ACTIVITIES Destination Røros offers action-packed adventures and memorable experiences you will never forget. How about dog sledding, horsebackriding, horse-drawn sled or even reindeer sledding? The landscape of the region is good for hiking withplenty of paths and forest trails for walking and cycling, suitable for young and old alike. The region is an eldorado both for serious anglersand for hobby fishermen. The local food capital of Røros along with thewhole surrounding region offer a multitude of taste experiences, shopping opportunities and a vast knowledge of local food history. During the winter months we offer,amongst other, 500 km of prepared ski tracks, sleigh rides, alpine sports,kiting and kick sledding.

ATTRACTIONSRøros Region has a rich cultural heritage. Centuries of mining, tradeand migration of people from all over Europe have contributed to making the region an exciting destination to visit. Remnants fromthe Copper Works can still be seenin the nature and are well preservedin the region’s many museums. Thebeautiful Røros Church towers highabove the rows of wooden houses just as it did in its time of greatness in the 18th Century. Make time tovisit the mines or the Røros Museumfor a true historical adventure! The National Parks of Forollhogna and Femundsmarka create a fine frame around a region with many great attractions.

THE RØROS REGION THE WORLD HERITAGE MINING TOWN OF RØROS AND THE CIRCUMFERENCE*Røros, a mining town founded in 1644, and today a UNESCO listed world heritage site, is a must-see! The town centre with its authentic wooden structures and a cultural heritage that is very much alive, enable you to step back in time, yet enjoying all the facets of modern life. The Forollhogna and Femundsmarka National Parks form the backdrop to the wide range of great outdoor experiences that the region can offer. This is one of few places that still have genuine white winters! While you are here, make sure to taste our award winning local cuisine, made with traditionand purely based on local produce.Røros Copper Works declared itself bankrupt in 1977 after precisely 333 years of mining activity. Today the region relies heavily on cultural tourism, rich and varied agriculture and a diversity of commerce and industry. Røros Mining Town and the Circumference* was added to UNESCOs list of cultural heritage sites in 2010, as an expansion of the World Heritage Site status Røros Mining Town had received in 1980. The mining town consists of several hundred wooden houses, of which some 80 are listed.

SOUTH SAMI CULTURE Røros Region is home to a living Sami culture. The Sami people have been keeping reindeer in the area since long before the advent of Copper Mining. Many of the museums have documented parts of this story through exhibitions and we have activity providers who offer South Sami adventures and experiences.

*The Circumference had a radius of some 45 km with Storwartz mine at its centre, and was an area of privileges granted by the Crown to Røros Copper Works in 1646.
