You will require a battery operated candle, and optionally, a piece of plain vellum or parchment paper. (See the samples below).

DO NOT use an ordinary open flame candle.

You can achieve different looks with your luminary depending on whether

you use vellum or lattice in the “window”. I have shown some of these

options and have provided the necessary pieces in the kit to give you a

choice. Please decide before printing whether you want to use vellum or

lattice.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN – please note these options:

OPTION 1: Print on vellum for luminary

windows. For this option you will

need to print the “vellum panels” on plain translucent

vellum or parchment paper.

OPTION 2: Make your own lattice with the

lattice guide and strips of paper for the

windows. For this option you will

use the lattice guide and cut strips of paper

about 3mm wide.

OPTION 3: Use die cut lattice for the

window. For this option you will need to have access to a die cutting machine

(like a Cuttlebug or Bigshot) and an

appropriate die. Use plain paper to cut two

panels of lattice.

OPTION 4: emboss a piece of vellum for the

window. For this option you will

need to access to a machine (like a

Cuttlebug or Bigshot), an embossing folder

and some plain vellum or parchment paper. Emboss two panels.

1. Print two of the luminary cover and one copy of the decoupage sheet.

2. If you choose option 1 as shown above you will need to print the “vellum panels” (on translucent vellum, paper or parchment paper).

3. If you choose options 2, 3 or 4 you might wish to print the “vellum panels” on plain paper (or vellum if you like) to use as a liner in the centre of the card (see the sample picture in Option 3). You can use the “vellum panels” with the centre cut out to attach inside the luminary and have no white showing anywhere.

4. Score the lines marked on both copies

of your luminary cover. 5. Cut out the oval in each piece.

6. EITHER print (or emboss) your vellum or print the lattice guide and strips on plain paper.

7. If you are making lattice proceed as follows:

a. You can cut the oval guide out and attach the strips to the frame or

b. you can place it behind the luminary cover and attach the strips directly to the wrong side of the cover.

8. Place your strips over the guide and attach the ends to the wrong side of your panel or cover.

9. Be careful not to get any tape over the open

areas in the lattice.

10. Whether you have attached the strips to the separate frame or directly to the back of the cover, you now need to make a crease down the centre of the oval.

11. Using either your vellum or lattice, attach to

the wrong side of each luminary cover piece (centred over the aperture).

12. Attach the left and right panels of the covers back to back.

13. Attach your decoupage pieces and greeting label.

The luminary itself will fold flat to a size of approx. 14cm x 15.5cm. Please ensure that your recipient knows NOT TO USE a normal open flame candle with the luminary. Battery operated LED candles are available very cheaply at most stores which stock craft supplies. A matching envelope sized to fit the folded-flat luminary is included. Instructions are on the sheet.
