INT. SERENITY HIGH, HALLWAY - DAY

HAYLEY and RILEY sit together outside the doors for the Auditorium, playing on their phones. Hayley’s phone dings and she looks up annoyed.

HAYLEYReally? A snapchat? I’m sitting right next to you.

RILEYI thought I should remind you what my middle finger looks like.

Hayley leans over towards the door, pressing her ear against it. She then pulls back in a groan.

HAYLEYOkay, this seriously sucks. I can’t hear a thing.

RILEYI’m surprised no one has come out with their head on fire yet.

HAYLEYWell, they’re only an hour in.

RILEYWhich I still don’t get. It’s a Tuesday. And on Tuesdays we just do improv.

All of a sudden there is a loud crash off screen.

RILEY (CONT’D)Fifty bucks that was Katerina getting her head chopped off.

Hayley just rolls her eyes and looks up through the window.

RILEY (CONT’D)(looking at Hayley)

Well?

HAYLEYMisty just had a set fall on her. I think she’s okay.

Hayley sits back down.

RILEYI hate this. I just want to go in there and set them on fire.

HAYLEYYou know Maureen’s rules, no fire on the stage.

RILEYBut fire is so cool.

The doors then open and out walks DANNY and WILL, both of them covered in really bad make up.

Riley bursts into laughter.

RILEY (CONT’D)(laughing)

What the hell happened to you two?!

WILL(out of breath)

Izzy! She’s out of control and has the make up bag.

DANNYPlease save us.

HAYLEYSorry. We’re not in Drama anymore, girls.

IZZY (O.S.)Oh boys! I forgot how to show you apply make up to your crack!

Danny and Will turn to Hayley and Riley in terror. They two boys run away as Izzy comes running out.

IZZY (CONT’D)Did you see Danny and Will? I need to apply more make up to the crack of their forehead.

RILEYSay crack again.

Izzy nods and chases after them.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, CLASSROOM - DAY

ALLEN and FIONA sit closer together. Fiona keeps smiling over at him as they continue to talk. JENNIFER sits over to the side, smiling as she watches.

JENNIFER TALKING HEAD

JENNIFERI’ve had one boyfriend. His name was Caleb. We met on Twitter and we had a really fun time. But every single time I wanted to Skype, his camera was broken.

BACK TO SCENE

ALLEN(to Fiona)

Alright, so the difference between American Football and British Football is that in England, they do it right. Here in America, they do it all wrong.

FIONABut aren’t you American?

ALLENYes, but on my Mother’s side I’m English, residing from the proud village of Windlebardenberg.

FIONAWe don’t have small communities like that where I come from.

ALLENBut doesn’t Sydney have a bunch of districts and stuff like that.

Fiona freezes for a moment, looking down at her hands and around the room.

FOCUS IN on a piece of art, and a ham sandwich.

Fiona then turns back to Allen.

FIONAYeah, I live near the Ham Art District. It’s a very small community you can’t find it on Google.

ALLENUh, um. Okay.

(beat)Hey so I was wondering --

The bell then rings and everyone starts to duck out. Allen sighs and looks down at his things before standing up with Fiona.

ALLEN (CONT’D)Do you, maybe wanna catch lunch later? Maybe you can tell me the difference between New Zealand and Australia.

Fiona nods.

ALLEN (CONT’D)It’s a date!

(beat)I mean not really a date. But a lunch date, you know?

Fiona quickly and watches as Allen walks out. Jennifer then approaches her.

JENNIFEROkay, the flirt meter on my iPhone app was going crazy. Y’all are so meant to be.

FIONAWe’re not meant to be. We’re not Liam and Miley.

JENNIFEROh come on, you have more chemistry than Chloe and Clark on Smallville. Hashtag, Superman Rocks.

FIONALook, I don’t think I should be dating someone right now.

JENNIFERIf the next words out of your mouth are “I’m not good enough for him”, I will slap you all the way to Richmond.

(beat)We just have to find the confidence inside you. And I think I know the perfect way to do it.

