Dear Family,

Serving as President and CEO of 3ABN for 24 years, I was relieved when the Lord sent Jim Gilley to fulfill that role and give me a sabbatical rest from the constant administrative pressures. While I continued to host programs, serve as a consultant, and travel for 3ABN, I was privileged to produce seven special music projects during that time.

Although Jim publicly stated he was here to “hold Danny’s hands up” until I was “ready to take over the helm once again,” I honestly didn’t intend to return to the “helm” unless it was clearly the Lord’s will. It was, and God has filled me with new vision and energy. I wake up excited every day, thanking God for giving us a tool to reach the world with the undiluted three angels’ messages.

Prophetic events are happening around the world, and we can’t continue “business of usual.” The recent Supreme Court decision redefining marriage has trampled on the law of God and paved the way for the national Sunday law. I don’t have a reputation as an alarmist, but the judgments of God are sure to fall quickly!

It’s our privilege to be light bearers to a lost and dying world. Soon we will air a weekly “Town Hall” type program with a panel of guests discussing current events and doctrinal topics. We hope you are already enjoying our new “3ABN Family Worship” program, designed to help you bring in the Sabbath.

We’ve also intensified our focus on “The Blessing Is on the Go!” I’m asking each of you to prayerfully consider joining the “GO!” Evangelistic Team! Find out how to become a team member within the covers of this magazine.

May the Lord richly bless you abundantly more than you could ever ask or think!

Although Three Angels Broadcasting Network has been correspond-ing with inmates for many years,

recently we have increased our outreach efforts considerably with the formation of our Prison Ministries Department.

Pastor Brian Hamilton and his wife Diane sat down with us to talk about his new responsibilities as manager of this department, and about bringing God’s message of hope to those who have lost their freedom.

3ABN World: Brian and Diane, can we begin by asking you how you got involved in prison ministry?

Brian Hamilton: Well, we’ve been working here at 3ABN for seven years now— Diane has been working with our Trust Services Department, and I’ve been serving as 3ABN’s Chief Financial Officer. But before this, I’d worked for the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 22 years in pastoral, administra-tion, human resources, and treasury positions.

Then, about a year after we came here, tragedy struck our family, and as a result, our son was incarcerated.

In all the years I’d served as a pastor, I’d never been in a prison, but suddenly, we were forcibly introduced to a whole new world where there was a huge population in need of ministry! Here were people who had lost everything there is to lose in life—jobs, careers, possessions, their

family, even their dignity. There was just a lot of hurt, and we were hurting parents, too.

The first few times we went in to see our son, we recognized many others who were in pain, and the Lord laid on us a burden to comfort them. In doing so, we were comforted, too.

Back home, a nearby Seventh-day Adventist pastor, Florin Liga, had started weekly services in a local state prison and

Pastor Steve Nelson (who had worked at 3ABN) and his wife Samantha were assisting.

Since Steve was very busy tending to the needs of five churches, I was invited to come; and later, when Pastor Liga had to drop out, we began recruiting members from other area churches.

The Lord blessed our efforts and soon we had requests from another nearby state prison, and then another from the federal penitentiary. We were also blessed to work with a Christian lieutenant at the local county jail, and were allowed to pass out gift bags provided by Lemuel Vega’s ministry, Christmas Behind Bars.

When we asked the lieutenant if they had a need for religious services, he told us the women’s unit did, so we’ve been going in there for the last four years.

World: What a blessing you have been to the local prisoners. But how did the 3ABN Prison Ministries Department idea come about?

Brian: 3ABN has corresponded with inmates and provided them spiritual materials through the mail for quite some time. Grace Yost and her helpers have been working through the Pastoral Ministries Department, and our corre-spondence program continues to grow. When 3ABN programming is added to a prison’s cable lineup, we suddenly get a whole bunch of letters—and once a pris-oner discovers that we’ll write back and send them Bible studies or Bibles, word spreads quickly throughout the facility. In a similar way, when Christmas Behind Bars goes into a prison, their gift bags contain information about 3ABN, so we

get another avalanche of letters. But getting back to your question,

one of the first things Danny did when he was re-elected president was to set up our new department, and we’ve accepted his challenge.

World: That is quite a challenge, Brian, considering you still hold your position as CFO. Tell us about some of your plans for this new department.

Brian: We’re working closely with 3ABN’s Marketing Department as they get 3ABN programming into a growing number of prisons in the United States. Our goal is to put 3ABN, Dare to Dream, 3ABN Latino, and 3ABN Proclaim! into every prison. The Lord has blessed, and we’re already in most of the prisons in Michigan, and well on our way to being launched in every prison in Oregon and California. Cable providers for prisons in Indiana, Kentucky, and southern Illinois have already approved 3ABN for their cable lineups, too.

Our next goal is to work with churches near the prisons that already have 3ABN,

and assisting them in starting their own prison ministry.

We’ll train them, coach them, and work with them on making contact with the prison officials, since it’s a little intimidat-ing at first. Then we’ll work with them to increase awareness of 3ABN’s program-ming among the inmates through music concerts, revival services, and gift bags from Christmas Behind Bars. Prisons seem quite open to gift bags, which contain toiletries, snacks, spiritual literature, Bible studies, and information about 3ABN and the local Adventist ministry serving their prison.

World: That’s wonderful! But I under-stand you also have other ideas to help get 3ABN into the prisons.

Brian: Yes, many of the lower security prisons now allow inmates to have specially designed tablets and purchase programming for a minimal cost. These companies are interested in a variety of our programs—from biblical history to cooking, and from health programs to religious services. We’re working to get them programming that will make a difference in the lives of the inmates.”

World: What are the needs for your department?

Brian: We envision that our financial needs for this area of 3ABN’s ministry will grow as we begin to provide liter-ature, study Bibles, and other materials for the prisons. We encourage anyone who has a heart for this to designate an offering for prison ministry. (See below on how to contact Brian.)

