Savremeni svet funkcioniše preko moćnih medijskih sistema koje je omogućila sve savršenija savremena tehnologija. Okruženje je zasuto šumom vizuelnih informacija sa banera, bilborda, plazma i mobilnih ekrana. Osvojiti mesto kreatora u tim mega potrošačkim sistemima je izazov, cilj i san svakog mladog dizajnera. U takvim okolnostima oštre konkurencije potrebni su talenat, imaginacija, kreativnost a pre svega ideja i dobra škola koja će pripremiti mladog umetnika za tu borbu. I upravo tu na Akademiji umetnosti u Novom Sadu u odbranu te kreativne osećajnosti i talenta u razvoju začela se ideja među profesorima grafi čkih komunikacija i dizajna da okupe mlade umetnike iz celog sveta koji bi u takmičarskom duhu, na zajedničkom zadatku pokazali svoju kreativnost i ostvarenja kroz plakat, čija moć nije u veličini formata nego u količini duha i ličnog stava ugrađenog u njegovo kreiranje. Suština ovakve manifestacije je skrivena u težnji da se odbrani osećajnost i individualnost koja je potisnuta fascinantnim mogućnostima savremene tehnologije iza koje stoje prosečne ideje.Angažovanost i lepota raznovrsnih pogleda na svet u kome živimo, bitna je okosnica ovog Bijenala na kome će studenti iz celog sveta saopštiti svoje poruke a u isto vreme to je trenutak potvrde njihovog talenta koja će im dati snagu za dalju borbu. Poželimo im sreću u njihovom misionarskom zadatku. Pozdravljamo ovu ideju koja je dobrodošla svim učesnicima i profesorima a u isto vreme Akademija umetnosti i grad Novi Sad postaju mesto prepoznatljivo na karti sveta. Modern world functions through powerful media systems that are provided by the increasingly perfected new technology. The surroundings are densely forested with visual information on banners, billboards, plasma and portable screens. To conquer the place of the creator in these mega consumerist systems is a real challenge, a goal and a dream of every young designer. Such condition of intense competition calls for talent, imagination and creativity, and above all an idea and a good education that is going to prepare the young artist for the battle. It is at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, in defense of this creative sensibility and developing talent, that an idea was conceived among the professors of graphic communications and design to gather young artists from all over the world who would in competitive spirit, on the same assignment, show their creativity and achievements through the medium of poster, whose power is not in its size but in the quantity of spirit and personal attitude imbedded in its creation. The essence of such an event lies in an aspiration to defend sensibility and individuality that is shoved back by the fascinating potentials of new technology behind which mediocre ideas and creativity are hidden. The engagement and beauty of diverse views on the world we live in, is the backbone of this Biennial where the students from all over the world will make known their messages and at the same time it is the moment for their talent confi rmation that will give them strength for future combat. Let us wish them good luck with their missionary task. We salute the idea which is welcome to all the participants and professors and, which at the same time places the Academy of Arts and the city of Novi Sad on the world map.

Da plakat nije tako važan i upečatljiv model komunicaranja u svim oblastima delovanja, a posebno da ne nosi u sebi snagu i vitalnost mladosti; da ne prodire u naše vidno polje i svesno i podsvesno; da ne prenosi najdirektnijim, pa i agresivnim putem poruke i informacije upućene svakom pojedincu, ciljno, ali i nehotično; da ne računa na ogroman broj korisnika – ne bi se za površine koje su mu namenjene vodile tako ogorčene, prave bitke; ne bi se plakati konstantno prelepljivali, odlepljivali, cepali, a bilbordi skupo plaćali ... Ali, ma koliko računali na efemernost jedne poruke i kratkotrajnost njenog odjeka, plakati nose belege relikvija našeg vremena: čuvaju se u zbirkama, izlažu po galerijama i muzejima, postaju deo našeg intimnog ambijenta, uramljeni, kao najvrednija likovna dela. Svojim vizuelnim kvalitetima, pre svega atraktivnošću koja prethodi prepoznatim ili novim porukama, ravnotežom pronađenom između slike i reči, senzibilnim opipavanjem duha vremena kojem se obraća, plakat se izborio za ravnopravno mesto među drugim vizuelnim disciplinama, u prostoru rezervisanom za Umetnost. I više od toga, danas se mnogi umetnici za svoj diskurs obraćaju upravo plakatu da bi on preneo njihove ideje i stavove, a ne ekonomske reklame ili političke poruke. Tako plakati prkose pojmovima od kojih su satkani: suprotstavljaju se trošnosti materijala, prolaznosti svoga značenja i efemernosti jednokratne upotrebe i tako njihova aktuelnost, angažovanost, njihova okrenutost životu i vitalnim funkcijama čoveka današnjice ulazi u trajnost koju nazivamo istorijom. I zato je divna ideja da se organizuje susret mladih, budućih umetnika koji će svojim studentskim radovima u formi plakata predstavljati projekciju sutrašnjice. Nadajmo se da će ta projekcija biti mudra i optimistična, i da će nam svima pomoći da preživimo sadašnjost.

If the poster were not such an important and conspicuous model of communication in all spheres of human activity, and especially if it weren’t for its youthful strength and vitality; if it did not penetrate into our fi eld of vision both consciously and subconsciously; if it did not carry over, in the most direct, even aggressive way, messages and information aimed at each individual, intentionally, but also inadvertently; if it did not count on the immense number of users – then fi erce battles, for they can be called battles indeed, for the surface intended for it would not be waged; posters would not be constantly glued over, unglued, and torn off nor would billboards be paid so dearly… Yet, no matter how much we rely on the ephemerality of a single message and short duration of its echo, posters bear marks of the relics of our time: they are kept in collections, exhibited in galleries and museums, they become part of our personal ambience, framed, as the most precious works of art. With its visual quality, primarily with its attractiveness that precedes the recognized or new messages, with the balance found between the picture and the words, with perceptible examination of the spirit of the time it addresses, the poster has won an equal place among other visual disciplines, in the space reserved for Art. Even more, a lot of artists today turn to the poster to carry their discourse, to convey their ideas and attitudes, instead of mere commercial or political messages. That way, posters defy the very notions they are woven of: they oppose the disintegration of the fabric, the temporality of their meaning and ephemerality of their one-time usability and, thus, their topicality and engagement, their devotedness to life and vital roles of the contemporary man enter the permanence that we call history.There lies the beauty of the idea to organize the encounter of young artists to be who are going to present the projection of the future with their student works in the form of a poster. Let us hope that this projection is to be a wise and optimistic one, and that it will help us all to survive the present.
