SPIRITUAL REMEMBRANCE TABERNACLE CANDLES

May 17, 2020

In Memory of Grandparents of the Gopal Family Donated by The Gopal Family

“For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil. (1 Peter 3:17)

The old line says “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning and making sure things are progressing smoothly. Then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended or an unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may respond negatively and ask, “Why me? I did everything right!” Here’s the thing-adversity humbles us and reminds us of our dependence on God and not on our own self-reliance. Rest assured, God has a better plan in store for you.

MEDITATION FOR MAY 17, 2020 If we do not speak and act for Christ, who will? Saint Teresa of Avila once wrote that Christ has no body on earth but ours. This 16th century mystic understood what Jesus meant when he said, If you love me, you will keep my commandments. She believed we meet Jesus’ expectation by becoming a voice for the voiceless, as Philip did in Samaria-where his preaching, signs, and deeds brought great joy.

In the first reading, Philip proclaims the Gospel in Samaria and many people are cured. Peter and John follow and lay hands on the newly baptized there, and they received the Holy Spirit. In the second reading, Peter encourages the community to always be ready to give reason for their hope, and be willing to suffer for doing good. In the Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples that those who love him will follow his commandments

OUR LADY OF FATIMA STATUE This week the Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be in the home of Mavis DaCruz. Please remember to pick up the black bags and returning them and the statue back to the priest’s sacristy on Saturday, May 23, 2020. While this virus is still circulating, would you please wipe down the statue with disinfectant not alcohol. Thank you for taking Our Lady on a journey through our parish.

KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PARISH OFFICE

Are you new to the area? Are you a registered member of the parish?? Are you moving???

If you have recently moved into the area and have not yet registered in the parish, we encourage you to become a registered member. You may do so in a variety of ways: you can ask an usher for a registration packet after Mass; by stopping by or calling the Parish Office to obtain a registration packet. Once registered, you will receive quarterly mailing of parish offertory envelopes.

The use of an Offertory envelope helps us to track Mass attendance which affects your status as an active or inactive parishioner. Mass attendance, not the content of the offertory envelope, is reviewed twice a year and a letter is sent to those who have not used their envelopes in a specified time period.

It is necessary to be an ACTIVE, REGISTERED member of the parish in order to obtain Sponsor Letters which are needed to act as Godparents for Baptism or Sponsors for Confirmation. Sponsor letters cannot be given to those considered inactive (or not registered). We also ask that anyone seeking to be married in our church or to baptize a child be registered in the parish. If you are moving out of the parish, please contact the office around the time of your move so we may change our records accordingly and avoid sending you envelopes you don’t need.

Any questions, please call the Parish Office, 732-297-3000.

Happy Birthday!

At the end of April, participants in the Spiritual Adoption Ministry joyfully celebrated the birth of 37 spiritually adopted babies. To date, 534 children’s lives have been spared thru this ministry in our parish. Each child is created for LIFE…God fashions each of us by His own hand and imbues each of us with special gifts and talents…any child lost to abortion means those talents and gifts meant for our world are also lost. To adopt a child you merely have to say a short prayer authored by Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen each day. My family includes this prayer at dinnertime right after we say grace so that we don’t forget…LOL! Please consider joining us by contacting Donna Canvin at [email protected] or 908.420.3760. And a special Happy Birthday to our babies… Robert, Sharon Elizabeth, Anastasia, Jessie, Alexander, Bettina, Albert, John Paul, AnnaMae & James, Betty, Alexandria, Louis, Margaret, Katherine Alice, Zoe & Sebastian, David, Keira Lyn, Brandon, Carlos, Autumn Marie, Peter, Ciara Nicole, Mary Ann, Suzie, Mary, John, Nikki, Isabella, Claire Ann & Nicolas, Abigail, Philip, Eve, Christopher, and Mark