She then pulls Fiona out of the room, dragging her behind her.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, GIRLS BATHROOM - DAY

KATERINA exits from a stall and walks over to IZZY and NELLIE. Katerina begins to adjust her make up.

NELLIERemind me why we’re doing this whole Drama Club thing? Just a few months ago we tried to protest them.

KATERINAI’m doing this to prove to everyone that I’m still in. Ever since the Fall Festival, I’ve been on the down low more than John Travolta on Grindr.

(beat)The party didn’t help much either. All it did was get me a boyfriend, who thinks that we can’t make long distances work.

IZZYBut you know in the student handbook it says that Maureen can bring Hayley and Riley back. Hasn’t she questioned why they aren’t in Drama meetings?

KATERINADuring my time as student leader, I explained that Hayley and Riley quit because of me joining. Truly rude.

(beat)But we’re going to ensure that Maureen thinks that this Drama Club is better without them. I hope, you never know with her.

One minute she’s talking about Hamlet and then about how she wants an omelette.

NELLIEWe can’t keep risking this. We have to quit while we’re ahead or, you know who will come down on us.

KATERINALike I’m afraid of them. I say bring it. They’re on their way out anyways.

Izzy then grabs her phone and starts taking selfies.

IZZYDo you guys think that if we take selfies that NASA can see them?

NELLIENASA is the space program.

IZZYNo, that’s Astro-nuts, dummy.

Katerina groans and Nellie just rolls her eyes.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, CAFETERIA - DAY

Hayley sits at a table alone, picking at her lunch. Will’s hands then cover her eyes.

WILLGuess who?

HAYLEYLet me guess... A boyfriend who brought me something unhealthy.

WILLWow. You automatically assume I’m bringing you something unhealthy?

Will sits down and reaches into his bag.

HAYLEYI mean, it would help me like you more.

KATERINA (CONT'D)

He pulls out a cookie and hands it to her.

WILL (CONT’D)-- I come well prepared.

HAYLEY(taking the cookie)

God, you’re seriously an amazing boyfriend.

WILLSo, have you and Riley cooked up some crazy scheme to get Katerina to quit?

HAYLEYI did consider getting killer ducks, but that’s so last semester. And the clown won’t work because apparently she’s been doing therapy for that.

WILLYou could cut off all her hair?

HAYLEYShe can rock any hair style. It sucks. It’s like she’s literal perfection.

(beat)Did I just say that out loud?

WILLLook, we gotta get you and Riley back into the club. As peaceful as it’s been without Riley in it...

(beat)It’s like we lost our family.

HAYLEYWe are a family. A crazy Drama Club family. But a family none the less.

(beat)But we need to find a way to get Katerina in trouble. If Ms. Johnson catches her doing something against student policy, she can kick her out of Drama Club, and because her Daddy already donated all the money, we can keep it.

WILLWait... How come you and Riley aren’t doing anything to get in her trouble?

HAYLEYWe have!

FLASH CUT:

INT. SERENITY HIGH, AUDITORIUM - DAY (FLASHBACK)

Katerina stands yelling at Misty and Christy.

KATERINAHow many times do I have to tell you! Being perky won’t get you anywhere! You’re just annoying! Hashtag Weirdos.

Misty begins to sob and Katerina keeps yelling at her.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Hayley and Riley wait outside the door. ROSE walks down the hall, shuffling through papers. Hayley nudges Riley and then walks over to Rose.

HAYLEYMs. Johnson! Such a pleasure to see you!

ROSEMs. Parker. Is there something I can help you with? I’m on my way to a meeting with the Cortez family about their son and his reasoning for bringing his hamster in his underwear.

HAYLEYWell, it’s just that. I think Katerina is bullying poor Misty. You know the, uh... small one.

ROSEAre they in rehearsals right now?

HAYLEYBy all means. Go and take a look.

Rose passes Hayley and opens the door to the auditorium. She then shakes her head and looks at Hayley.

ROSEThat is not bullying Ms. Parker. Might I suggest you get glasses. Good day.