World: Have any of the inmates you’ve worked with been baptized?

Diane Hamilton: Yes, in fact, we’ve had probably a dozen or so baptisms right here locally—and eight more are ready! The federal penitentiary has even agreed to buy a portable baptismal tank, since the first men were baptized in a laundry cart!

Brian: I think of a man who came to our service so he could be in an air conditioned room. He wouldn’t talk, and was obviously not interested in the service, but he came for about six months, and then disappeared. A number of months later, we scheduled a concert there, and once again, he showed up. We remembered and called him by name, which really amazed him! As a result of that concert, and the Lord working on his heart, he’s been attending ever since and takes an active part in our service every week. He exerts spiritual leadership

among the men, and is a totally changed man. If God can change that tough man, He can change anyone!

Diane: Most of them have no family anymore, and because we care about them, they look up to us as parents. They thank us regularly, and they pray for us—that we be granted safety as we travel back and forth to see them. They say, “You don’t know how much this means to see you every week.”

Brian: It’s not unusual to find some-one there who hasn’t received so much as a letter for ten or twelve years. They sense that we accept them, while society rejects them as if they were lepers. And when someone shows them the spirit of forgiveness, love, and acceptance, they respond. We come away blessed, and numbers of them write to 3ABN regularly and avail themselves of our materials. And believe me, they’re the best advertising we have! We regularly have new visitors coming to check us out, and we come away blessed by the realization that this is just one more way to evangelize. Those who are incarcerated are desperate for God’s love and His truth, and those who take the message into the prisons know firsthand that the blessing is definitely on the “Go!”

God is at work! New enthusiasm abounds at 3ABN, generated by The Blessing is on the

“GO!” Evangelistic Team initiative. This revitalized emphasis on Present Truth Evangelism—the very mission of 3ABN—features a new focus on involving you as our evangelistic team members. Our goal is a person-to-person sharing of the everlasting gospel and the t h r e e a n g e l s ’ m e s s a g e s o f Revelation 14.

When the initiative was officially launched on the 3ABN Today “Behind the Scenes” program, 3ABN president, Danny Shelton, and others cast the vision

of the “GO!” Evangelis-tic Team (G.E.T.). This global outreach group recognizes the Second Coming of our Lord is soon and accepts indi-vidual responsibility to share the gospel with others. Within a few days of sending our “G.E.T. Ready, G.E.T. Set, G.O.” e-mail to our viewers and listeners,

over 500 people responded to the urgency of the hour, and hundreds continue to join each week!

Simple Tools That Work“Most Christians recognize that time is

short, and we each have an obligation to warn others and fulfill the Great Gospel

Commission,” Danny says. “Folks see the urgent need for evan-gelism, but often don’t have any idea how they can take part. Now we will provide a way so

simple that anyone—from age 9 to 90—can participate by sharing 3ABN’s evan-gelistic tool of the month with a relative, friend, or neighbor, and by praying!”

We are praying for God’s guidance as we develop new team resources. Please pray for our new grace-oriented, Christ-cen-tered Bible study series already under development that will offer a careful study of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Sev-enth-day Adventist Church and the three angels’ messages of Revelation 14.

3ABN is also planning to sponsor evan-gelistic series around the world in places where church growth is stagnant, led by our World Evangelism director, Pastor John Lomacang (more on that soon).

Please pray for our new

grace-oriented, Christ-

centered Bible study series

already under development.

applied for licenses; and when another window opened in 2013, more people applied. But these folks are different!

Michael: Yes. Many people contacted us, but others have just come out of the blue. For example, Nikki may get a call from someone who’s already well into the process, she transfers them to me, and I’ve never heard of them. Or Nikki opens the mail one day and there’s a signed 3ABN Radio agreement no one knew anything about!

Many of 3ABN Radio’s pioneers are now assisting the new applicants, too. They’re an invaluable resource to them—and to us.

Something is happening with our newest 3ABN Radio affiliates, so recently we sat down with 3ABN

Radio engineer, Michael Babb, and 3ABN Radio administrative assistant, Nikki Anderson, to talk about it.

3ABN World: I understand there’s something you’ve both noticed about the new radio affiliate applicants and owners these days. Tell us about it.

Nikki Anderson: Well, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) began accepting applications for new Low Power FM (LPFM) station construction permits back in the early 2000s. It was a new thing, and it was exciting; but while a few of those applicants were confident, most of them were rather timid.

Michael Babb: There were a lot of rules and regulations; and truthfully, we were barely ahead of them in the learning process! We were still a bit unsure of what equipment to recommend, and the choices weren’t nearly what they are today.

Nikki: Originally designed to train peo-ple in broadcasting, over the years, LPFM stations became a means of giving a “voice” to people in their communities. So when the FCC opened that application window, many 3ABN supporters and churches

Nikki: I think they’ve been reading about us in 3ABN World magazine, or heard Jay giving annual reports on televi-sion. When God calls them, they respond quickly, because they believe time is short!

Mike: In the past, many would wait until their construction permits were about to expire before calling for help, but that doesn’t happen. Those applicants seemed to take big steps of faith in ordering the equipment. But these new ones are driven by drastic changes in society, so their first priority is, “Let’s just get this message out.”

Nikki: Another change is in the number of full-power affiliates coming on. Strong Tower Radio Network is a good example. They started with one unlicensed micro station, transmitting less than one watt, in Decatur, Illinois. And today, six years later, they run five full-power stations and two translator stations across Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Also, in Australia and New Zealand, the stations keep coming, and now churches can own five or six and are forming their own networks, while still carrying our programming. God knows where He needs a small station or a full-powered one, and His people are answering His call.

