Dear Cattlemen,

Welcome to our 37th Annual Polled Bull Sale. We are pleased to present this group of bulls and females for your appraisal. The cattle market is still quite profitable for the cow/calf producer, and prospects for spring grass are as good as they have been for years.

Our bull offering is loaded with polled, easy calving genetics that will grow. Whether you sell right off the cow or feed to finish, we are confident our genetics will help you obtain a satisfactory result.

The bulls have been on a complete vaccination program. Please visit with Dr. Paul Ritter or myself if you have questions concerning our herd health. All bulls selling are semen tested and have tested negative for BVD. Individual performance data on each bull is available in the catalog and supplement sheet.

Our female offering this year will include ten fall calving cow/calf pairs. These cows will be bred back to calve next fall. The heifer calves will be split and sold separately. Our spring pair offering will include four first calf heifers with LT Silver Distance heifer calves by side. This female offering is strong and represents some of our best genetics.

Sam Carlson

Sam Carlson, cattleman and good friend, passed away January 15, 2016, after a courageous fight with cancer. Sam was an educated man with degrees from Bethany College, Emporia State, and Northern Illinois University. He spend 36 years in the field of education as a classroom instructor, counselor, and administrator.

After retirement Sam and Betty traveled to Monument, KS and toured our ranch. From that day on Sam and Betty have been fixtures at our annual sale each spring.

Sam and Betty became huge fans of Charolais cattle, and built their herd in Willow Springs, MO. Sam liked to tour cattle, give me a hard time and was always willing and ready to offer his candid opinion. In many ways he reminded me of my Dad, always ready to give advice and most times advice that was helpful and constructive.

I valued Sam’s friendship and mentorship and miss him greatly!

Much like the large group of ET fall born brothers that were featured in last year’s sale, this set of ETs will also create a pile of attention. Purebred breeders and commercial men alike will try to add these genetics to their herds. The dam of these Ledger sons #6075 is a deep-bodied, thick cow with an excellent udder. She is an AICA Dam of Distinction with all three of her natural born daughters remaining in the herd as well as eight ET daughters. The average weaning weight ratio on her 3 daughters and 2 sons is an impressive 107.6! Although no picture was ever taken of #6075, we did picture one of her daughters #9084, a maternal sister to these bulls. The sire of #6075 was Rancher and this is perhaps the greatest producing daughter HCR ever raised, and he produced some great ones!

This doesn’t happen very often at all. David Hubert will add this bull to his summer breeding program, so we will only be selling ½ interest and the FALL possession. He states that “this is one of the best bulls in the sale.” He has liked this bull from birth on. His first-calf-heifer dam had him before her second birthday and bred right back. He had a low birth weight of 79 lbs. and then powered on to a great weaning weight of 800 plus pounds. This bull provides HCR with an outcross to use on first-calf-heifer LT Ledger daughters on the top side and a shot of Ledger to line breed on the bottom. Here is another top of the line Doc Silver son that needs some attention too. This good patterned, thick made bull comes out of a great cow line again. His dam is a full sister to HCR Patriarch 2502 that topped the 2014 Hubert Charolais Ranch Bull Sale at $14,000 selling to Rennert Ranch and Vision Cattle Co. Not only did Patriarch top the sale but three other full brothers were the next three high sellers at $10,000 each! Another full sister to the dam of this bull topped last year’s female offering at $10,500 selling to 3MC Charolais in Iowa.

This Doc Silver son has the 2nd highest IMF ratio at 118 in his contemp group.

Diablo was put into the HCR breeding program to offer a Canadian outcross genetics to many of today’s bloodlines and after observing many positive traits that the breed needs today of muscle, bone and power. He was the Grand Champion Bull in Denver in 2012 and the following spring his full brother CML Encore 4Y was the National Reserve Grand Champion Bull at Fort Worth. In 2014 the Canadian National Champion Female was sired by Diablo. You will like the results he has given the HCR program in this catalog.
