Dear people of God,

Christmas greetings to you in the matchless name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2: 11, 12

Jesus was born in a barn. His bed was a feed trough. Our Lord and Savior, born in one of the most humble settings we can imagine. There was no room for Him in the Inn, but there was in the barn. So that’s where he was born. Nothing has changed. He still enters into humble settings. In our day this means humble, human hearts and minds. He was truly divine in the ordinary.

Christmas reminds us of those people who risked their lives for the sake of God’s plan to be fulfilled in the human history. Christmas reminds us of the silent night when God walked down from the heavens to the earth to give Himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Christmas also reminds us of the long walk that Mary and Joseph took from Nazareth to Bethlehem with lot of courage and confidence. Christmas also talks about the long walk of innocent, obedient shepherds from the mountains to the market place! Leaving behind everything and going to the city of Bethlehem was a major decision for them. When they went to Bethlehem they had to leave their sheep. It was at night, when wolves could come & attack & kill their sheep. It was a long walk of the shepherds to the manger.

Christmas also reminds us of the wise men who travelled great distances to worship the new-born king and to present their precious gift. They left behind families & businesses, & all that was familiar & dear to them. They left it all to follow a star - to travel a strange & possibly dangerous journey - just to pay homage to the new king.

What have you done for the Lord? It is not only during Christmas but in times and opportunities God sends your way. May this be a humble Christmas, where we resist being too busy for Jesus, and instead invite him into our lives as our Saviour and friend. Watch and see what He does in you and through you after that! Receiving Christ is worth more than

anything else in this world. We will never be disappointed by Him. He is that treasure; He’s that pearl of great value. God’s gift to us, this child in the manger, is worth more than anything else we could ever possess. Does your life reflect that truth? Do you know Him? Are you seeking Him?

Praise God for all our activities in the month of November. Praise God for the Sunday School, MYF, Senior Citizens’ Fellowship, WSCS, MMF, Bible Study, Helping the Poor and Needy, Ministry of the Praise and Worship & Choir Team.

Praise God for His faithfulness in providing us with the needed resources and help in the life of the Church. There was a gift of 500 chairs to IMC Annexe Multipurpose Hall by one of our members and the new PA system installed by the church.

Praise God for all our special speakers in the month of November and a time of revival and thanksgiving. Praise God for healing service, special sessions with Anand Pillai and Senior Citizens’ Sunday. We also Thank God for our youth and the Annual Camp held in November.

Pray for Bishop N.L. Karkare and Mrs. Kamal Karkare, our Episcopal leaders for their leadership in the conference. May our faith communities nurture and commission all members to live our particular gifts as a reflection and imitation of Jesus’ life. Keep our pastors and their families in your prayers.

Pray for the Mission and Vision of MCI and for the journey ahead of us. Pray earnestly for God’s continued guidance and blessing upon us. Pray for revival in each one of us, in the Church and in this nation. Keep our country in your everyday prayers as we all give thanks to God for the freedom that we enjoy and the resources that we are provided with.

Pray for God’s protection and guidance upon our family members who are working or studying abroad. Pray for the sick and suffering. Remember Major Gosh and Sahana in your daily prayer as they underwent surgery and recuperating. May God give them a speedy recovery and strengthen them in their faith.

My name is Joicy Vathsala, and I am a staff nurse with ESI Hospital. I would like to share my testimony with you in the hope that it brings some encouragement to you.

On June 2nd 2011, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. With the diagnosis came bouts of depression, sadness and gripping fear.The biggest question that I was struggling with was, “Why me?”

None of it made any sense; I was a perfectly healthy mother and wife going about my job and taking care of my family. I couldn’t believe it! My energy levels dropped and I was feeling unhappier every day.

At this point, when I was having my quiet time, God opened my eyes and spoke to me through His word. In Job 5: 17-18: “Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.”

From that day on I knew that I had nothing to fear or be depressed about – I knew I was His responsibility, and He would take care of me.From then on, I put my faith in Him alone, not in chariots or horses.

I underwent surgery on June 10th 2011. I had to go through 4 rounds of chemotherapy, and 33 rounds of radiation. By the wonderful grace of God, I did not experience any nausea or extreme fatigue during the treatment, and I was even working throughout this period.

