Walmart to join dairy processing business Walmart plans to build its own dairy processing plant in Indiana. Dean Foods, which now supplies the large retailer, downplayed the move. The Walmart decision is expected to impact 100 million gallons of private label uid milk. Dean Foods said it would not affect sales of national brands, like DairyPure and TruMoo. Roundup Ready alfalfa scrutinized in Canada Canadas National Farmers Union is urging the agriculture minister to take action to prevent the sale of Roundup Ready alfalfa seed in Canada. NFU also wants border controls implement-ed, preventing imports from the United States. The biotech alfalfa has been ap-proved for sale in Canada, but Forage Genetics International agreed to delay commercial sales. Forage Genetics In-ternational created and markets Round-up Ready alfalfa.

Mastitis tool approved For the rst time in history, the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine and Health Canada have simultaneously reviewed and approved a new animal health prod-uct. Imrestor is the rst product of its kind for the dairy industry. The Elanco Animal Health product reduces clinical mastitis by helping to restore the cows immune system.