Rose struts down the hall. Hayley and Riley look at each other in confusion and look into the room.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, AUDITORIUM - CONTINUOUS

Katerina is serving everyone freshly baked cookies. Hugging Misty as she does, wiping her eyes with a tissue. Riley’s jaw drops.

RILEYHow the f--!

JUMP CUT TO:


The Barbie Dolls stand in front of a locker, filing their nails. Hayley and Riley come running around the corner with Rose.

HAYLEYSee! They’re evil!

RILEYYeah, they’re --

(realizes)Filing their nails.

ROSELadies, might I suggest you stop these crazy accusations against Katerina, Nellie and Izzy. Clearly they are not doing anything wrong.

(beat)Now, all of you please go to class. The Janitor and I have to round up some ducks.

Rose then turns around and heads back down the hall. Katerina smirks and steps to the side. Nellie then opens the locker and out falls Danny.

He falls to the floor, make up all over his face. Riley can’t help but laugh. Hayley elbows her gently.

RILEYWhat?! It’s kinda funny to see your boyfriend all dolled up and ready for a tea party.

FLASH CUT:

INT. SERENITY HIGH, CAFETERIA - DAY

Back to Hayley and Will.

WILL And Ms. Johnson did nothing?

HAYLEYYup! Nothing! It’s like she see’s Katerina as this ideal student. Katerina is immune to everything we throw at her.

WILLWe could throw a piano at her.

HAYLEYI already shot that idea down. Riley and I had a list.

WILLBut it’s just been you and Riley doing this.

HAYLEYYeah, so?

Hayley bites into her cookie and groans softly.

HAYLEY (CONT’D)I think I want to marry this cookie!

WILLWhat if we just get the entire Drama Club together. And we, you know? Kick the Barbie Dolls out once and for all.

Hayley thinks about it for a moment and then looks at Will.

HAYLEYYou’re such a genius!

She then hugs him and he smiles.

Maureen walks down the hall with CHARLIE, both of them swinging their hands together. Maureen looking more exhausted than usual.

CHARLIEI’m sure you’ll figure it out.

MAUREENI miss one meeting and two of my best students quit!

(beat)I don’t think I’ll ever figure this Drama Club out. It’s just one problem after another.

CHARLIEYour kids will figure it out. Just let them solve this one.

MAUREENThat’s the problem. I can’t let them do it alone. Last time I did that, Misty lost her underwear and Danny ended up looking like a pretty little princess!

CHARLIEJust do what you have to do. And I’ll be here to help you in any way.

MAUREENWill you make me that Vegan dinner from that cookbook you bought me? Also a nice cocktail?

CHARLIELike I said. Anything.

He kisses her cheek and then heads off to class. Maureen smiles and turns around, walking right into Katerina.

KATERINAMs. Lynwood! I was hoping to run into you!

MAUREENJust the girl I didn’t want to see. And please, call me Maureen.

KATERINAMaureen, you don’t have to be so weirded out around me. Hayley and Riley quit on their own terms.

MAUREENI know. I just miss them is all.

(beat)Now, I want to go over Riley’s play. We can’t do it.

MAUREENWait, what? That play has been approved. Yeah sure, the biggest note they have given us is less sexual undertones. But I think it was in good taste. But you know people these days. They see teenagers having sex and it’s all pitchforks and bible verses.

KATERINAHigh school is no place for sex. But I want to replace it with my own play.

Katerina reaches into her bag and pulls out a script.

So, she goes to Harvard Law and becomes a Lawyer to prove that she is better then him.

MAUREENThat’s the plot to Legally Blonde.

KATERINAMy Daddy bought the rights. A lot of people say I look like Reese Witherspoon.

Maureen sighs and hands the script back to Katerina.

MAUREENI’m sorry kiddo. But we’re only weeks away from Drama Festival. We can’t change it now. But I will be holding re-audtioins for the lead.

KATERINAFine. I’ll audition. But just so you know? My Daddy will gladly give more money to pay for that new sound system you wanted.

MAUREENThe Boxo-Woxo 3000?!

Katerina nods and flips her hair walking off. Maureen groans and then shakes her head.

