Bye Bye Birdie is inspired by the frenzy created when Elvis Presley received a draft notice into the Army in 1957. This classic musical also brought frenzy to my life as my first high school acting credit. As part of the teenage ensemble, I sang “Telephone Hour.” I remem-ber the excitement of rehearsing and hoped our set would look like the Hollywood Square boxes. To my complete dismay the tic-tac-toe boxes I imagined were actually 1- and 2-foot platforms across the stage. I was devastated, but the show must go on. The show did go on. When I started my teaching career in North Carolina, Bye Bye Birdie was the first musical I directed. My tech team built the Hollywood Square boxes. I am glad to share it again, complete with updated boxes, this time with the Bishop Chatard community. Our tech crew is known for the tagline, “We’ll take it from here.” Once again, they have. Student build the set, painted, pulled costumes, decorated the lobby, hung and focused lights, and created this program in your hands. They will also run the light and sound cues during the show. They are a wonderful group of talent. That, combined with the talent on stage, should make for an entertaining performance.

“Joining Bishop Chatard theatre my freshmen year was the best choice I've ever made. From the beginning it has taught me what it means to be pas-sionate about something bigger than myself, and has gifted me with lasting friends who I wouldn't trade for the world. Thanks for everything.” - Monica Babbey

Theatre has allowed me to grow a second family, and I have been able to express myself in ways I never thought possible. My new fam-ily has encouraged me to do amazing things with my life and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them.” - Sarah Fillenwarth

“Bishop Chatard Theatre introduced me to my best friends and it has changed my life for the better. I was able to be myself around people and meet new people. I got to experience new things that I was never given the chance to in middle school and I've grown as a person because of theater.” - Anthony “Poptart” Cuevas

“Bishop Chatard Theatre has provided me with a community and has allowed me to develop amazing friendships. The program welcomed me into Cha-tard and gave me many opportunities to express myself.” - Izzy Corns

At first when I was theater, I wasn’t real-ly involved in ceartian things but now this year has been the best experience so far. I feel like I am more involved in this show then I have ever been before. Maye it is because I am a senior. I don’t know but I just like it now a lot.” - Fernanda Bickel

to find some of my passions. Through my four years in Chatard theatre I have found a love for the performing arts. Chatard theatre has given me a great environment to discover the activities that I enjoy so I can pursue them in college. Most importantly, the theatre program helped me to foster lasting friendships." - Steven Good

“Joining Bishop Chatard Theatre has helped me to open up to others more socially. I have learned to not be em-barrassed of anything about me and to follow my dreams, regardless of any fears, doubts, or concerns I have.” - Simon Didat

[Theatre] allowed me to open up more and I really enjoyed doing One Acts for the first time this year. It’s also just a way I could have fun with friends watching the shows and seeing all my friends performance side. -Emily Mees
