Principal’s Reflection

Dear Families,

This Easter I have been reminded of the powerful symbolism of the Paschal candle. The

candle bears the symbol of the cross – an empty cross.

This symbol reminds us of the risen Christ. It is a sym-

bol of life. At Easter we celebrate life and with that

hope. Let us remember this as we go forward and live

each day full of the hope and joy that is celebrated on

Easter Sunday.

What a fantastic Term 1 we have had at Holy Spirit. I

have been delighted to see how our new students in the Community of Learners,

Transition and various other year levels as well as our new staff, have settled into

our school. It is a real credit to the school the way the existing staff, students and

families have welcomed new members to our community.

This week concludes an action packed term that has seen many Liturgical Celebrations, sporting events, assem-

blies, excursions, parent events, community gatherings, guest speakers, buddy class activities and whole school

celebrations. We are in the process of finalising all the events for term 2, which is looking to be equally exciting.

The school community has again been very generous with the contributions to Project Compassion. Thank you

for parent support of the fundraisers. A reminder that all Project compassion boxes at home need to be returned

to school.

Congratulations to our Easter Raffle winners and again and a big thank you to all those who donated to the ham-

pers. The Parents and Friends Committee raised $785 from this event.

Over the holiday break Ms. Shannon, our room 12 teacher, and her fiancé Tom will

marry. We wish then both all the best for the big day and a lifetime of

happiness together.

I wish all our families a safe and happy holiday time together.

God bless you all and keep you safe,

Mr. Simon Duffy

the Easter Story.

For Harmony Day we learnt four different dances with Erin

we come from. We created our own family tree.

will miss Mrs. Gemma.

done to all three students.

HOLY WEEK AT HOLY SPIRIT

Students from Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School participated in

events reflecting the Easter story and the events leading up to Jesus’

death and resurrection. Holy Week began with the whole school com-

munity gathering to listen to the story of Palm Sunday. Students waved

palms and laid clothing as Jesus walked into Jerusalem. Students gath-

ered and watched as Jesus washed the Disciples feet and to hear Jesus’

words at the Last Supper. Father Lenin spoke to us about Jesus’ death,

Good Friday and what is ‘good’ about Good Friday. Year 5/6 students

led the school community in the Stations of the Cross. Together with

the narration, music and singing, the gathered audience was reminded

of the poignancy of the Easter story, the sacrifice of Jesus and the antic-

ipation and hope of the resurrection. After the Easter long weekend

students came back to school with exciting news - Jesus is alive – stu-

dents celebrated the resurrection.

Students from Holy Spirit have gained a deeper understanding of the

Easter story. The Holy Week events were the culmination of the

school's Religious Education Units this term. Rather than

a performance, it demonstrated the reflecting and

acting elements of the Religious Education Cur-

riculum.