She then whines a little bit.

She then whines and runs down the hall.

Jennifer stands behind Fiona as she talks.

Reveal the person she’s talking too, to be CAL. He sits there unimpressed.

CALYou’re going to have to do a lot better than that.

FIONAI’m not exactly well versed in the ways of asking someone out.

JENNIFERLook, this is just practice. Like you would ask Cal out.

CALShould I be offended by that?

JENNIFERProbably.

(beat)But Fiona, you gotta yell what you want.

CALOkay, I don’t think --

Fiona then leans back to Cal.

FIONA-- I WANT TO GO OUT WITH YOU!

Cal falls back in his seat in fear. Jennifer then sighs and looks at him.

JENNIFERSuch a weak one. Let’s go over it again.

Cal lets out a loud sigh.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, STUDENT LOUNGE - DAY

Hayley and Riley stand in front of the Drama Club minus Cal, Fiona and Jennifer. Everyone looks annoyed and a bit nervous.

HAYLEYSo, I bet you’re all wondering why we’ve brought you here.

FIONA (CONT'D)

RILEYWe need your help to get Katerina kicked out of the Drama Club once and for all.

CHRISTY And how are we supposed to that?

LIVMight I suggest we use the Drama Eye Candy?

Riley rolls her eyes and turns back to the kids.

RILEYWe just need to do something that will get Katerina in trouble! Like throwing a water balloon, or wearing white after labor day.

HAYLEYWe’re hoping it doesn’t come to that cause my dance skills are like a Dad at a Jamboree.

(beat)The Prank War lasted four weeks. Since then, pranks of all sorts are punishable by detention or expulsion.

RILEYShe launched it, and drenched the entire staff. She was expelled and was considered an “the Queen of Pranks”. But since then, no one has been able to do it.

Connie then looks at the other kids.

CONNIEMisty, Christy? I’m going to need you guys to find the biggest balloon you can find.

Allen stands at his locker, scrolling through his phone. Fiona peeks around the corner with Jennifer behind her.

JENNIFEROkay, you got this. Just remember what we practiced.

FIONAI don’t got this. I thought I did but now I’m thinking about getting a taco with extra taco on top.

JENNIFERThat’s a good starting point. Boys love Tacos!

FIONATacos are never a good starting point.

Allen then starts towards them. Fiona panics. Jennifer then pushes Fiona. Fiona then crashes into Allen, both of them falling onto the floor. Allen landing on top of her.

ALLENOh crap! Are you okay?

FIONAI think so. At least I didn’t break my nose or talent!

ALLENYeah, I know that feeling.

(beat)I get hit with a lot of balls.

Fiona then laughs and Allen shakes his head. The two then stand up, dusting themselves off.

ALLEN (CONT’D)I really didn’t mean it in that way. I mean, I do handle balls... soccer balls.

FIONAIt’s alright. I’m good at handling balls, too. Like Cheese Balls.

Jennifer groans, putting her hand on her face in disappointment.

ALLENMaybe we could do this again sometime? Crash into each other?

FIONA(quickly)

Would you wanna go out? Maybe? I don’t know, it the heat on too high in here.

Allen’s eyes widen in shock. He then smiles at her.

ALLENUm. Yeah sure, why not? I was wondering when you were gonna ask me?

Fiona nods and Allen walks off. But he turns and walks right into a locker.

FIONAOh my gosh! Are you okay?!

He holds onto his nose as he stumbles down the hall. Fiona laughs and looks to Jennifer, who stands there recording the whole thing.

JENNIFERYou’re going to thank me at your wedding.

Jennifer smiles and puts her phone away. She then turns to Fiona.

JENNIFER (CONT’D)Now, I have to ask. There isn’t a Ham Art District in Sydney.

So, there is something you’re not telling me.

Fiona stands there, caught. She then looks at the other and nods.

FIONAFine, I’ll tell you everything. But you have to swear by the a blood oath.

JENNIFERDone and Done.

Fiona then pulls Jennifer away, practically dragging her off.

