  • Dear Friends,

We are so pleased that you are joining us as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of Peoples Light and Theatre. Since its inception, the Theatre has sought to entertain, inspire and engage our community. Peoples Light has been unique in how it has integrated the arts and education in ever widening circles of engagement. This evening will benefit Project Discovery, the largest arts education program in Pennsylvania, and one of the most comprehensive in the country. This program reaches over 30,000 students each year and strives, through an appreciation of live theatre, to encourage self-expression and creative interaction between students, teachers and family mem-bers. We are happy to welcome you to our circle.

This evening would not be possible without the incredible energy and generosity of our Gala committee and friends of the Theatre who have contributed to this celebration. So please bid high and bid often on the wonderful items that these people have made available for our live auction. We think that you will agree, as you preview these items, that we are offering unique opportunities! This evening will allow you the satisfaction of contributing to our fundraising goal while planning some really novel activities.

Thank you all for celebrating with us, and know that by participat-ing, you are helping to set the stage for a bright future at Peoples Light and Theatre.

  • 6Dear 35th Anniversary Gala Attendees:

It is a pleasure and an honor to celebrate with you this evening.

Peoples Light is a web of artists, volunteers, audience members, friends and fami-lies that for 35 years has been dedicated to making plays that entertain, enlighten and invigorate all of us. And we continue to extend this excitement and learning further to young people and adults through a range of Arts Discovery programs that work through school residencies, classes and Summerstage at Peoples Light, inten-sive community partnerships and specially designed presentations for high school students that line up with and complement school curricula.

In 1974 we could never have imagined: designers sending us their designs elec-tronically, school teachers e-mailing their responses to our programs, students texting for tickets, audience members filling out on-line surveys and ordering tickets on the world wide web. But in 2010 more things than not are the same: art-ists and audience members together in a darkened theatre sharing the words, sounds and sights of a play; artist/teachers in a classroom guiding students in making discoveries about a script, characters and universal human themes.

Thank you all so much for making this complex and rich interchange possible on a daily basis here at Peoples Light.

And a special thanks to the 35th Anniversary Gala Committee, led with extraordi-nary skill and grace by Katie and Bill McNabb and Barbara and Fred Sutherland.

We look forward to the next 35 years and to the new developments, challenges and discoveries that Peoples Lights community members will encounter together.

    With warmest wishes and gratitude,

Abigail Adams Grace E. GrilletArtistic Director Managing Director