My God made me a living testimony to His grace and power. I was able to tell people that the reason I was able to do everything, was because of the His strength in me. He wiped away my tears and turned my mourning into dancing. He turned my ashes into radiating joy.

This was a difficult time in my life; but God spoke to me in a powerful way, and it was transformed into a time of great learning, and drawing closer to God.

I was privileged to have a number of visits from church members (many of whom didn’t even know me); boosting my spirits and helping me recover that much faster. This is something I’ve learned: whether you have 15 minutes or 2 hours to spare, try and visit people who are sick – your presence will be a much larger help that you might realize.

All in all, I want you to know that the same God who healed me, will heal you also – no matter how dark it seems right now. He who wiped my tears will wipe yours also.However hard it seems, trust Him 100%, and He will come through for you.

Bishop N L Karkare was born in his mother’s native, a small village named Borol in Maharashtra and his father hailing from Alandi in Karnataka. His father is a farmer and mother was uneducated yet had a great zeal for her children’s education and struggled through all odds to get Bishop educated.

Bishop had his primary education in the Udgir missionary school named Prakashalaya, and High school education in the Rural High School at Puntamba, Maharashtra. Further, Bishop had his education as a science graduate and studied in the Sir Nowrasji Wadia College, Pune. Bishop was a meritorious student and passed through out with distinction. Bishop completed his Theological studies in Bachelor in Divinity (B.D) from the Senate of Serampore. He served the Bombay Regional Conference as a Minister for a number of years and several years as Pastor, District Superintendent, member of General Conference and also as member of its important Councils, Committees.

Our Bishop is a straight forward person and at the same time he is very understanding, patient and quick to respond. He always does the work of God, things done unseen to others, but not to God. Our episcopal leaders are very loving people with a good true heart. And they are the someone you always want to be around and follow. He’s the man who attends to his sheep selflessly. No matter whether day or night he’s there through the good times and the bad times. He never complains no matter how tired he may be. His flock comes first before his own needs and wants.

Bishop, worked in the capacity of Executive Secretary of the REB and Secretary of Governing Body of educational institutions. He served as the Director of the Medical Work in the Bombay Conference. He was the member of the Executive Board of the MCI and its Managing Committee for two quadrenniums. Bishop has been part of the ecumenical movement in India serving on many committees of the National Council of Churches


in India; and has represented the NCCI on various programmes of Christian Conferences of Asia and also the World Council of Churches on various occasions.

Bishop has been a member in the important fund raising Campaign in Europe for the developmental work in India, and had been on the Team for South - South Dialogue (NGOs) at the side of United Nations in war torn countries like Cambodia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Bishop has spent considerable years of his ministry working with zeal and dedication for the rural poor, dalits, tribals, and people from the backward class. He has a great concern for their basic issues of land, food, shelter and education and for their rights. He is called ‘Messiah’ of such people.

Bishop’s wife Mrs Kamal is a active Social Worker and headed an NGO for many years, working hard for the poor and downtrodden particularly among women and children and for their rights. She was also very active in promoting the women’s work of WSCS in Udgir district of the Bombay Regional Conference.

We are so blessed, privileged, and honoured to be under your leadership. You both are so special to us and to the entire conference. You are our spiritual parents. We appreciate your love toward us. Dear Bishop, you are beyond your calling and believe in the potential that lies unexplored in every individual’s life. We have seen that people have achieved what they believed was formerly impossible until they served under your leadership. Yes, you are a gift which God has blessed us with.

Dear Bishop and Bishop Amma, you are the most sincere individuals we have ever met. Though you look sometimes very serious, it is evident that you are a man with the humour of a dry Englishmen and the knowledge of Paul. We know that you not only tell us about the good news, but you will also show us how to be great warriors for God. You both have an awesome ability to really teach us and guide us to build His kingdom through the ministry of Methodist Church. It goes without any saying that your direction is an absolute blessing to the people that come under your leadership! You are beyond what words can say. Dear Bishop, we assure you of our sincere cooperation and prayers in your ministry and seek your blessings for the entire conference.

This discipleship camp was a call to learn , understand and implement the values in our daily lives ,the call to commit, rest and a call for satisfaction with salvation ,which is possible by HIS Grace and Everlasting Love.

