iStartSmart™ 3.5 Upgrade - Installation Instructions

Minimum System Requirements:

• Hatch All-In-One iStartSmart™ Computer Learning Center v1.0 or v1.1 • Internet access - either hard-wired or wireless connection is acceptable • Internet Explorer 9.0 or greater is required. • 3 websites need to be whitelisted on your network if you have restricted access:

The AIO iStartSmart 3.5 Upgrade will automatically

• Update Shell Squad Games to Version 3.5 enabling secure access to progress monitoring data over the internet via the Hatch Report Management System

• Add links on the Desktop for quick access to Hatch’s new Learning Management System that provides professional training to teachers, access to Online Help videos demonstrating how to use Shell Squad Games and RMS (Report Management System), and access to the Hatch Report Management System

• Maintain all current child progress data and archives on the computer so they are accessible using the earlier version of Shell Squad Games 1.0.

Please Note:

• The upgrade process does not transfer child progress data or archives into the RMS central database or into Shell Squad Games 3.5.

• You will have to re-create your class and add your children who will start from tutorial levels if you do not already have class and child data saved in RMS.

If you have Mobile tablets that children have used, their data was collected in RMS and will synchronize with the upgraded computer once you setup your class on the upgraded computer.

• Any 3rd party software that was loaded and configured into a launch pad in ECLaunch will remain loaded and configured.

Software Installation

• You will need 2 pieces of information from an email sent from Hatch: the download link and the License Code. If you ordered the upgrade and have not received an email, please contact Hatch at 1.800.624.7968

• Exit Shell Squad Games and ECLaunch (Alt-F4)

• Copy the download link into the internet browser on the iStartSmart computer that you will be upgrading. Hit enter key.

• You will be asked to save or run the executable (this varies based on the browser and version)

Latest versions of Windows Internet Explorer display a box at the bottom of the page

Earlier version of Windows Internet Explorer will pop up a box

• Click the “Run” button

• You will see a screen indicating that it is Downloading and verifying

• You may receive a warning that this file is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer



• Click the “Actions” button

• Click the “More Options” line if you see the following screen



• Click the “Run Anyway” line – shown in yellow below

• An InstallAnywhere box will appear

• An Installation Wizard will provide instructions for installing the AIO 3.5 Upgrade. Please follow

the instructions and enter the requested information when prompted:



• Press the “Next” button to continue with the installation. You can cancel the installation at any time by pressing the “Cancel” button.

• The next screen will provide you with important information about the upgrade and your current data before the upgrade starts.



Please type in “YES” and press the “Next” button to indicate that you have read the notice and wish to continue with the upgrade. You can cancel the upgrade by pressing the “Cancel” button.



• On the next screen, enter the License Code that was included in the email sent to you from

Hatch. The License code has 17 Characters. Please enter exactly as shown in your email.

• Press the “Install” button to continue with the installation of the software. Press the “Cancel”

button to stop the upgrade of your system to Shell Squad Games 3.5.

• While the install is working you will see the following screen:



• When the upgrade installer is complete you will see the screen below.

• Please press “Done” button to complete the installation. The system will automatically restart

ECLaunch. Skip to the Start Shell Squad Games after ECLaunch Restarts section below.



• If you did not receive the Congratulations Install Complete screen above, then the upgrade

installer is configuring your system and determining whether your Internet Browser is at the

minimal compatible version.

Please go to Internet Explorer Update Section in the Appendix for instructions about how to

install the update.

Start Shell Squad Games after ECLaunch Restarts

Start Shell Squad Games by touching the icon on the ECLaunch screen

Note: this final download and install of images and audio files could take between 5

minutes to 2 hours to complete depending on the bandwidth of your internet connection.

A Hatch logo will appear followed by the Hatch animated characters introducing iStartSmart

Shell Squad Games

The “Installing Updates to Shell Squad Games” screen displays a thermometer indicating progress of the install and download of required data. This can take between 5 minutes and 2 hours depending on the bandwidth of your internet connection.