Michael: Our affiliates’ trust is amazing. They tell me, “Mike, whatever you tell me to get, that’s what I’ll buy.” That’s a heavy responsibility, sometimes. But as Danny Shelton says, “If anything brings good results, God gets the credit; and if anything bad results, I’ll take the blame.” We’re so blessed to be working in a cutting edge

ministry and to see God constantly open-ing new doors. Also, since I’m the engineer for our local station, WDQN FM 95.9, I get a different perspective. It’s so good when someone walks in the door of our church and says, “I’m here because I heard about you on 3ABN Radio.” I’m humbled that the Lord is using me, and that what we’re doing isn’t in vain.

Nikki: Our 3ABN Radio pioneers are still very active and many are involved with the newer ones. They’re all truly a part of the 3ABN Radio family, and although they don’t see each other much, they take care of each other—just as God takes care of them all.

Yes, something is happening; and God keeps them all growing and thriving. They never cease to inspire me, and I never tire of telling them that!

viewers and listeners, and we’ve learned that under God’s clear leading, we must step out in faith—even when the funds are not there. Over and over again, we’ve trusted Him, and He has supplied all the funds we’ve needed. But now I began imagining the day when all our equipment needs would be solved. If a new TV or radio station was needed, no problem—we’ would already have the funds if two gold mines were at our disposal.

But, one question kept nagging at me. Is this the way it’s supposed to happen? Wouldn’t the need for faith be eliminated?

Finally, I decided that if this was God’s will, then Jesus Christ must be coming sooner than we thought, and the preaching of the gospel would need to be over quickly. With instant access to all the funds we needed, 3ABN might purchase radio and TV stations all over the world to reach the millions of people who still hadn’t heard the gospel.

The following Monday a package arrived with two small pieces of rock, embedded with golden metal. Is it gold? Is it true? After Pastor Gilley looked it over, he said, “I don’t know for sure, John. It could be, but have Bruce Chance in our 3ABN Donations Department get it tested to be sure.”

I handed the pieces to Bruce and told him the story. As he listened, he poured a few drops of a liquid onto the little rock.

A moment later he said, “Well, this is interesting. If this test proves to be true, this piece has 17 karat gold on it. However, the only way to be sure is to send it to a lab.”

As God would have it, the metal turned out to be pyrite—a shiny yellow metal often referred to as fool’s gold, and only He knows if 3ABN will ever receive a large sum of funds to bring the gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people in a short time, but in the meantime, we’ll advance according to the pace God sets today!

We don’t have a moment to lose, and every donation, large or small, continues to bless millions of people each day. Thank you for your prayers and financial support that makes this a reality.

a small portion to help his family. Of course, I told her I needed to discuss

this matter with our administration, and that eventually we would need to meet with

her friend, visit the mines, and verify his ownership of the land. I also told her that

attorneys would need to be involved to make sure everything was done accord-

My curiosity was piqued, and as the call ended, several thoughts went through my

together! In fact, I was indignant when my friend, Yolanda Palmer, told me that acupuncture was of the devil.

How dare she tell me that? I thought.Haven’t I spent the last several years studying it for myself? What so satanic about it, anyway?

However, from the time she told me my career was not of God, I had a sense of unrest in my spirit. Was I being deceived? I had to find out.

I often refer to Jeremiah 29:11 on Dare to Dream’s flagship program, Urban Report. It says, “For I know the

thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” How beau-tiful to know that the Lord thinks about

each of us with thoughts that give us a future and a hope! Sometimes the path we’re following is not the God-ordained path we should be on. I know about this first-hand!

DeceivedJust prior to coming to 3ABN,

I’d been practicing Traditional Chi-nese Medicine (TCM), and because

I was a Sabbath-keeping, Bible-be-lieving Christian, I thought I had it all

Sure, there were a few things I’d heard in TCM school that made me uncom-fortable, but I’d just swept them under the rug. For example, only a limited amount of information about the Five Shen had been shared with us in school, so I really didn’t think much about it. But as I researched it, I discovered the roots of TCM were based in Taoism (an Eastern religion)—and that confirmed that TCM is incompatible with Christian teachings!

Taoism expert, Elizabeth Renninger, wrote: “The Five Shen are the spirits associated with each of the body’s five yin organ-systems (Heart, Kidney, Spleen, Liver and Lungs). The origin of the Five-Shen system is found within the Shangqing lineage of Taoist practice. Each of these spirits has a connection not only with a yin organ and its associated element, but also with the energy of a planet and a direction. To ‘wake up’ the Shen of the organs is similar to ‘calling in the spirits’ for a shamanic ritual.”

That statement is loaded with anti-Christian values! Spirits? Planets and direction? Calling in the spirits? Sha-manic rituals?

God’s Master PlanUpon learning all this, I was faced with

an existential crisis: Do I continue down the path I’m on and lose my soul? Or, do I walk away from TCM, which is 95 percent of my income? I praise the Lord that He gave me the will to walk away from it!

You see, our God had a great plan, and He placed on my heart that I should complete the book I’d started on natural health principles. He sent me a mentor,

Pastor Steven Norman, and a friend, Philip Ammons, to help get it printed, and even provided funds for the website.

After reading it, my friend, Pastor C. A. Murray, invited me to 3ABN for an interview; and as God would have it, Danny Shelton was the host.

Then, after we discussed the unique needs of urban communities, he invited me to be the general man-ager of 3ABN’s urban net-work, Dare to Dream.

Look at God! Had I not obeyed His leading, I would have missed the greatest career opportu-nity of my lifetime! He’s given me a hope and a future, and I’m utterly grateful.

short—if not totally devoid—of truth. Ghosts, witches, vampires, and other undead are let loose to terrify the viewer. Hallows’ Eve. It is the day before All Saints’ Day, which is the church-sanc-tioned ritualistic celebration, com-memoration, and even veneration of dead people who have attained what is

A friend and I were discussing the doctrine of the State of the Dead, recently. He was musing that the

confusion about what happens at death and beyond is one of Satan’s greatest masterpieces of trickery and lies. The erroneous idea on who, what, and where dead people are, is almost universal.

