Wanaka classes 2018Jane Carroll | 3401

YOU OUGHT TO DO THIS HARDANGER ORT

This Ort is on 28 count linen and uses a variety of motifs stitched with Perle threads. It will be lined with dupion silk. Some preparation before class.

Kit cost $25 approx.

Jane has been a member of the Otago Embroiderers Guild for many years. She has tutored a number of classes and especially enjoys counted thread techniques.

NATIVE BIRDS AND FLOWERS TILES

Using Elizabethan embroidery techniques, the birds and flowers are created to depict our native beauty. Stitched using Rahamahal art silk, silk or stranded threads of 1-2 strands on silk fabric.

Suitable for those who have experience with fine threads and a moderate level of stitching.

Optional Kit approx. $20, instructions only $5.

Gaynor has been teaching embroidery throughout NZ for many years. She particularly enjoys raised embroidery work and is an accomplished embroiderer.

CAROLINA LILY

The background is layered fabrics with couching to edge the mountains. A variety of techniques are used for the lily, e.g.padding, detached petals, wrapped wires and attaching the wrapped elements.

Design size 18cm x 25 cm.

All skill levels welcome.

Kit cost $100 AUS. Will be converted to NZ $, credit card accepted.

Alison has embroidered most of her life and has tried most techniques. Her favourites are Goldwork and stumpwork. Alison is passionate about passing on her knowledge and is working on her fifth book.

Embellish a long zip with hand dyed lace, hand stitching and beading.

The zip will be able to be worn as an adornment, added to a piece of clothing or piece of art

WESSEX SAMPLERCreate a beautiful sampler by blending and harmonising your colours, with simple stitch combinations. A number of the designs are from Wessex Stitchery written by the late Gay Eaton.

Requires a keen eye for counted thread work. Kit cost $30 plus notes.

Colleen has been teaching embroidery and patchwork for the past 11 years, and has taught at Wanaka many times. Colleen likes to design her own projects.

This is your opportunity to take part in our 34th Wanaka Embroidery school. Bring along a project and enjoy the company and expertise of other stitchers in a relaxed environment. Stitch & Chat is held in the same room as the display of work to enable supervision of the display.

RETICELLA CIRCLESNeedle lace technique which originated in Italy. This is a rectangular mat with the same design at each end. Students can elect to just stitch one end or move ends closer to make a square mat.

Some preparation required prior to class.

Kerry’s passion is white work in all its counted forms. Kerry has been tutoring around NZ for the past 12 years.

SUMMER FIELDSCreate a flowery, summery field on a linen, cotton blend using basic embroidery stitches with stranded and pearl threads. Suitable for framing, cushion or bag front.

Desiree has taught embroidery classes for 25 years and likes to design her own projects.

EMBROIDERY FROM FEZ, MOROCCOThis embroidery style is called Aleuj. It is counted thread using a stitch that is almost unknown today. Typically the embroidery is Monochrome and the yellow/green used is characteristic. Make a small bag. Finished size can be decided by each student. Suitable for all embroiderers with experience of different types of counted thread embroidery on linen fabric.

Workshop folio cost NZ $22.

Alison has been a Freelance embroider since 1981. She has taught in the UK, NZ and Australia. Alison’s particular interest is in the embroidery of Central Asia, India, Greece and Turkey. Let her introduce you to the women who originally worked these techniques.

IN THE GARDEN This is an opportunity to explore stumpwork for the first time using basic techniques, embellishing with beads, wrapped rings and other accessories. Create a fun, bright conversation piece.

MINIATURE DRAWN THREAD SAMPLERThis lace-like miniature sampler is worked on 32 count scrim linen fabric with Broder cotton and Au Ver a Soie 100/3 silk thread. PASHTUN EMBROIDERYThis embroidery style is worked by the Pashtun people of Afghanistan. It is metal thread embroidery that often includes mirrors and characteristic turquoise blue beaded trims.
