Consecration of Canada - presented by Fr. John Torrance

In order to express love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Fatherrecently published a letter addressed to all faithful for the month of May. In this

encouraging letter, and in light of the restrictions in place as a result of theCoronavirus pandemic, Pope Francis invites everyone to pray the Rosary at home and

offers two prayers to be recited at its conclusion.https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2020-04/letter-on-the-month-of-may-

CONSECRATION OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF MONTREAL - MAY 1 Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, clearly spent her life trusting in faith completely. She persevered in prayer and remained faithful to the end; namely, to the Cross. Itwas at the foot of the Cross that Jesus named her Mother of the Church: “Woman, here is your son,” and presented her to us as our Mother, “Here is your mother.” (John 19:26-27)

This title, which is drawn from the Gospel and whose usage dates back to the fourth century, was given prominence by Pope Paul VI and the Second Vatican Council. More recently, in 2018, Pope Francis designated the Monday after Pentecost as the Feast of "Mary, Mother of the Church".

As part of the resources developed for the 2017 Marian consecration of Canada, the CCCB developed a document entitled Consecrating Canada to the Blessed Virgin MaryInsights for Adult Catechesis, providing helpful answers to gain a deeper spiritual understanding of the nature and significance of a Marian consecration. https://www.cccb.ca/site/images/stories/pdf/

MESSAGE FOR THE FIRST OF MAY 2020

Energy Transition: Workers are Part of the SolutionFor its traditional May 1st message, the Church and Society Council of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Quebec published a text entitled The Energy Transition: Workers are Part of the Solution. This message was published on Earth Day, April 22, 2020. In the face of climate change, the Council invites the population and institutions to take the necessary measures to ensure that the

transition to the use of green energy is gradual and with a constant concern for justice. In accordance with the teachings of Christ Jesus, it is essential to take care of those who are most impoverished and most affected by the changes we will experience in the coming years. To facilitate the appropriation of this message, four questions are submitted for the readers' reflection, to go further. https://evequescatholiques.quebec/sn_uploads/fck/CES---1mai2020-EN.pdf

DIGITAL 55TH ANNUAL NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST For 55 years, the National Prayer Breakfast has met on parliamentary grounds, making it the longest-running parliamentary event. This year, the organizing committee has been forced to make the difficult decision to cancel the in-person event due to the ongoing public health emergency. COVID-19 affects all Canadians. Its impact will be felt in the near future and for years to come. That is why I believe the National Prayer Breakfast is all the more important. I’m pleased to announce that this year’s National Prayer Breakfast will be steamed live on http://nationalprayerbreakfast.ca, YouTube and Facebook at the same date and time:

Thursday, May 7, 2020, 10:00 a.m. EDT

We will be joined by several special guests, including:

Bill Adsit - Member of the Tahltan Band and residential school survivor Joy Smith - Educator, human rights champion, and former MP The Hon. Graydon Nicholas, CM, ONB - Former Lt. Gov. of New Brunswick Music from the Rising Above Band …and other special guests

I invite you to tune-in on May 7th for a time of worship and prayer for Canada. A major focus of this year’s program will be blessing and encouraging our Indigenous brothers and sisters in Christ. The National Prayer Breakfast welcomes those of all faiths, facilitating an opportunity to observe Christian traditions and tenets. No registration or fee is required to watch the event. However, I invite you to let me know you plan on joining us by confirming your attendance on the Facebook event page. As you are well aware, Canadians come together in times of crisis. Since 1964, the National Prayer Breakfast has been an opportunity to gather at the heart of Canada’s democracy to lift up national leaders of all kinds, our brave men and women in uniform, and our fellow Canadians in need. This year is no different. Sincerely, Cathay Wagantall, MP for Yorkton—Melville Chair, National Prayer Breakfast of Canada

SASMAD: Spiritual support service for the elderly or sick at homeOpen 7 days a week, from 10 am to 4 pm at : 1-888-305-0994UPDATED information from Anita and Rev. Barry Mack from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in St. Lambert.Their church (building) is where the Ecumenical Community Services - Food Cupboard is located This food is distributed to the needy in St. Lambert and Ville Lemoyne. Here is what they need: (not Costco sizes as many of the recipients are single, majority men and living alone and don't cook) canned vegetables; canned fruit / applesauce; peanut butter (again not large size); loafs of bread (they can freeze them); canned meals; frozen meals (already to go) - again they can freeze them. They have drivers (who live under the same roof) and shoppers who go once a month to see what is missing (but the stores right now are not allowing stalking up of quantities)If you can help with donations please call at the church 450-671-1862 and leave a message, or at the Presbytery 450-923-0794.Each delivery of food to the recipients includes a pamphlet/card that Anita produced with a message (attached).A heart-felt thanks from the ECS Team to the supporters and volunteers for their generous donations to the Foodbank. Thank you also to the members of St. Francis church who (quietly) already volunteer their time regularly to the ECS. You are very much appreciated and recognized for your generosity and time.

It was great to receive all those Foodbank Favourites - from the the smaller sized peanut-butters, the canned meals, soups & vegetables (and much more!) to that symbol of the current Covid crisis: toilet-paper, a huge package! Warmest regards, Anita

HOPE helps in Greenfield Park/Lemoyne/ Brossard/St-Hubert Persons are to call 450-693-0262 and follow the instructions on the bilingual message.Calls and visits will be replied to from Monday to Friday but we do deliver on weekends. It may take up to 48 hours so please do not wait until you have little food left. We are currently using the same volunteers as before. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate new volunteers at this time as training would prove to be too risky. The person will be contacted by phone before the visitors leave: so the recipient must be home. Food deliveries will only be brought to the persons door. Volunteers will not enter . The recipient must arrange to take the items in. Volunteers will be waiting from inside their car and will call the person when the food is delivered. The volunteer will wait in their car until the food has been picked up and brought in before leaving.Visitors will NOT be going to the store to pick up any items. Donations of food, and monetary gifts are welcomed so call and leave a message so arrangement can be made. Remember HOPE is a small community-based volunteer organization so while they want to help, they cannot be over loaded …so please share this info. just among your interested contacts and churches etc. Do not widely share on Facebook and media