Every church, every religion, and every culture has some ideology pertaining to dead people, and the vast majority of their teachings are wrong, with some even giving a false representation of who God is, and how He deals with sinners and sin!

HollywoodOf course, this is to say nothing about

the Hollywood and television versions of death, which are generous on titilla-tion and entertainment, and shockingly

The Holy and the Profane

termed the “beatific vision.” These are the so-called “saints.” That day is followed by All Souls’ Day, where one prays for one’s family and other dead people who are not yet saints.

A s m e n -tioned, Hal-loween, a very unholy com-memoration of the dead a n d d e a t h i t s e l f , pre -cedes these two “holy” days. Halloween, and its celebration, is a multi-million dollar industry. Ghosts, ghouls, witches, black cats, and the spirit world of the undead are all highlighted, praised, and in some cases, prayed to and through as a means of getting to God.

The Holy and the Profane

As much as any, this time of the year is an unbiblical intersecting of the religious and the profane. The very reason for our conversation was the fact that a large Protestant church I routinely pass on the

way home from work turns its building and parking lot into Halloween mode for its members and the community.

I see no justification for a church to involve itself in t h i s typ e o f c e l e b r a -tion. Whether sacred or sec-u l a r , t h e s e ce lebrat ions are clearly in opposition to

what the Bible says on the State of the Dead. That position is not espoused by every Christian denomination, but my pastor friend and I both agreed that Hal-loween and Christ have no common interests.

How important it is that truth always be sanctified, that is, set apart, and Holy. Truth and its promulgation are what 3ABN Pro-claim! is all about!

ids Time has been on the air for almost fifteen years now, and God continues to use this pro-

gram to reach hearts of all ages. Some people might be surprised to know that there are as many adults who watch the program as there are kids! When I first started producing Kids Time there were already thirteen programs that had been produced, so you might say I inherited the Kids Time logo.

New Logo DesignWhen we moved into our new studio

eight years ago, I felt impressed that we should give our logo an updated look, but although many designers submitted logo ideas, none of them seemed to be quite right. After almost three hundred logo design submissions, I called my friend Mark Bond, a very talented graphic designer, and asked if he would give it

a try. In no time at all, he had e-mailed me with the new des ig n! He had actually hand drawn the letters, taken away the old artist palette, and tweaked the color just a touch. To put it simply—I was blown away! I called him imme-diately, whooping and hollering with

excitement! We finally had our new logo, one that wasn’t so different from our old one, yet had a fresh new look!

New Kids Time Praise OpenMark didn’t stop there; he also created

a new look for Kids Time Praise—just in time too, because we are about to release

over forty new K i d s T i m e P r a i s e p r o -grams! Mark designed the original open-i n g g r a p h i c for Kids Time Praise, and now he’s created a new logo and a

new open for the program, as well. Danny Shelton wrote a song called “Let’s All Praise the Lord,” which is featured on his Love Rules album, and the song worked out perfectly for the open. I’m so excited for you to see it, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

We Need Your HelpIf you would l ike to see more

Just for Kids

Koalas all have different

fingerprints!

1. Place where baby koalas develop

2. Types of leaves koalas eat

3. What koalas do most often

4. Koalas are not this type of animal

Using the leaves, find the answer to each question below. Each answer will use at least two leaves. Unscramble the remaining three leaves to discover the mystery word.

good lesson to learn in life is that things are not always as they might seem. For instance, when referring to koalas, most people will say, “koala bear,” but the truth is that they’re not really bears at all! Koalas

are marsupials, which means that their babies develop in a special pouch that God made just for them!

Koalas spend most of their time in eucalyptus trees . . . eating and sleeping. In fact, they will often sleep up to 22 hours each day! Koalas need to sleep that much because it takes a whole lot of energy to digest the eucalyptus leaves, which is their main source of food. Eucalyptus leaves are very fibrous, tough, and low in nutrition, and that’s why it takes so much energy to digest them!

Did you know that koalas are part of an elite group of animals that have something very special in common? Just like gorillas, chimpanzees, and humans, koalas have fingerprints! If you look at a koala’s paw under a microscope, you will see that their fingers have ridges and lines that are very

close to a human’s! Isn’t that fascinating?

However, there is one feature about the koala that you don’t want to share, and that is their “do nothing” lifestyle. God doesn’t want you to be lazy! The Bible says in Hebrews 6:12 (NIV), “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.” God has great plans for your life and He wants to use you in a special way to work for Him!

a friend invited me. Brother How-ard Field was the

pastor, and he was a real man of God.

When I attended that first time I was just tin-

gling all over—the Holy Spirit was so present! During

that time I read a newspaper arti-cle about a woman named Hazel who was operating a brothel just blocks from where I lived! I knew this was the same Hazel that had lived in our home, and that night, the Lord impressed me to go see her. The next evening I walked over to the build-

ing on Brown Street and found Hazel passed out on the couch. I could smell alco-hol, so I turned around and went back home. But the Lord spoke to my heart and

said, I want you to return to that place. There’s someone there I want you to tell about My love and grace.

“I went back the next day, and Hazel was passed out again on the couch, so I sat down and waited. Two girls came down the stairs and went into the kitchen, and I didn’t know who to speak to. But when one of them left, I went to the kitchen to talk to the other one.

me to love the Lord. At the age of fif-teen, I heard a sermon in church that put me under such conviction that I ran weeping to the altar, confessed my sins, was born into the Kingdom of God, and baptized in the cold waters of a Kentucky lake.”

TrialsAudrey married Lawrence Thomas

on April 8, 1942, only to learn later that he was bi-polar. “That was a real trial for our three children and me, because back then we didn’t have the medications to treat the condition, like we have today,” she says. “I loved my husband though, and we were together 57 years until his death in 1999.

