PROVIDE MORE SERVICE:In 2012, we established a foundation to help raise

additional funds to support Rotary service projects in our area

Vehicle for tax deductible contributions, locally or thru Rotary International

More access and appeal to non-Rotarians

Allows donors to be generous anonymously, if desired

Opportunity to provide long term service and significant support to designated projects

OUR GOAL – LONG TERMFocus on three projects in WNC:

Provide long term financial support

Raise significant funds from the immediate five counties

Barium Springs’ Hawthorn Heights --Bryson City, NC

Only Teen Emergency Homeless Shelter west of Asheville

Serves youth 12 to 18 years old in our counties

In the shelter for multiple reasons:

Abuse/Neglect

Homeless

Runaway

Seeking safety and refuge

Hawthorn Heights --Bryson City, NC

• Provide immediate shelter, food, clothing and long term nurturing

• Provide medical care and therapy to address the trauma they have endured

Provide therapists to work with the teen’s family on problems within the home

Ensure teens attend school

Provide close twenty four hour monitoring

The Shelter is Small and Old

limited storage space

Food must be stored in basement

Teens share a bedroom

Kitchen is very small

house is not up to current code

own room

Separate, more confidential therapy rooms

Large functional kitchen

Open floor plan to allow for better supervision

Will meet all state standards for safety

They need our help

supporting a teen homeless shelter in Bryson City

Rotary Clubs provide $10,000 to use as a challenge donation

Challenge fund will be announced at the 23 April Breakfast Event Kickoff

Participating clubs recognized in Program and at the event

Breakfast provided at no cost to Rotarians