At Denkanikotai (29th Oct 2016 to 1st Nov 2016) FMBP Mission Field in Tamilnadu was a place well….far from home the rocky dry landscape with a few dispersed shrubs gave its own picturesque backdrop, apart from the peaceful serenity the village gave in particular, and their hospitality was well enjoyed, on the contrary the journey from Bangalore to FMBP by train was indeed an experience with the enormous amount of people at the station as the festive season was on , the return was sad as the next day was work. The most important part of the place was that phones were restricted from being used and literally dead due to lack of all network connection except that of (BSNL …..). Each session starting from day one included the need and call to be a disciple for Jesus Christ. The three speakers were Mr. Ashok Immanuel , Mr. Thomas Russo, Pastor Sunny Prasad , who spoke about every aspect that the current youth in this generation are being confronted, as 1 Corinthians 3:9 says “For we are laborers’ together with God ….”Such that we are the carpenter’s tools, and will do no good unless the carpenter’s Son shall use us . Therefore, discipleship was a learning, and a great experience. As Martin Luther once said “that it is not limited to what you can comprehend, it must transcend all comprehension”. The basis of being a disciple in Christ was understood by committing ourselves and in stewardship which by all means is a responsibility to minister to family, friends and also ( handling one’s money - prudently) .

For most of us, at IMC Camps its most loved, due to the equal portion of fun due to the games which were most exciting , along with the unexpected surprises in each game, that taught me the basic necessity to follow the leader with collective team work, that inspired me the most.

The very fact, that simple games even played with water were the most sort after. The games lifted up our moods and helped us to be more enthusiastic to attend the sessions, that were yet ahead. The camp fires in particular, was the most exciting with the sessions of bible quiz, as each team were very competitive and helped me realize the need to know

the value of thescriptures. The talent night which was showcased by each one’s talent in acting enacted through the form of skits had a message in them which was unique.

The early morning devotions and quiet time were enriching as the peaceful environment helped each one of us to understand in depth , through quietness, God’s still sweet voice .The workshops were taken by the seniors members of the youth who taught the importance and necessity of Bible Study and the need to be a successful Christian at work with discipline. Inconclusion, the last session with Pastor Sunny Prasad instilled in us the need of purity and to demarcate the thin line between the worldly pleasures of fame , lust and money. The Call of Jesus, in our lives was another aspect, he touched upon with the example of the “Unsinkable Ship” – The Titanic.

Last, but not the least, I quote “ Discipleship is the ongoing ,lifelong process of discerning & living out , God’s call to be a person God created you to be, as you participate in God’s purpose in creation, in your particular time & place” as stated by Jeff Jones.

I thank God Almighty for such a refreshing time engraved into us through Godly lives and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

A sheep is a very timid animal. We do not anywhere find sheep being used as a national symbol like tigers or eagles or lions. Why not? Sheep are stupid and stubborn. Have you ever seen a trained sheep in a circus? Definitely not, sheep tend to wander off easily. If you bring them back they will wander off again. They do not learn from their mistakes very well. Sheep are also dependent and defenceless. They are awkward not very fast and have no camouflage. They also get scared easily and are confused with little effort. In a panic they have been known to plunge over the edge of a cliff. These traits reveal that sheep definitely need a shepherd. So do we, God refers to us as His sheep. We too are stupid, stubborn and stray away from the Lord.

We are confused, fearful and scared just like the sheep. Isaiah 53:6 says “we all like sheep have gone astray each of us has turned to his own way”. So we need a shepherd. There is no greater delight for a shepherd to see his sheep contended, well fed, safe and flourishing under his care. It is impossible to get a sheep to rest peacefully unless they are well fed and are free from fear. A good shepherd provides safe grazing land for the sheep by going ahead of the sheep and preparing the way. He clears the pasture of poisonous plants tracks down any predators in the area cleans the water ways of twigs that could entangle the sheep. Jesus is our Good shepherd. He provides all our needs. He cares for us. He provides a release from our anxieties. He defends us from our enemies. When we go astray, He corrects us with His rod and draws us near Him with His staff. Let us not in our stupidity run away from Him but stay close to the Great shepherd of our soul. Then surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our life.