“I had my first child in 1943 during World War II. My doctor had been called into the army, so I was turned over to another doctor who turned out to be a drug addict. My mother was staying with me in Tennessee, and the instructions he’d given me about my condition did not sit well with her. She told me, ‘I want to take you back home to the doctor that delivered you.’ So we rode the bus back to my hometown, and as you can imagine,

Obedienta Heart to be

I f ever I’ve spoken with someone and known beyond doubt that God had chosen them from birth to be obedi-

ent and do His will, it is Audrey. Audrey Jewell Tolliver was born on

August 6, 1924, in Neon, Kentucky. Her mother developed toxemia, a some-times-fatal condition that can occur in the latter weeks of pregnancy, charac-terized by high blood pressure, swelling, and excessive protein in the urine. (It is more accurately called preeclampsia before the convulsive stage and eclamp-

sia after the condition worsens and convul-sions and coma set in, at which time the baby may be stillborn). “I believe the devil tried to kill me before I was born,” Audrey says. “But Mother’s doctor, ‘Big Daddy,’ stayed with her throughout the delivery and we both survived. God had His hand on me!

“My mother was a Christian, and taught

it was a very diffi-cult ride through the hills of Ken-tucky in my con-dition. It turned out I had toxemia, just as my mother had with me; but ‘Big Daddy’ came that night and stayed through my 12 hours of labor. John was born two weeks early, and I was in a coma for three days. But by God’s grace, John and I both survived.”

On a MissionEarly in her married life, Audrey rented

a room to Hazel, a woman who stayed with them a few months, then moved on. She had no idea this brief encounter would lead her to witness for the Lord in an unexpected place two decades later.

“I attended the Methodist Church in my early years. At that time I was an ‘ought to’ Christian because if anyone asked me to do something in the church, I thought that as a Christian, I ought to do it. I taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and worked in the kitchen. But when our church started dialoging with the World Council of Churches, an alarm went off in my spirit,” she says, “and the Holy Spirit told me to leave that church and not return.”

“I began attending the Evangelical Methodist Church in the late 1960s after

Audrey began a life of obe-dience to God by being bap-tized in the cold waters of a Kentucky lake in 1939 when she was just 15 years old.

thing but godly so she’d run away and was now working as a prostitute. I told her it was never God’s will for her childhood to have been so horrible, and that the Lord loved her, and His grace was sufficient to save her soul. She didn’t make a change that night, but I believe she did leave and became a child of God because the Lord never asked me to return again.”

In 1983 Audrey met a young woman with an eight-month-old baby boy. “It was a Wednesday evening after church, and some of us were lingering in the parking lot, enjoying what we called the ‘afterglow.’ Brother Ken Satterfield went over and started talking to the young woman, and since I’d never seen her before, I walked over and asked, ‘Brother Ken, is there any-thing I can do to help?’ He looked at me and said, ‘Sister, your turn will come.’ So I invited her over for Sunday dinner and she came. Then, a few days later, she made her way back to our home and started living with us, off and on, for several years. Wil-low* smoked cigarettes and was on drugs,

long before I came to that church in Knoxville. I had been listening to 3ABN, and that absolutely revolutionized my life. It was the Seventh-day Adventist Church that fulfilled one of the desires of my heart for Bible studies.

“When I turned 90, I came to live with my daughter and son-in-law, since I could no longer care for myself. I have macular degeneration and am legally blind, so my daughter reads the Bible to me now,” Audrey says.

“I never dreamed I would live this long, and I believe the Lord will let me go to sleep in Jesus as I await the resurrection. Oh, what a glorious day!”

I asked Audrey if I could share her testi-mony, and she replied with a resounding, “Yes, if my testimony can touch the heart of one person, I will be thrilled.”

She has. It was mine, and I hope yours, too!

Testimony

“I liked what I heard so much, that I prayed all the way home to get 3ABN on my TV.”

but we never condemned her. The Lord said to just love her.”

Willow was born into the occult and tried to escape repeatedly, but each time she was found and brought back. “It’s not easy to break free,” Audrey explains. “Satan is vicious, and the people involved in the occult inflict cruel and inhumane punishment on those who try to leave.

“Much deliverance took place while she lived with us, and the Lord assured me that He would deliver many more people out of

darkness if His children were willing to receive them and provide for them.”

Lord, Send MeAs I spoke with Audrey, I was amazed

by her willingness to do God’s bidding, and the extreme and unlikely places He sends an obedient heart to save His children. “One time Willow and I were riding in my car, and I said, ‘I think the Lord has impressed me to go into that tavern up ahead.’

“Now please understand that I’d never been in a tavern in my life! The room was dark, the music was loud, and the smell of alcohol permeated the air as I sat down. After some minutes, a man walked up and politely said, ‘Your hair reminds me of my grandmother. May I sit with you for a moment?’

“He told me his grandmother was a godly woman who taught him about Jesus, but for years he’d been living in sin. I told him how the Lord could save to the

uttermost, and he accepted Jesus. Then I led him in the sinner’s prayer—right there in the tavern!

“But not all of them turn out that way,” Audrey adds with sorrow. “I remember seeing a big motorcycle parked outside a business one day, so I went in and the only customer was this man dressed in biker clothes. I sat next to him and began a conversation about the Lord, but he was hard core and wanted nothing to do with Him. So I left with a heavy heart, and later heard he was killed in a motorcycle accident that night. I believe I was sent there to offer him God’s salvation, but he chose not to be saved. It’s so sad.”

A New DirectionThe new century brought a change

for Audrey. “I was visiting my daughter’s home and she had the TV on 3ABN,” she says. “I liked what I heard so much, that I prayed on the way home to get 3ABN on my TV. And when I scanned through the channels on my set, there it was!

