Anti-pyretic Paracetamol reducesthe oxidized form of the COX enzyme,
preventing it fromforming pro-inflammatorychemicals.Thusreducing the amount of
Prostaglandin E2 inthe CNS and thuslowering the
hypothalamic set pointin thethermoregulatory
centre.
· Symptomaticrelief of pain andfever.
· Hematologic:anemia,leucopenia
· Use liquid form for childrenand
patients who have difficultyswallowing.· In children, don’t exceedfive dosesin 24 hours.· Advise patient that drug isonly for short term use and to consultthe
physician if giving tochildren for longer than 5 days or adults
for longer than 10 days.
· Advise patient or caregiver that
many over the counter products
contain acetaminophen; beaware
of this when calculating totaldailydose.· Warn patient that highdoses or unsupervised long term usecancause liver damage.

pain.
