As a turn-key operation, 3 String Ranch follows a yearly

cycle for Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter, with calves

averaging 640 lbs, proving that the right grazing land is

an important factor to consider.

3 S T R I N G C A T T L E O P E R A T I O N

It is almost time to round up and move the cattle to the Winter Grazing Grounds. Depending on the timing and the weather, 700 head will be moved to the Tooele Army Depot Lease at the end of November and will stay until the middle of May.

Warmer weather starts the Spring Round up and the cattle are hauled to the DWR grazing land starting May 15.

As summer moves in, a cattle drive moves the herd to the SITLA grazing grounds around June 15.

At the end of summer, the cows and calves are moved to the ranch locations in Fruitland and Duchesne, where the cows will be processed and the calves will be shipped. Cows will remain at the ranch locations on pasture until the end of November.

Duchesne County is bordered on the east and west by Uintah

and Wasatch counties respectively, on the north by Summit

County, and on the south by Carbon County. The legislature

created Duchesne County in 1914 from part of Wasatch County.

The state’s highest mountain, King’s Peak at 13,528 feet above sea

level, is located in the county’s Uinta Mountains. Major streams

running through the county include the Strawberry, Duchesne,

Lake Fork, and Yellowstone rivers.

The High Uintas Primitive Area, situated in the northern portion

of the county, is dotted with some of the most beautiful alpine

lakes anywhere in the West. The lakes are free of ice for only a few

months of the year. The county’s economy is based primarily on

the livestock industry, but the area is also rich in oil and natural

gas. As in Uintah County to the east, Duchesne’s oil and natural

gas extraction industries fluctuate according to international oil

and natural gas markets.

The main farm, 3 String Ranch, is approximately 72 miles from Heber City, and 90 miles to I-80.

Salt Lake City is approximately 116 miles, 2 hours, from the main farm.

Strawberry Reservoir is roughly 12 miles from the Fruitland Farm and 40 miles from the 3 Strings Ranch. Getting to surrounding cities is simple with access to Highway 40 that will take you to Heber City and Park City, and Highway 35 takes you the scenic route through Tabiona and Hanna, and into the higher elevations of the Uintas.

Starvation Reservoir is only 5 miles from the main property.

The Duchesne River runs through the south section of the main property. This section of the river and property has a well established wild turkey population.

Duchesne County is considered a destination for enthusiasts of all kinds: fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, backbacking and other outdoor activities. The Tabby Mountain and the surrounding area is well-known as a home to Elk, Deer, Wild Turkey, Duck, Geese, and Brown Trout. Tabby Mountain is also famous for its large population of deer and Elk. Duchesne River is considered to be one of the top three rivers in the state for fishing.