“I was starving spiritually, but when I found 3ABN, I began to be fed. The seventh-day Sabbath was not a problem for me, but the State of the Dead was a bit of a problem, because I’d always believed that when you die you went straight to Heaven or hell. However, I believed the truth of the Bible, and was baptized again on September 28, 2012, at the age of 88 in the Knoxville First Seventh-day Adventist Church. I was an Adventist in my heart *Willow is a pseudonym

Since we launched the 3ABN Seventh-day Adventist Education fundraising project we’ve seen an outpouring of support from our viewers and listeners. Through their generous donations, qualifying schools can now receive free

copies of Hallelujah, We’re Home at Last! CD, DVD, or USB flash drive—and keep 100 percent of their sale price!

3ABN president, Danny Shelton, says, “Many Seventh-day Adventist schools have sold copies of this album, which features songs about the Second Coming of Christ, arranged by the legendary and award-winning composer, Lari Goss. However, now we are offering two more options.

“The first is It’s a Beautiful World CD, featuring happy songs about Creation Week, Heaven, and many other Bible topics—including God’s per-fect number, Seven. We’ve also just completed a DVD version,” he adds. “These songs appeal to kids of all ages, from the very young all the way up to age 15, and I believe this album will be a tremendous boost, especially for elementary

schools.“Then there’s our

best-selling Pillars of Our Faith album, written and com-posed by the award-winning team of David Huntsinger and Kris Wilkinson. These songs have inspired thousands of people, and are also available in CD and DVD formats.”

Fundraising With a MessageThe fundraising idea began when Moses Primo, 3ABN’s director of broadcasting

and engineering, approached Danny and told him that he felt the Holy Spirit running through each song on the Hallelujah, We’re Home At Last! album, adding that he thought millions of copies needed go out.

Shortly afterward, Danny was asked if he would buy some candy for a local school fundraiser. “We’re all familiar with these,” he says, “but later I found out that for every $14 they sell, the school only earns $4—so the average candy drive around here only nets $200 to $300. That seemed like a lot of effort and accounting work, not to mention the ‘upfront’ money. So I wondered, What can we do to support both Adventist schools and 3ABN?

How It WorksThe result was the beginning of the Adventist Education fundraising project, and

here is how it works: When you donate say $150 to 3ABN for this project, we double that donation value

by donating 20 albums (valued at $300) to an Adventist school. They, in turn, sell them for $15 a piece, and keep 100 percent of the proceeds. Your original $150 in this example triples in donation value to $450! Of course, when you donate any amount, we’ll send you a DVD or CD as our way of saying thank you!

Catching the Vision When the project was first

mentioned on a 3ABN Today program, it raised almost $100,000. “That paid for 15,600 CDs, or the equivalent of a year’s worth of sales for a top gospel song—and our supporters did it in one night,” Danny exclaims. “Over the past several months, we’ve raised over $400,000; but our goal is to raise $3,000,000 for Adventist Education.

“Pathfinders, youth organizations, and church building fund drives can also partici-pate. Even non-Adventist church schools can have their church send funds, then sell the albums for $15—doubling their money. In the end, your donation benefits Adventist Education, 3ABN, the kids who become actively involved in ministry, and those who receive the good news of Jesus Christ and His soon return!”

Please ask the Lord what He would have you do in support of Adventist Education and this ministry.

Ernestine “Teenie” Finley has inspired

thousands to improve their quality of life

through healthy cooking classes that focus on

practical, economical, and delicious recipes.

She is married to international evangelist, Mark

Finely, who hosted It Is Written for 14 years, and

now serves as assistant to the president of the

General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

They spend 200 days a year traveling and

sharing good news with audiences worldwide.

From the kitchen of Teenie Finley

Ingredients

• 3 cups raw ground cashew nuts

• 2 cups vegan vegeburger

• 2 Tbsp oil

• 1 large onion, chopped

• 1 cup celery, chopped

• 1 cup bread crumbs

• 1/2 tsp salt

• 3 tsp Ener-G Egg replacer, mixed with 2 Tbsp water

• 3 tsp McKay’s Chicken–Style Seasoning

• 1 Tbsp Bragg’s Liquid Aminos

• 1 cup soymilk

The Cashew Holiday Roast has been a favorite in the Finley family since the early 1970s. I

first developed this recipe and placed it on a recipe card for one of my first cooking schools. Class members enjoyed it so much it has been a sta-ple in our Natural Lifestyle Cooking Schools, ever since.

Thousands have enjoyed this tasty, healthful recipe for over 40 years, and my husband Mark looks forward to this special dish each holiday season. It really has become part of our family holiday tradition, and I know your family will enjoy it, as well! My wish for you is that you will prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. 3 John 2.

Directions

1 In a medium mixing bowl, combine all ingredients, adding soy milk last.

2 Place into 8 x 8-inch baking pan and bake at 350ºF for about an hour, or until golden brown on top.

CASHEW FRUITIn Brazil the juice of the cashew fruit is squeezed, diluted, and sweetened for a popular drink.

The nut however, is filled with toxic and flammable acid that must be roasted away before the nut is eaten! Unlike oily tree nuts, cashews have 10% starch by weight, making them a good thickener—and a delicious snack, too!

top chambers are fibrillating, blood does not pass through these chambers as it did before; and when blood does

not move easily, there’s a tendency for it to clot.

If a blood clot forms and is pumped out of the heart, it can lodge in a blood vessel in the brain, stopping the flow, and triggering a stroke. Many strokes are attributed to atrial fibrillation, and blood thinners help lower the risk of this catastrophic event.

As I slow the heart and evaluate the risk and benefit profile of blood thin-ners, the search begins for the reason why the atrial fibrillation occurred in the first place. Many medical conditions can trigger this, including coronary artery disease, weak hearts, damaged heart valves, sleep apnea, thyroid disease,

Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained abnormal rhythm I evaluate in the office

and hospital. Simply put, the top chambers (called the atria) are b e at i ng i r re g u l ar ly at ver y fast speeds. When this occurs, the patient may complain of palpitations, shortness of breath, discomfort in the chest, or fatigue. The diagnosis is made by an electrocardiogram, a monitor, and sometimes by just feeling a regularly irregular pulse.

