Mr Dominic McGrath
Dominic attended Omagh CBS between 2007 and 2014, studying alongside his twin brother Eoghan. He attended St Conor’s Primary School and grew up playing football for Omagh St. Endas. During his time at Omagh CBS, Dominic took part in various extracurricular activities including playing for the Brock and Rannafast Cup teams, as well representing the school at cross-country and athletics events. He also participated in the Bar Mock Trial Competition and the Young Enterprise Competition.
Both Dominic and his brother received several awards for academic success. Dominic was named the top student in English Literature at A Level in Northern Ireland, while Eoghan received the same honour for Mathematics. Dominic went from Omagh CBS to Trinity College Dublin, where he studied Law and Political Science. During his first year, he developed a passion for student journalism and joined The University Times - Ireland’s largest and most prestigious student newspaper. After becoming first News Editor and then Deputy Editor, Dominic was elected Editor of The University Times by Trinity College Dublin’s 17,000 students and ran the paper during a sabbatical year. During that year, he led the paper’s coverage of the 2018 referendum on the eighth amendment and secured the first print interview with the Minister for Higher Education. He also interviewed European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and several university presidents. In 2018, he was named Student Journalist of the Year. While completing his degree, Dominic also freelanced with the Irish Times, the Sunday Business Post and several other UK publications. Upon graduating in June 2019, he started work at TheJournal.ie - one of the best-read news sites in Ireland - where he largely focused on Brexit and Northern Irish politics. He has recently published investigations and long reads into the Covid-19 crisis in nursing homes, cross-border healthcare and Irish government’s new Shared Island Unit. In 2020, Dominic was named as Best Newcomer at the Law Society of Ireland’s Justice Media Awards. From November onwards, Dominic will be working as a Broadcast Journalist at BBC Radio Foyle.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS
Mr Patrick McMahon
Class of 2013- On behalf of our Board of Governors I pay special tribute to each of you for facing, with great resilience
and endurance, the challenges thrust upon you by the COVID 19 pandemic, by way of not being able to complete
your studies via the traditional route of examinations. This setback did not deter your ambitions to achieve and we
now congratulate you on your accomplishments in all aspects of your school life. These challenges remain for you as
you undertake further studies but we hope, in time, all these difficulties will pass to enable you to fulfil your career
aspirations. We wish you every success, whatever pathway you choose to travel in your lives, and hope that you will
always recall happy days at Omagh CBS with its Blessed Edmund Rice ethos of spiritual reflection and translation to
action, reaching out a helping hand to others in need.
Core to the communication and living out of this Blessed Edmund Rice ethos is the example of the teaching and non-
teaching staff of Omagh CBS whose dedication to the educational and personal development of their pupils is
exemplary. I thank them for the personal sacrifices they make on behalf of our pupils.
This has been the story also of how our community has dealt with COVID 19, so on our school’s behalf, I acknowledge
the fantastic responses from our school community, past and present, for the help they have given to all those who
have suffered through this time of crisis for this generation.
I encourage you all to remain in touch with each other beyond your school years and you are welcome to return to
share your story with a new generation of pupils. I had reason recently to share his class list with a former pupil who
enrolled as a first year in 1943. He vividly recalled treasured fond memories of his CBS contemporaries and had still
remained in touch with some of them over a lifetime.
I thank the parents and guardians of all our pupils for the support they have given beyond measure for their sons
throughout their years at the school. This contribution and example can never be underestimated.
I thank my fellow governors whose quiet voluntary work helps the Principal Mr McConnell lead the school as required
by DENI regulations.
I salute the decision taken by Mr McConnell and the staff to celebrate your achievements in this way now and the
tremendous work carried out by Mr Ciaran McBride and the staff to allow this virtual event to take place.
Class of 2013 - thank you for giving Omagh CBS the privilege to accompany you on your education journey. We hope
the spirit of Omagh CBS will remain with you and guide you in the decisions you have to make throughout your lives.
In conclusion, I ask you to keep in your prayers all those in our school family who have lost loved ones this year.

Blessed Edmund Rice Prayer O God, we thank you for the life of Blessed Edmund Rice. He opened his heart to Christ present in those oppressed by poverty and injustice. May we follow his example of faith and generosity. Grant us the courage and compassion of Blessed Edmund as we seek to live lives of love and service. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
