Greetings from the Asian International Arbitration Centre (“AIAC”). As we step into our 40th

year of existence in 2018, we are rebranding KLRCA into the AIAC. We assure you that the AIAC will continue to look into the future and shape the global system of conflict resolution.

It is an immense pleasure to continue one of our most successful initiatives and welcome you to the 2nd AIAC/ICC Pre-Moot (“Pre-Moot”) for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (“Vis Moot”) jointly organized by AIAC and the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce. Apart from the Pre-Moot, AIAC and its Young Practitioners Group are organizing The First Asian Conference for Students and Young Practitioners a day before the Pre-Moot.

The goal of the Vis Moot is to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration and to train young leaders in methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). AIAC is honored to be associated with such a prestigious and important event. As the ADR regime continues to grow on global level, we at AIAC, firmly believe that this Pre-Moot will prepare all the teams well for Vis Moot and will be instrumental in every aspect. It will not only enlighten the students but also create platform for top ADR practitioners to come together and further the development of arbitration in their home jurisdictions, as well as internationally.

Building up on the success achieved in our previous edition of Pre-Moot in 2017, our heads are higher than ever. In its previous edition, our Pre-Moot was graced by 36 teams from different parts of the world. This year we are hosting more than 72 teams from over 20 different nations and top international legal and arbitration practitioners.

This accomplishment would not be possible without ICC being our long-standing partner, always encouraging supporting organisations, generous sponsors and volunteers. We are very grateful and will do our best to ensure the quality of the competition and exceed expectations. On that note, we at AIAC are pleased to welcome all the participants, coaches and arbitrators at one of the largest ADR hubs in the world, situated at the state-of-the-art facilities of historic Bangunan Sulaiman. The Pre-Moot is adopting the Rules of the 25th Willem C. Arbitration Moot (which can be found at https://vismoot.pace.edu/media/site/25th-vis-moot/the-rules/rules.pdf) With the exception and addition, including but not limited to, as follow:

1. Registration of multiple teams from the same university is allowed;

2. Deadline of the registration falls on 31st January 2018, 23:59 (MYT);

3. There is no registration fee;

4. Participation in either the Vis Moot Vienna or Vis Moot Hong Kong is not a requisite to compete in the Pre-Moot;

5. Participants of the Pre-Moot may submit either Outlines or Memoranda. Participants who submitted Outlines or Memoranda will then be eligible to receive the award for the Best Outline or Best Memoranda. Participants who opt to not submit anything may still compete in the Oral Pleading but will not eligible to receive the said award.

6. The Outline shall be typed in 8 ½ x 11 inch or A4 page, 12 sized fonts and 1 ½ Line space, with all margin must be at least one inch or 2.5cm. Maximum of 12 pages (including the Arguments, Cover, Table of Authorities, etc)

7. Participants will not be given the Memoranda and/or Outlines of the team that they will be against with. There are no exchange of Memoranda and/or Outlines in the Pre-Moot;

8. Deadline of the submission for both Memoranda and the Outlines falls on 31st January 2018, 23:59 (MYT);

9. Recipient of the Best Speaker award will only be determined from the highest-ranking score. There is no requirement to argue for both the Claimant and the Respondent;

10. Depending on the circumstances, in one hearing, three or less than three, but at least one arbitrator, may be expected to seat. Three-seat arbitrators are anticipated but one-seat arbitrator is allowed; and

11. Participants are required to disclose their team pairing as soon as it received their pairing schedule for the Vis Moot in Vienna and/or Hong Kong in order to avoid conflict of interest for the team pairing for the Pre-Moot. Participants are also required to raise conflict as soon as possible should there is any.

One of the hotel that the Organizing Committee provides for the participants who selected Financial Assistance Option A is Prescott Hotel, located in Brickfields which is only 400 meters walking distance from AIAC.