The RisksIn evaluating this rhythm, first I try to

slow the rhythm down with medications and evaluate the need for blood thinners. Why blood thinners? Because when the

abnormal electrolytes, ageing, genetics, infections, dehydration, and the list goes on.

A complete history and physical will determine other diagnostic tests, which may include blood work, specialized testing on the heart, or even wearing monitors to learn more about the rhythm.

Sometimes, if a patient is unstable, a procedure called a cardioversion is needed. This is a procedure where the heart is “shocked” back into a normal rhythm while the patient is sedated. Once the heart is stabilized, the search for the cause begins.

MedicationsWhether long-term medications are

needed depends on many factors, includ-ing the cause, the age of the individual, medication risks, and their overall health. Atrial fibrillation is treatable, but the treatment for a patient depends on many factors.

Sometimes medications do not sta-bilize or restore the rhythm, so some of my patients needed an ablation. This

specialized procedure is performed by an electrophysiologist who disrupts the rhythm, hopefully permanently. This procedure does carry more risks, and is reserved for very symptomatic patients.

Many times the discussion in my office centers on the risks and benefits of blood thinners. No one likes to take medication, but a stroke is a real possibility for those who have atrial fibrillation, and blood thinners lower this risk. I long for the day when we do not have to be concerned about atrial fibrillation, medications, or blood thinners. But until that day, I am glad we have an Ultimate Physician we can turn to who will help us in all decisions relating to our health.

high-pitched shriek shattered the peacefulness of the day. Star-tled, I looked out the window.

There it was, again. It sounded almost like a baby crying. I dashed to the front door and threw it open. Who was in trouble?

The cries intensified. Suddenly, I spot-ted the source. There stood our cat, our

darling Pebbles, with something brown and furry in her mouth. She shook her head from side to side as the little animal in her mouth struggled and cried. I flew down the steps. “Pebbles, stop that! Drop that now!”

Surprisingly, she actually dropped it, and I discovered it was a little rabbit, not even

StruggleEven as I pondered, he lay there,

fighting for breath. Struggling for life. The front legs worked constantly, even though he lay on his side.

Face it. He’s not going to make it, Jill. Even as my mind reached that con-clusion, his little legs moved slower and finally grew still. Now, just his ears twitched ever so often, as his little lungs struggled to breathe.

You could put him out of his misery. But as swiftly as the thought came, it vanished. No, I could never do that! So, I did the only thing I knew to do. I knelt there on the grass and prayed, tears fall-ing on my jeans. In probably the space of a few seconds, his breathing grew less, and simply stopped altogether.

He was dead.

WhisperPebbles came and rubbed her head

against my knee. How could she have killed that little bunny? But I already knew the answer. It was in her nature. It

was instinctual. She’d been raised to kill since kittenhood. So I reached out to pet her while my heart bled for the bunny she had just killed.

And then, God spoke to me. Not an audible voice, but the whisper of His Spirit. That’s exactly how I feel when My children hurt each other. I love them both—the gossiper, and the one gossiped about. The murderer, and the one mur-dered. The abuser, and the one who is abused.

I shuddered. How is that possible? But God wasn’t finished yet. That’s how

I can love you, Jill, my precious daughter. Even when you hurt others. Even when you disobey. Even when you walk outside of My will. Since I have forgiven you, don’t you think you could love and forgive your brothers and sisters?

So I’m learning, day by day. Learning to love like Jesus. Learning to live for Him. Learning to surrender, for in sur-render comes victory.

I did the only thing I

knew to do.

I knelt there on the

fully grown. Could rabbits scream like a baby? Shaking my head, I knelt down next to the ball of fluff. Pebbles had wandered off to rest from the excitement. She wasn’t hungry—she was only interested in the thrill of the chase.

SorrowThe little bunny lay limp and helpless,

its wet sides heaving. “I’m so sorry,” I said. “Sorry you got hurt.” He didn’t know I wanted to help him; terrified, he tried to get away. His front legs worked frantically, as he tried to rise. However, his spinal cord must’ve been snapped during the shaking. He couldn’t make his back legs work.

Sadly, I watched as he struggled to drag his hindquarters a few feet across the grass and into the shade of my lilies. I didn’t try to follow too closely—he’d had enough trauma, already. Instead, I watched him through tear-blurred eyes from a little distance. What could I do to help?

principle concerning this issue—and they were at variance with each other.

“You have the Lord living in you,” I said. “The Holy Spirit was speaking to your heart, and the devil was speaking to your mind. Your heart knew you must stay true to the principles of God, but your mind was saying, You respect this person, and what they said is reasonable; so you should do what they say. No won-der you were troubled!”

HEART AND MINDWhen we speak of the “heart,” we understand that we’re not

referring to the muscle that pumps our blood—we’re referring to our mind, where we reason and decide things.

So the question arises: If Satan can speak to our mind

just as the Holy Spirit does, how can I know the difference?

The difference is between the

More than once, I have been asked the question, “My spirit is troubled, is it God doing that, or is it the devil?”

Before you read on, please stop to con-sider how you would answer.

An experience was being related to me from a caller outside the United States. It involved both her and a relative, but her relative had declared she must deal with a particular issue in a particular way, or she could not call herself a Christian. She had respect for the relative, “But” she said, “my spirit was troubled within me and I was confused. Was God causing my spirit to be troubled, or was it the devil?”

“Both,” I responded.

CONFLICTEDThis woman was in

conflict. She understood the point her relative was making, however, she also knew the Bible

heart/mind, or just the mind. As people with a fallen nature that live in a fallen world, we would only be able to hear that which is evil, were it not for our Creator God, whose will it is that none should perish, but for all to come to repentance.

When we decide to follow Jesus, make Him Lord, and commit to Him, He claims residence in us. That part of us is reserved, and this is where the Lord writes His Law—in our “hearts.”