INT. SERENITY HIGH, AUDITORIUM - DAY

The Drama Kids are sitting in their respected seats. Katerina stands on the stage, pacing professionally around it as she addresses the other kids.

KATERINAHello everyone, and thank you for joining us.

LIVYou really didn’t give us much of a choice.

KATERINAShut up, Bivvy.

LIV(offended)

It’s Liv.

KATERINAAnywho! We are here to bring to a vote weather or not we do Riley’s play or my new play.

The doors then slam open, in walking Maureen, Riley and Hayley.

RILEYLike hell bitch! We’re voting you, off the island!

NELLIEI’m sorry! But you have been banned from our Drama Club!

JENNIFER (CONT’D)

HAYLEYYeah but it’s not your Drama Club. It’s also not ours but we’re taking it back!

Izzy sits to the side, filing her nails. Everyone watches her intently. She then looks up.

IZZYOh is it my line? I didn’t know we were rehearsing.

(gets up; looking)I gotta find my script!

MAUREENKaterina, this has gone too far! I’m sorry but Hayley and Riley told me what you did.

KATERINA-- Maureen. I’m sure what they told you was lies and slander! But I am nice enough to allow a re-audtion for them. And we will use that piece of trash that Riley wrote.

Riley grits her teeth in a growl, but Maureen holds her back.

MAUREEN(cheer-y)

Or we could do that. (beat)

Where is Connie?

INT. SERENITY HIGH, AUDITORIUM CAT WALK - CONTINUOUS

Connie positions herself above the stage, and wrapped up in a blanket is the WATER BALLOON.

CONNIE(to herself)

I cannot believe that I am finally doing this.


Hayley turns and looks at Riley.

HAYLEY(whispering)

We can’t let her get to us. (MORE)

This is going to be easy, I know this play inside and out.

KATERINA(instantly)

And I’ll be auditioning for the role of Lyla.

HAYLEY(yelling)

Oh hell to the no!

KATERINAHayley! Such language.

RILEY(groaning)

Maureen you can’t be serious!

MAUREENGuys! You technically have to audition to get parts. And the role of Lyla is open now.

HAYLEYYou’re taking her side in all of this?

MAUREENHayley, I created this club so everyone would have an equal chance.

HAYLEYScrew equal chance! That’s my role!

MAUREENThis is better than a vote.

(whispering)Hayley, both you and I know it’ll come down to you anyway.

Hayley nods and just walks off.

Riley just scowls at Katerina. Katerina does a wave and smirks at her.

Hayley walks over to Will. Resting her head on his shoulder

HAYLEYYou can’t be on Katerina’s side on this.

WILLI’m not. You’re practically Lyla. Maureen will see that.

HAYLEYIt kinda seems like the entire club is just succumbing to Katerina’s will.

WILLLook. You’re freaking out over nothing. You know Lyla, inside out. And you know Hayley. You can do this.

HAYLEYYou’ve been hanging around Danny too much. Those are his speeches.

(beat)Now, I’ll try to get Katerina angry at me in some way, and you need to make sure Danny gets Ms. Johnson in here.

Will kisses her forehead and goes up on stage with her.

Maureen sits at the table in the seats. She flips through the script.

MAUREENKaterina? If you need to hold onto your script it would be okay.

KATERINAI’m already off script.

MAUREENWe call it off book.

IZZYYeah but it isn’t a book. It’s a script.

Katerina stands in front of Will.

Hayley stands off to the side of the stage and wrinkles her nose in disgust.

Rose walks down, flipping through more papers. Danny stands outside the auditorium. He then stands in front of her.

DANNYMs. Johnson! Might I say, you look beautiful today!

ROSEMr. Ford, if I still had feelings I would blush. But I suggest that you get back to your rehearsals before Ms. Lynwood looks for you to do something, drama.

DANNYWell, she actually wants you to see how production is going! Why don’t you come sit in the back, in the dark and we can watch?

Rose sighs and looks at her watch.

ROSEI don’t have a lot of time, but for my New Years Resolution, I am trying to see if the arts are really worth the budget.

Danny leads the way, opening the door for Rose.
