AcknowledgmentsWhen I read Dr. Frank Sulloway’s story in an article
from Smithsonian magazine, I was captivated. He spent51 hours on the lava of Santiago Island in the Galápagosin the year 2000 and my story is modeled after his. I amgrateful that he allowed me to pick his brain and to de-velop my characters based on his experiences.
Honest feedback builds a good story and I appreciateNelly Hughes, Cynthia Hitz, Kristy Placido, and MartinaBex for looking at the storyline and helping me drive itin the right direction.
Victor Riera, thank you for being my go-to for Ecua-dor and Galápagos questions and photos.
Thank you Carol and Pat for believing in my workand Jim, Aly, and Nick for putting up with the creativeprocess.

1me había enamorado - I had fallen in love

– ¡Hola, Harry! –le dijimos entusiasmados.