If we nurture that part, and guard the avenues of our senses, the Lord will lead us in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

If we do not reinforce that which God has begun to do in us, and if we do not guard the avenues of our mind, the evil one will use them to direct our path in the wrong direction. We will lose sight of the principles we learn of the Divine, and follow the signpost of reason, and

not faith.

We will be diverted from the path of righ-teousness to one that leads to destruction.

FINDING GOD’S WILLWith her family’s present involvement,

as well as her past involvement in the occult, the caller’s concern was to insure that she was in God’s will.

“Have you denounced your past with the occult?” I asked.

“Yes!” she replied. “I did that when I accepted the truth of the Sabbath.”

“Do you believe He has forgiven you, and that He’s able to deliver you from the snares of the devil?”

Again she responded, “Yes!” “Then continue to trust with all your

heart, mind, soul, and body; and con-tinue to learn His truth. He will keep His promise that ‘Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.’ John 18:37. I can assure you, as you study and pray, you will distinguish the voice of your Savior.”

T he ancients thought literally, so when God gives them the plan of salvation in covenant form,

it is portrayed to them in that manner. Initially the covenant is delivered ver-bally, and later it is given in a show-and-tell form for literal thinkers, with the establishment of the sanctuary with its compartments, sacrifices, and offerings.

The sanctuary for the ancients is the dwelling place of God on earth with His people. It is a portable structure, enabling God to live with them, even as they move from place to place. It is divided into three parts: the court, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place; and the sinner’s

progressive religious experience involves all three areas.

The CourtThe court is the

outer part, where a sin-ner’s journey begins, and the altar of whole burnt offering is its reli-gious center. An animal is killed each day in its

northern part, representing judgment; its entrails and legs are washed in the southern part of the court, considered the favored section.

The animal is completely burned on the altar as a whole burnt offering, and represents the complete sacrifice and death of the future Messiah. Its death pays the penalty for sin, in substitution for the death of the sinner. Through this, the sinner is saved and completely justified (declared righteous) before God. The Messiah’s righteousness becomes the sinner’s righteousness.

It’s Personal! When an Israelite unknowingly sins,

and his transgression comes to light, he brings an animal as a sin offering to the door of the sanctuary. He then places his hand on its head, confessing his sin. This represents the transfer of his sin to the innocent victim that prefigures the Messiah.

The sinner then must slay the animal, himself. This makes a deep impression regarding the awfulness of his sin! The blood of the animal is taken by the priest

into the sanctuary court and sprinkled around the altar of burnt offering, indi-cating that the sin is transferred from the sinner to the sanctuary.

In cases of known sin, and when he wrongfully takes or misuses some-thing, the Israelite must restore what was wrongfully taken, adding a penalty of 20 percent. He then brings a trespass offer-ing to the sanctuary and follows a similar procedure to the sin offering. Both of these offerings result in the complete forgiveness of the sinner, transferring his sins from him to the sanctuary.

The Holy PlaceThe saved sinner is also linked to the

next compartment of the sanctuary—the Holy Place. Saved from sin through the death of the Messiah, he must now live saved by the life of the Messiah. Like the whole burnt offerings, both public and private, the grain or meal offerings can be part of the daily ritual of the sanctuary, or privately brought by an individual.

Chief among the public grain offerings is the showbread (or the Bread of the Presence) that is kept continually before

the Lord. It consists of 12 loaves, placed in two stacks on the table, and changed every Sabbath. A drink offering accom-panies the morning and evening sacrifice.

Private grain offerings are voluntary, and can be offered at any time. They are a testimony of their dependence on the Lord for sustenance and life. On the Lord’s part, it serves as a continual prom-ise that He will continually sustain His people. Applied to the Messiah, literally, it indicates that His slain body serves as food to sustain one who is saved, just as His blood serves as drink. In theologi-cal terms, the Messiah’s resurrected life serves as the means for sanctification.

Next month we’ll look at the stunning Most Holy Place!

In Unforgettable TermsBased on Leviticus 1–6

Baltimore, Maryland: “The first time my wife and I walked into a Seventh-day Adventist church was in January of this year, and at the same time, we found 3ABN on cable television. We’ve never looked back. Thank you so much for teaching us the truth! Our baptism is scheduled for August 8, when we will officially become members of the Annap-olis, Maryland Seventh-day Adventist Church. Again, thank you, in Jesus’ name!”

Whitby, Ontario, Canada: “While living in New York, I discovered 3ABN quite by accident. I started to watch, and as weeks grew into months and years, I watched during all of my free time. Eventually I found a small church, very close to where I lived, and started attending. I finally made a decision and was baptized in May 2010, due to every-thing I’d learned and came to believe from watching 3ABN. I’m now retired and live in Canada, but I’m still an avid viewer of many 3ABN programs. I enjoyed meeting many of you at 3ABN’s booth at the General Conference Ses-sion in San Antonio, Texas.”

Eagle River, Alaska: “I was home from work going through treatment and recovery from cancer when I found

you on cable channel 125. It was a great comfort to me. The prophetic history, dietary laws, and end-time message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is very moving, and even though I was baptized here in Alaska as a Baptist, I want to be a part of your movement. I am now in my third week of very quickened recovery. I feel that taking in your programming and praying with your presenters has had a grand biblical effect, and I must give the victory to Jesus Christ.”

Northwood, Iowa: “As I began watching 3ABN I developed a fondness for many of your people, as their love of Jesus is so apparent. I have enjoyed Pastor Gilley’s kind and sincere personality, and I hope he will continue to participate in 3ABN’s programming.”

From an inmate in Westville, Indiana: “One day, while lying in bed, an officer came into my cell with the mail. God spoke to me through one of your book-lets, and I’ve given my life to Christ. He has opened my eyes and filled me with the Holy Spirit. Even though I’m partially paralyzed, I take it as a blessing. It is a permanent reminder of how much God loves me and wants to use me. Thank you for the booklet that opened my eyes and led me back to Jesus.”
