3rd qatar bim user day - best practice in preparing an organization for bim
DESCRIPTION
Speaker: Waleed Hashem - Shifting to BIM - BIM Company challenges About the Qatar BIM User Day: Qatar University, HOCHTIEF ViCon and Teesside University proudly take the initiative to facilitate modern and innovative methods in the Gulf construction industry. The focus is Building Information Modeling (BIM), and our aim is to establish a knowledge platform with government, research and industry experts. The User Day aims to help people to share knowledge, discuss new technologies, and identify new potentials for BIM. More information: www.bimuserday.com Follow BUD on Twitter @bimuserdayTRANSCRIPT

FACTORS THAT CREATED A CHANGE
As part of research and development, It was crucial to
maintain our high competency in the corporate to
deliver specialized complex facilities.
We had to further investigate various options to
enhance our methods in delivering sophisticated
projects.
Specializing in the most complex building-types
such as hospitals, laboratories, education and
research buildings.
Managing complexity in work processes, various
user groups, goods flow, people movement as
well as installation and services.
Handling growing amount of information in a
shorter time throughout the whole lifespan of a
project.

CHALLENGES
Support by Internal Branches and
Subsidiaries to Each Other
As we function hand in hand to support
each other in various projects worldwide,
there should always be a unity in the ways
projects are delivered.
Training of Personnel
Provide intensive training to personnel to a
level that enables them to deliver projects
successfully.

80% of total cost. Therefore, we
strongly emphasize on concept
design and early preliminary design
stage to meet all upcoming
requirements.
- Enables us to assist the Client from
the very beginning to define the
expected budget and real cost of the
intended project, therefore, increases
our chances of award.

Clash Detection Matrix
- Awareness of the Client about the importance of BIM in
reducing time and money during design/construction.
- Client requested that we manage a clash detection
model for the facility prior to the award of the contractor.
- Client reviewed all clash reports to ensure a clash free
model in order to proceed with construction.

The change to using BIM had significant changes on our projects set
up. It encouraged us to re-visit and improve our methods in
delivering projects.
Effective implementation of BIM enabled us to maintain our high
quality projects while adding real value to the design and construction
process.
Positive results shown in our projects i.e Al-Ain Hospital raised the
awareness of the Client about the importance of this technology and
encouraged them to experiment its advantages further..

"Creativity, as has been said,
consists largely of rearranging what
we know in order to find out what
we do not know. Hence, to think
creatively, we must be able to look
afresh at what we normally take for
granted."
— George Kneller