• Read and Accept the End User Agreement that appears after the installation is complete

Touch or click in the text box next to “User Name:” and type in your name

Touch or click the vertical box to scroll the text so you can read the agreement

Select “Accept” to agree to the terms of the license and use the software o Selecting “Decline” exits Shell Squad Games. Upon re-entering Shell Squad Games,

this License Agreement screen will display again.

Congratulations! - You have successfully completed installing the Upgrade to 3.5.0.0

Now let’s set up the classes on your system

Please press or click on the “Setup Wizard” button on the menu:



o The following screen will appear:

o If you already have a login to RMS because you have other devices in your class, you can login

and assign one of your existing classes from other devices to this AIO. o Type in your email address and password for your RMS account o Touch the “Login” Button

o If you are a new user and do not have an RMS user id, press the “I am a New User” Button. o The screen displays additional fields so we can add you as a user and create a class and

add your children to the system.



o Type in your email address o Enter in a password for your RMS account that you will also use to see your class reports o Re-enter the same password again to confirm it o Select you school from the dropdown list o Type in your name o Select either one of the icons that are provided in the drop down list or choose a picture

that you have on your computer that will be used to represent your class on the login screens for your children to identify your class

o Touch the “Submit” button when you are finished entering information

o After you have pressed Submit in either of the two cases, the following screen will display.

o Select one or several of your classes that are displayed by clicking in the box to the left of the

class name. A mark will appear in the box to indicate it is selected. o If no classes are displayed, add a class by pressing or clicking in the box under “Create a New

Class” and type in the name of the class and press the “Create” button. This will automatically create the new class and display it on the class list. You can then select it.



o You can change the name of the class by pressing or clicking the edit icon to the right of the class name

o Press the “Submit” Button when you are finished selecting, adding or editing the class names.

o If you selected an existing class with children in it

o This will automatically download data from RMS for your existing class including the children in the class to your AIO automatically.

o Congratulations! You are ready to have children play with Shell Squad Games!

o The Class Login screen will display the picture(s) of the teacher(s). o Children can now play with the updated Shell Squad Games and you can use the new

Teacher features. o You can verify that your software is at the new version by looking in the upper right

corner of the screen. You should see <your computer name> : 3.5.0.0

o If your class is new and there are no children, the system indicates that you should add children:



o Press the Add Child or Photo button and the following screen will appear:

o This confirms that you are the teacher of the class registered on the device. If the name is not

correct, press the “New User” button and you can add yourself as a user as outlined on previous

pages.

o Enter your email address and press “Continue” button

o You will see this menu



o Select “Add Child” button

o Simply enter the child information, take their picture by touching the “Capture Image” buttons,

and then touch the “Save Child” button. Note that the Child Id is optional.

o Repeat selecting the “Add Child” button until you have added all the children in your class.

o Close the Teacher menu by pressing the red X in the upper right corner of the menu. This will

take you to the class login screen.

Congratulations! You are ready to have children play with Shell Squad Games 3.5.0.0!

• When you exit ECLaunch, new desktop icons in addition to the familiar ECLaunch icon provide

convenient links to additional help and to the Progress Reports where you can see how the children

in your class are progressing through the skill levels.

Appendix: Internet Explorer Update Section

• Internet Explorer 9.0 or greater is required with this upgrade of Shell Squad Games.

• The Upgrade installer will determine whether you internet browser is at the minimal compatible

version. If you did not receive the Congratulations Install Complete screen, then the upgrade

installer is configuring your system and preparing to update Internet Explorer.

• The installer will display the next screen

• Press the Next Button

• The Shell Squad Games installer will exit and configure the system to start the Internet Explorer

update automatically



• Press the Install Button

• This will start a download of the appropriate update install files and provide information about

the update as shown below. Please just wait. This screen will disappear after a minute or two –

so you do not have to worry about making selections. …..the update will automatically begin

with no further actions from you.



• You may see that it will also perform Window updates to make your system compatible with

Internet Explorer 11.

• When all the updates are complete (this could take 10 minutes or more depending on your

internet bandwidth) the system will reboot and ECLaunch will restart automatically.
