Care and Cleaning

Clean as needed after use.

Helmet Shell1. Clean with mild soap and water using a soft brush or cloth.2. Rinse thoroughly in clean water.3. Allow to air dry either indoors or in shade, away from heat sources.

Suspension (pads) and Retention Systems1. Remove pads and retention system from helmet

(see removal and installation instructions on following page).2. Hand wash with a mild detergent.3. Allow to air dry either indoors or in shade, away from heat sources.

Figure 9

A small brush is useful in removing dirt from the hook disks (item 1 in Figure 9) on the inside of the shell. Keeping the hook and loop clean will help to maintain the ability of the pads to stick to the inside of the helmet.

Inspection for Damage

• Inspect helmet prior to and following each use.• Inspect the exterior of the shell for any visual dents. If any dents

are found, remove the suspension pads and retention system and inspect the interior of the shell for a corresponding inside dent. If a corresponding interior dent is identified the helmet should be replaced. Failure to observe this precaution could result in serious injury or death to personnel.

• Inspect the exterior of the helmet for any major scratches or gouges in the surface of the helmet. Any scratch or gouge that exposes white fibers would indicate the need for helmet replacement. Failure to observe this precaution could result in serious injury or death to personnel.

• Inspect the hook and pile attachment pads for the suspension system, retention system and exterior pile pads for a secure bond to the helmet surface. Peeling or delaminating pads should be replaced with new pads.

• Inspect the screws that attach the accessory side rail to the helmet. Ensure that they are snug and have not had the threads stripped.

• Inspect the NVG shroud to ensure it is tight and secure to the helmet.

Failure to inspect the helmet, identify problems and take corrective action, as described in the section, "Inspection for Damage," could result in serious injury or death to personnel.

Removal and Installation of Suspension System Pads

Removal: The retention pads are held in place with hook and loop fastener. They can be removed from the helmet by slowly peeling the edges of the pad up and away from the helmet.Installation: (refer to Figure 10 for pad placement)1. Place round center pad centered in the “crown” of the helmet with

the loop (fuzzy) side toward the hook coins.2. Install remaining pads with the larger rectangular pads at the front

and rear of the helmet.3. Place the helmet on head and check for fit and make any minor pad

placement adjustments necessary for comfort.4. When satisfied with fit and comfort firmly push the pads down onto

the hook disks to ensure complete engagement of the hood and loop fastener.

Removal and Installation of Retention System (continued)

1. Place helmet upside down on your lap while seated and lay the retention system across the helmet to eliminate strap twisting. Orient the nape pad toward the back of the helmet.

If your helmet has a 3M X-Back retention system, proceed to Step 4.2. Place the front retention plastic strap on the front interior of the helmet

while keeping it centered on the helmet. The strap should be placed such that it just covers the edges of the hook coins. See Figure 12.

3. Once in place and satisfied with the positioning, ensure the complete engagement of the hook and loop fastener by firmly pushing in the strap down in the area of the hook coins.

4. Insert the two rear anchor clips into the rear slots and push firmly in until you hear an audible click.

5. Repeat Step 4 for the remaining two front anchor clips. Your helmet should look like Figure 13 when complete.

6. Reinstall remaining suspension system pads as described in the section on the previous page.

Inserting and Removing the Picatinny Adapter from Accessory Rail

1. To install the Picatinny Adaptor, squeeze the locking tabs (Items 1 in Figure 14) toward each other.

2. While continuing to squeeze the locking tabs together, slide the adaptor onto dovetail of the accessory rail to its approximate desired position. (See Figure 15)

3. Release the locking tabs and slide the Picatinny adaptor slightly forward or backward until it locks into place.

4. To remove the adaptor, squeeze the locking tabs together to release the adaptor and slide the adaptor off of the accessory rail.

Figure 15Figure 14

You may find it easier to release the adaptor locking tabs by squeezing one end first and then adding the other end, rather than trying to squeeze both tabs in simultaneously.
