l i t t le daunting to those with minimal pol it ical
experience .
But running for off ice doesn 't need to feel out of reach .

A successful career in pol it ics doesn ’t need
to begin with a degree in government f rom
an Ivy League school or an internship with a
high - f ly ing Senator . While connections and
packed resumes certainly help establ ish
authority , candidacies are built on
ideas . Now more than ever , message and
personal ity takes precedence over resume
on the campaign trai l .

MESSAGE
Candidates need a strong message that
appeals to voters . Relat ively brief , this
platform should highl ight a candidate ’s
strengths and preferabi l i ty without seeming
boastful or crit ical of an opponent . Most
importantly , i t must be consistent ;
candidates need to seem stalwart and
trustworthy i f they want to succeed !

FUNDRA I S I NG CAMPA I GN
No candidate enjoys spending hours upon
hours fundrais ing , but the efforts are
necessary . Campaigns need money to run ;
according to Campaign Finance Inst itute ’s
analys is of Federal Election Commission , an
average senator ial race cost over $10 mill ion
in 2016 . The expense , of course , wil l vary
depending on the off ice , but the need for
fundrais ing ski l ls wil l always remain .

Sometimes televis ion has i t wrong . The day -
to -day workings of a pol it ical off ice are far
less Machiavel l ian than some f i lms might
suggest ; however , some aspir ing pol it ics st i l l
fear being drawn into the so -cal led “dark ”
s ide of pol it ics . However , that distaste for
corruption and machination i s exactly what
voters want in an honest candidate . No
candidate needs to s ink into dirty pol it ics in
order to get ahead !
Those who have ideas to better
their communit ies and the drive
to see them implemented
should make their voices heard
by throwing their proverbial hat
into the r ing . Obstacles abound
on the campaign trai l – but
successful polit ic ians have the
tenacity to overcome any
barr iers in their path to
leadership .
Launching a campaign
demands effort ,
determination , and passion

and veterans al ike .
