WHO WE ARE
Richard Wilson - Director
Richard began his surveying career 22 years ago before moving to
Central Queensland in 1995 to work in the mining, exploration and
construction industries. Wilson Survey Group Pty Ltd was established
in 1998 to meet the needs of local businesses.
Richard is involved in all aspects of 3d Automated Data Solutions and
oversees the quality control and assurance on all projects. He is in
direct communication with all parties involved in all projects and his
ability to communicate effectively with clients and his attention to detail
makes Richard a strong asset to 3dADS.
Phil Davies – Operations Manager
With a career spanning more than 20 years, Phil has a wealth of knowledge in both
surveying and civil design processes. He has worked extensively in road construction and
mining and has been heavily involved in product development and manufacturing in
Australia and throughout Africa, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.
Phil’s exceptional range of skills, coupled with his ability to look at the fine details in any
project, make him an ideal person to have managing any 3dADS project. He is a crucial
member of our management team and is tireless in his efforts to ensure the success of any
project with which he is involved
Noel Burton – Technical Services Manager
Noel has over 30 years of field and management experience in surveying on
both mining and civil projects worldwide. Noel has vast experience in
providing Civil & Survey software training and support. Combined with his
associated data processing, and customisation of both office and field
procedures, he has proven to be invaluable in providing successful project
outcomes.

HOW WE STARTED
3d Automated Data Solutions (3dADS) specialises in off-site survey and design data management. The company was formed in response to a market demand relating to end-of-project auditing issues. Very often, principals and contractors would be at odds over volumes and claims – sometimes arising from the involvement of multiple contractors and sub-contractors, sometimes caused by last minute design changes, sometimes the result of not using the correct models for all layers at each stage of the project. The need for consistent, uniform and accurate data became increasingly obvious. This is a need that 3dADS is endeavouring to meet by
providing clients with a ‘one stop’ data management option or a
‘cradle to grave’ approach on any given project. In doing so,
surveyors are freed of their ‘data burden’, enabling more field
time and a better use of their expertise.
With offices in Toowoomba, Emerald and Canberra, the 3dADS
team consists of Survey and Machine Automation specialists,
each with over 20 years’ experience in Surveying, Design and

the use of 12d Model Software. The team has variously
worked in the fields of road and railway construction,
mining and airport infrastructure and residential
subdivisions.
3dADS can manage all your design and survey data
remotely, thus reducing the cost of multiple onsite personnel
and considerably reducing planning and execution time.
We can commence working on project data using your
tender information and later refine the detail once Issued-
for-Construction drawings and specifications are released.
As revisions to the design are ongoing, 3dADS has the capability to upload all new
revisions directly onto the machines in the field, thus ensuring that all operators are
working with the latest available data.
Clear and Grub extents can be loaded onto the machines prior to their arrival on site,
allowing the operator to go straight to work, thereby eliminating considerable standby
time.
OFFSITE DATA MANAGEMENT
3dADS has on staff some of the most qualified surveyors in
the market, boasting more than 20 years’ experience in this
field. We take the data from the designer (in either digital or
paper format) and produce the files required by the various
Machine Control manufacturers (Leica, Topcon, Trimble or
ABS).
We have developed meticulous procedures for interrogating
the design data before it leaves the office to ensure that the
original design and the finished product are fully aligned.
MACHINE CONTROL DESIGN MODELS
3dADS has a comprehensive working knowledge of all major
survey instruments and good working relationships with their
respective suppliers. All survey data models can be supplied in
requested formats i.e. Leica, Topcon and Trimble.
As with the Machine Automation data models, we provide design
surfaces for every layer of the pavement construction. This
enables field surveyors to easily conform all surfaces and
reduces potential errors when offsets are applied to finished
design surfaces in the field.
CONVENTIONAL SURVEYING DESIGN MODELS In our experience, disputes relating to quantity variation stem from not using
the correct models for all layers i.e. different start surfaces, not the latest
design surface revision and uncommon lot boundaries.
3dADS has extensive experience in managing and conducting Third Party
Audits arising from project design models or monthly as-constructed
quantities.
By validating all quantity claims on a regular basis and dealing with issues as
they arise, major disputes are minimised.

CAPABILITIES STATEMENT
3dADS’ primary focus is to provide accurate design models for all Machine Automation systems and Engineering Survey equipment. By managing and producing
accurate digital design models, we can also validate and quantify all materials listed in the Project Bill of Quantities (BoQ). 3dADS ensures your BoQ is consistent with
pre-strip surface and design information allowing for the early identification of potential variations and eliminating the risk in lump sum bids.
VOLUME VERIFICATION
3dADS will take the stress of end-of-month volume validation away from the surveyor in the field by managing their pickup data and comparing it to
both the previous month and the finished design to give an accurate volume quantity, whilst at the same time, confirming the conformance of the
construction.
