$345 went to House of Mercy this past weekend. NO Parish Sharing recipient this weekend due to the diocesan collection for Peter’s Pence, support for the Holy Father’s work, will be done.
St. Charles Borromeo has a St. Vincent de Paul Society whose basic ministry is to help the poor obtain necessary furniture and household goods. Potential clients are interviewed to assess their needs and also to connect them to other community agencies. People residing in the eastern Greece and Charlotte area are eligible for assistance. There is collaboration with the SDVP group from St. Frances Cabrini Parish. Next weekend’s parish sharing will be donated to our group, “The Lady of the Angels”.
See Page 6 for a SVDP event coming to the area!

SUNDAY PLATE FOR JUNE 16 & 17, 2018
A Note about the
Sacrament of the Sick
From ancient times there is evidence of the anointing of the sick in our Church’s tradition. We profess that this anointing is one of the seven sacraments of the New Testament. Our Lord’s desire is to accompany and strengthen those who are seriously or chronically ill.
Since Vatican Council II, the Church emphasizes that this anointing of the sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death (Extreme Unction) but for those whose health is compromised by serious illness or advancing age.
The Church states in its Constitution on the Liturgy that “great care and concern should be taken to see that those of the faithful whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or advancing age receive the sacrament.”
With this understanding and appreciation of the anointing of the sick, our parishioners are encouraged to request this sacrament for themselves or immediate family members as soon as serious illness or advancing age begins to impair health. It is not necessary to delay the Sacrament of Anointing until it becomes an extreme situation at the moment of death.
As a parish practice, we anoint regularly our parishioners who are home-bound and in various nursing homes. Both Fr. Pius and Fr. John anoint parishioners upon request before their hospital stays as well as in unplanned emergency situations.
May we pray for our brothers and sisters whose health is impaired. May we offer them the hope of the Sacrament of the Sick, our prayers and our companionship as a faith community.

LIGHTHOUSE CDS
C heck out the Lighthouse Catholic Media kiosk at the back of church! Our offerings include
different CDs, books, booklets, and pamphlets. The purpose of all the materials is to help Catholics learn and live their faith and to pass it on! We have gotten new books (Saints for our Times, Did Jesus Really Rise From the Dead) and new CDs (Who Am I to Judge?, Love, Sacrifice, Trust) for Lent and Easter. Our K of C Council donated a display of Building the Domestic Church booklets with 15 different topics on the family. This display is also at the back of church. Another resource available to our parishioners is FORMED. This is online access to eBooks, talks, and videos about our Catholic faith. The service has been paid for so that individuals at SCB can make use of it for free. Check our SCB website for details.
From Fr. Tom Statt
The recent celebration of my 60th Anniversary of
Ordination was another blessing for me and one I
shall never forget.
I was especially pleased to see so many parishioners
of St. Charles in attendance at the Mass on June 3.
Thank you for coming and participating.
I want to thank all those who sent cards or gifts. So
many of the cards had personal messages that were
so special. I was humbled in reading them!
I also want to give special thanks to Ralph Zecchnio,
Marcia Sheremeta and all the choir members for the
outstanding music they provided. So many of my
relatives and friends from other parishes were in
awe of the beautiful music and singing.
Yes, it was a blessed event — never to be forgotten!
Thank you! Thank you!

COLUMBAN MISSIONS MAGAZINES
From Rick Iekel…
You will notice that there are Columban Missions magazines available among the literature in the back of Church. The Columban Foreign Mission Society is celebrating its 100th year of carrying out Christ’s message to “...teach all nations.” In 1918, a small band of Irish men led by Fr. Edward Galvin began their work in China. Fr. Galvin told his followers “We did not come to convert these people. We came to do God’s will.” It is in that spirit that I offer you the opportunity to learn about the experiences of men and women whom God has led to the missions. Thank you.

Sharing the Gospel Naming a baby is a special job. Grown-ups o!en think long and
hard before picking a name for a baby. When John the Bap"st was
born, his parents knew he was a special gi! from God. Their
friends were surprised at his name - John - and everyone was curi-
ous to know what that special child would grow up to do for God.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for babies. Each one is a special gi! from
God.
Something to Draw
Draw a picture of yourself holding a baby.
Mission for the Week
Choose three names you think would be good for a new baby.
