On Monday, June 5th, my Council Colleagues and I approved the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2018 Budget with an 8-1 vote. I am thrilled to say that many of the district’s priorities have been funded in the May Budget Revision. The information below includes Council District 4 and City of San Diego priorities in the approved budget:

Funding for a nationwide search for the new police chief Police Recruitment and Retention to address understaffing in both sworn and non-

sworn positions, the San Diego Police Department’s Five-Year plan will allocate funds to meet minimum police staffing levels

Implementation of AB 953 (Racial and Identity Profiling Act of 2015) to identify potential costs of any newly required systems

Funding for the Neighborhood Code Compliance Division of the Development Services Department to address code compliance violations in the district

Funding for the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center Facility Improvements

Funding for the completion of Streamview Drive Funding to continue work on the Rolando Park Joint-Use Field project and

complete design Funding for additional sidewalks and street lights in District 4 in the Paradise

Hills and Encanto communities

The approved budget included an amendment to reallocate the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget’s proposed $5 million for a special election. The City Council was asked to fund a special election in the budget and I voted no to funding it, and I will not change my vote.

Exemplary Event for Exemplary Students: Council President Cole with the Class of 2017 Walls of Excellence inductees. The 12 students met requirements of a minimum of 3.0 GPA, have a history of community involvement, have demonstrated significant improvement, and are proud residents of the Council District 4 to be inducted to the Walls of Excellence.
